  • 4LetterheadDescription: Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo.

    Date: February 28, 2015

    Course & Instructor:COMM 130Joel Judkins

    Program: Adobe InDesign

Objectives:Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.Use the basic tools of InDesign.

Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create the Logo. I made the shape of the laces on the baseball with the pen tool, then I used the multiplier and rotator tool to create the pattern. I also added an artistic effect to the baseball and made it red. I ex-ported my Adobe Illustrator file into a new Adobe InDesign file to create the letterhead stationery. I created a new document in order to make my double-sid-ed business cards. I made 2 boxes that were 2.53 inches and again imported my logo from Illustrator. I used overlapping shapes and text to create the design and layout.

Description: A personally taken photograph that has been edited and formatted in Photoshop.

    Date: February 7, 2015

    Course & Instructor:COMM 130Joel Judkins

    Program: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Learn basic photography skills.Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.Size and crop the image.Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image.Desaturate the selected portion of the image.Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process:I chose a monochromatic color scheme that I found in the Visual FOCUS book. While taking the picture, I focused on using indoor lighting in order to get a sharp image. I then uploaded the picture into photoshop where I edited the levels, vibrance/saturation, color balance, and sharpness. Then, I designed an 8.511 landscape layout that contains the photo, text, and design elements. I used some shadow features and textures to add some depth to my project. I also used the text to add some extra alignment to the design so it all works together really well.

Process:I started with 4 main sketches that I thought would be good options for the layout of the flier. Then, I created my first sketch in Adobe InDesign, while relying on the 5 steps of the FOCUS system. Formulate, Organize, Contrast, Unity, and Simplify. I wanted the word Leadership to stand out, so I added a black background and typed the word in all caps. To obtain the contrast I wanted, I used black and gray boxes at the bottom which make the logo stand out. I also used the white space to unify my message.
