Energy efficiency ratingaccording to EN 50304These appliances are rated energy effi-ciency class C in accordance with EN50304. Tests were carried out using the"Fan" oven function with the catalyserswitched off.

AccessoriesMost of the following accessories aresupplied with this oven.

These and other accessories are alsoavailable to order from your Dealer orthe Miele Spare Parts Department. See"Extra Accessories" further on in thisbooklet for more details.

Baking tray, grill pan and rack

The baking tray, grill pan and rack arefitted with non-tip safety notches whichprevent them being pulled right outwhen they only need to be partiallypulled out.

When pushing the tray, pan and rackback in, always ensure that thesafety notches are at the rear of theoven. (See illustration)

The tray, pan and rack can then only betaken out of the oven by raising themupwards and then pulling out.

Roasting filter

The roasting filter must be fitted in frontof the fan when cooking anything fattyor where food is likely to splatter, e.g.when open roasting and grilling meat.

The droplets of fat caught up in the cir-culating air are deposited on the roast-ing filter. This helps to keep the ovenand the area behind the interior backpanel cleaner.

Do not use the roasting filter whenbaking. This would increase thetimes needed for baking and giveuneven browning results.

Roast probe

The roast probe enables the roastingprocess to be monitored simply and re-liably. See "Roasting with the roastprobe" for details.

Anti-splash tray

The anti-splash tray should be placedinside the deep sided grill pan whengrilling or roasting.

The juices from the food being cookedcollect under the anti-splash tray. Thisprevents them from spitting and makingthe oven dirty. The juices can then beused for making gravy and sauces.

Handle

To take the racks, baking trays or thegrill pan out of the oven, or to put theminto it. The two prongs at the top go in-side the rack, tray or pan and theU-shaped supports underneath.

Catalyser

The catalyser is built in to the oven'scooling system.The catalyser filters fatty vapours andreduces food smells.

In pyrolytic cleaning mode the catalyserregulates the duration of the cleaningprocess depending on how dirty theoven is.

Hob use and installationFor "E" models (ovens with integratedhob controls) a separate set of instruc-tions is supplied with the hob whichcovers its use and installation.

Caring for the environmentDisposal of the packing material

The transport and protective packinghas been selected from materialswhich are environmentally friendly fordisposal and can normally be recycled.

Ensure that any plastic wrappings,bags etc. are disposed of safely andkept out of the reach of babies andyoung children. Danger of suffocation!

Rather than just throwing these ma-terials away, please ensure they are of-fered for recycling.

Disposal of your old appliance

Old appliances contain materials whichcan be reclaimed or recycled. Pleasecontact your dealer, your local wastecollection centre or scrap merchantabout potential recycling schemes, before disposing of the appliance.

Ensure that the appliance presents nodanger to children while being storedfor disposal. See the appropriate ad-vice in the "Warning and Safety instruc-tions".

Warning and Safety instructionsThis appliance complies with allrelevant legal safety requirements.Improper use of the appliance can,however, present a risk of both per-sonal injury and material damage.

Before installation and before usingthe appliance for the first time, readthe operating instructions carefully. They contain important notes onsafety, on the installation, operationand care of the appliance. This wayyou will avoid the risk of accidentsand damage to the appliance.

Keep these instructions in a safeplace and pass them on to any fu-ture user.

Correct usage

The appliance is intended for do-mestic use to cook food, and in

particular to bake, roast, defrost, cook,dry fruit etc, and to grill. Any other usage is at the owner’s riskand could be dangerous. The manufac-turer cannot be held responsible fordamage caused by incorrect or im-proper use of the appliance.

Do not let children access the ap-pliance or its controls. Supervise

its use by the elderly or infirm. If allow-ing older children to use the appliancewithout supervision please ensure thatthey are aware of how the oven worksand understand the dangers of im-proper use,

Technical safety

Before connecting the applianceto the mains supply make sure that

the voltage and frequency correspondto the rating on the data plate, other-wise the appliance could be damaged.Consult a competent person if in doubt.

The electrical safety of this ap-pliance can only be guaranteed

when continuity is complete betweenthe appliance and an effective earthingsystem, which complies with local andnational regulations. It is most import-ant that this basic safety requirement istested by a qualified electrician. Themanufacturer cannot be held respon-sible for the consequences of an inade-quate earthing system (e.g. electricshock).

This appliance must only be oper-ated as a built-in appliance. This is

necessary to ensure that all electricalcomponents are shielded.

Never open the casing of the ap-pliance.

Tampering with electrical connections orcomponents and mechanical parts ishighly dangerous to the user and cancause operational faults.

Installation work and repairs mayonly be carried out by a suitably

qualified and competent person in ac-cordance with national and local safetyregulations. Repairs and other work byunqualified persons could be dan-gerous. The manufacturer cannot beheld responsible for unauthorised work.

The appliance is only completelyisolated from the electricity supply

when:

– it is switched off at the wall socket – or the mains fuse is withdrawn– or the screw-out fuse is removed (in

countries where this is applicable).

Ensure that current is not supplied tothe appliance while maintenance orrepair work is being carried out.

Do not connect the appliance tothe mains electricity supply by an

extension lead.Extension leads do not guarantee therequired safety of the appliance, (e.g.danger of overheating).

The oven is designed to be builtinto a tall unit. If you wish to install

it in a base unit, the stainless steel railabove the control panel must be re-placed by a sealing strip. The sealingstrip offers additional protection fromany liquids that might spill down fromthe worktop, and can be purchasedfrom the Miele Spare Parts dept.

This equipment is not designed formaritime use or for use in mobile

installations such as caravans, aircraftetc. However, it may be suitable forsuch usage subject to a risk assess-ment of the installation being carriedout by a suitably qualified engineer.

Use

Caution, danger of burning.High temperatures are produced bythe oven and the hob cooking areas.

Great care should be taken to en-sure that small children do not

touch the appliance when it is beingused. The hob and also external partsof the oven such as the door glass,handle vent and control panel canbecome quite hot. For cookers with ahob turn pan handles inwards to pre-vent children from pulling pans over.

Children should not be left alone orunattended in an area where an

oven is in use. They should never beallowed to sit or stand on any part ofthe oven or play with it.Do not store items of interest to child-ren in cabinets above an oven. Child-ren climbing on the oven to reachthese items could be seriously injured.

When operating the pyrolytic func-tion the front of the oven becomes

hotter than with normal oven use. Donot touch the oven door which may bevery hot and do not hang anything e.g.tea towels on the door handle duringuse. They could catch fire. Children should be kept well away fromthe appliance during pyrolytic oper-ation. Danger of burning.

Remove all accessories includingthe runners and any extra acces-

sories such as, for example, the tele-scopic carriage, from the oven interiorbefore starting the pyrolytic cleaningprocess.The high temperatures needed for pyro-lysis will damage the accessories andcause irreparable damage to the tele-scopic carriage.

Use of heat-resistant oven glovesis recommended when placing

food in the oven, turning or removing it.When working with "Conventional" heat-ing or when grilling, the element in theroof of the oven gets very hot, andthere is a danger of being burnt.

When cleaning the roof of the ovenwait until the grill element has

cooled down before lowering it, toavoid the danger of burning.

Do not use force to pull it down asthis can cause the element to

break.

Only use the Miele roast probe(core temperature probe) supplied

with this appliance. If a replacement isnecessary it can be obtained from theMiele Spare Parts dept. or a Miele spe-cialist dealer.After using do not remove the roastprobe until the oven interior is cool.

When not in use do not leave theroast probe in the oven, especially

when grilling or using the pyrolyticcleaning process. High temperatureswould damage it.

Do not use plastic containers.They melt at high temperatures

and could damage the oven.

Do not heat up unopened tins orjars of food in the oven, as press-

ure can build up and they may ex-plode. This could result in injury ordamage.

Do not push pots and pans aroundon the oven floor as this could

damage the surface.

Do not lean or sit on an open ovendoor, or place heavy items on it.

This could damage the appliance.Take care in the region of the hinges.The oven door can support a maximumload of 10 kg.

Cover any food which is left in theoven to be kept hot. This avoids

the food drying out. It also preventssteam condensing and possibly lead-ing to moisture damage in the oven.

If food is left in the oven after cook-ing, e.g. to take advantage of the

residual heat, turn the temperature se-lector to the lowest setting. Leave thefunction selector at the position set.Do not switch the appliance off until thefood has been removed. Moisture in the oven could lead to con-densation forming on the control paneland surrounding kitchen furniture anddrops of moisture collecting under theworktop. Condensation can:– damage the housing unit / worktop– lead to moisture damage in the oven.

Bake larger deep-frozen itemssuch as pizzas on baking paper

on the rack itself or in the pizza pan(see "Extra accessories"). Placing themon the baking tray or in the grill pancan cause the metal to distort. This dis-tortion would increase with subsequentuse.Deep frozen foods such as oven chipsor potato croquettes can be cooked onthe baking tray or grill pan.

Never add water to food on a hotbaking tray or grill pan or directly

onto food in a hot oven. The steam cre-ated could cause serious burns orscalding and the sudden change intemperature can damage the enamel.

Never line the floor of the oven withaluminium foil when using Conven-

tional top and bottom heat A, Bottomheat B or Intensive baking F. Donot place a dish, tin, baking tray or grillpan on the floor of the oven.

If using a grill pan made by a differentmanufacturer make sure that there is agap of at least 6 cm between the bot-tom of the pan and the floor of theoven.

If these instructions are not observedthe bottom heat will be blocked. Thiscan cause permanent damage to thefloor of the oven.

Protective aluminium foil panelsare available in retail outlets which

are supposed to protect the oven cav-ity from soiling and reduce the need forcleaning. If used, cooking and bakingtimes will increase considerably.They can also cause damage to the ap-pliance (e.g. by blocking the heat).

General notes

Never leave the appliance unat-tended when cooking with oils and

fats as these are a fire hazard ifallowed to overheat.

Do not use the oven to heat up theroom. Due to the high tempera-

tures radiated, objects left near theoven or hob could catch fire.

Always ensure that food is suffi-ciently cooked or reheated. Many

factors will affect the overall cookingtime, including the size and amount offood, its temperature, changes to therecipe and the shape and size of cook-ing container. Some foods may containmicro organisms which are only de-stroyed by thorough cooking at tem-peratures over 70°C for a minimum of10 minutes. Therefore when cooking orreheating foods, e.g. poultry, it is par-ticularly important that food is fullycooked through. If in doubt select alonger cooking or reheating time.It is important that the heat is allowedto spread evenly throughout the foodbeing cooked.This can be achieved by stirring and/orturning the food, and by observing asufficiently long standing time, whichshould be added to the time neededfor cooking, reheating or defrosting.

When using kitchen appliancesconnected to sockets near the

oven, ensure that the cable cannotcome in contact with the hot cookingzones or get trapped in a hot ovendoor, which could melt the cable insula-tion and be dangerous.Danger of electric shock.

Never use a steam cleaner toclean this appliance. The steam

could attack the electrical componentsand cause a short circuit.

If using alcohol in your recipeshigh temperatures can cause the

alcohol to vaporise and under adversecircumstances the alcohol can catchlight on the hot heating elements. Alco-hol should be burnt off before the dishis placed in the oven to avoid thisdanger.

In countries which may be subjectto infestation by cockroaches or

other vermin, pay particular attention tokeeping the appliance and its surround-ings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which might be causedby cockroaches or other vermin will notbe covered by the appliance guaran-tee.

Disposal of your old appliance

Before throwing an old applianceaway it must first be made unu-

sable. Switch off and disconnect it fromthe power supply, cut off the cable di-rectly behind the appliance and renderany plug useless. This should be doneby a competent person.

The manufacturer cannot be heldliable for damage caused by non-compliance with these Warning andSafety instructions.

Safety featuresOperating lock for oven andhob cooking zones when theoven is not being used.

The operating lock can be activated toprevent the oven or hob beingswitched on unintentionally, by childrenfor example.

The operating lock is activated as fol-lows:

The oven function selector must beset to the "0" position.

Press the "p" button until the key sym-bol appears in the display field.

The oven (and cooking zones if applic-able) can now not be switched on.

The key symbol disappears from thedisplay after 5 seconds. Whenever theselector or a button is operated, thekey symbol reappears for 5 seconds.

To cancel the operating lock:

Turn the oven function selector to anyoven function.

Press the "p" button until the key sym-bol in the display field disappears.

Oven door lock in pyrolyticmode

As soon as the pyrolytic process isstarted, the door locks automaticallyafter approx. 60 seconds.

The lock releases on completion of thepyrolytic process only when the oventemperature has dropped below ap-prox. 280°C.

If "Cleaning (Pyrolytic) ." mode is ac-cidentally selected or the process is in-terrupted the door lock is released onlyif the function selector is turned to "0"and then to "Light H". After approx. 30seconds the "p" symbol flashes, andthen the door can be opened.

Setting the clockWhen the appliance is first connectedto the power supply, or after a powercut "12:00" and the symbols "f" and")" flash in the display.

The following light up

^ While the indicator light between the"+" and "–" buttons is still lit up, enterthe time of day in hours:minutes us-ing the "+" or "–" buttons.

When the indicator light for the "+/–"button goes out, the time of day hasbeen set and the display will change atone-minute intervals. The colon flashes.

Cleaning the appliance

Oven interior

Before use please remove– any stickers from the floor of the

oven, baking trays, grill pan etc.– any cork spacers at the sides

above the oven cavity.

^ Wipe out the oven interior usingwarm water and a little washing upliquid. Polish dry with a soft cloth.

Do not close the oven door until theoven interior is dry.

^ Rinse the accessories.

New appliances have a slight smell onfirst use. Running the oven empty for atleast an hour at a high temperature willdissipate this more quickly.

^ Turn the oven function selector to"Fan Heat D".

While the indicator light for the "+/–"button is still on, alter the oven tem-perature.

^ Select the highest temperature withthe "+" button.

The timer can also be used to set thefinish time.

Ensure the room is well ventilatedduring this process.

Description of the oven systemsFan Heat D

This system works by the circulation ofheated air.

A fan situated on the back wall of theoven sucks in the air, heats it over aring element and blows the heated airthrough the carefully spaced openingsin the rear panel of the oven, enablingapprox. 20°C lower temperatures to beused than with the Conventional heat-ing system.

The oven does not usually need to bepre-heated as the heated air reachesthe food straight away.

Exception: Pre-heating may be necess-ary for foods such as puff pastry andyeast mixtures where instant heat is re-quired to make them rise quickly.

Using the fan heating system you canbake and roast on different levels at thesame time.

If a temperature of at least 140°C is se-lected, the "rapid heat-up" feature is ac-tivated automatically.

The "Top Heat" heating element swit-ches in to heat the appliance up morerapidly. This saves energy.

Food which browns quickly should notbe placed at the top of the oven whenrapid heat up is being used.

Auto Roast E

The oven heats initially to a high tem-perature which seals the meat to keepit succulent and tasty.

As soon as the high temperature hasbeen reached, the oven temperature isautomatically returned to the pre-selected setting.

If a temperature of at least 140°C is se-lected , the "rapid heat-up" feature isactivated automatically.The "Top Heat" heating element swit-ches in to heat the appliance up morerapidly. This saves energy.

Conventional heating A

With this conventional method of heat-ing, radiant heat is directed on the foodfrom above and below. It is usefulwhere a fairly long cooking time is re-quired and a deep colour and goodrise are needed.

It is usually necessary to pre-heat theoven when using this method.

If a temperature of at least 150°C is se-lected, the "rapid heat-up" feature is ac-tivated automatically. The fan and its heating element switchin to heat the appliance up morerapidly. This saves energy.

Defrost G

Defrost can be operated without heat-ing, or at a temperature of up to 50°C.When the defrost system is used with-out heating the air is circulated by thefan at room temperature.

Intensive bake F

This method combines "Fan Heat" withheat from the lower heating element,and is particularly useful for dishes thatrequire a moist topping and crisp baselike pizza and quiche lorraine.

Fan grill N

Pre-heat the grill for at least 5 minuteswith the oven door closed, before grill-ing.

The hot air from the grill is distributedover the food by the fan on the rearwall of the oven. This enables a lowertemperature to be selected than forconventional grilling.

The grill element is thermostatically con-trolled and at times during grilling willnot glow red. This is quite normal.

Grill 1 m

Pre-heat the grill for at least 5 minuteswith the oven door closed, before grill-ing.

The inner part of the upper heating ele-ment acts as the grill. This will glow redfor a few minutes after being switchedon, and it is then ready for use. Use theGrill 1 setting for small quantities.

The grill element is thermostatically con-trolled and at times during grilling willnot glow red. This is quite normal.

Grill 2 n

Pre-heat the grill for at least 5 minuteswith the oven door closed, before grill-ing.

This method is particularly good for grill-ing large quantities of food using thegrill pan to its full extent.

The entire upper heating element actsas the grill.The inner part of the grill will glow red afew minutes after being switched on.The outer part of the grill will remain no-ticeably darker, but will still producethe heat necessary to grill.

The grill element is thermostatically con-trolled and at times during grilling willnot glow red. This is quite normal.

Cleaning (Pyrolytic) .

In this mode the oven cleans itself.

The oven is heated up, and any resid-ual soiling in the oven interior isremoved by the high temperatures.After the cleaning process any pyro-lytic debris (e.g. ash) can be easilywiped out.

The oven controls consist of the ovenfunction selector and pushbuttons.

Function selector

The function selector can be turnedclockwise or anti-clockwise.

Push buttons

With the push buttons you can:

– change the oven temperature.

– change the core temperature, if theroast probe is used.

– activate the minute minder.

Each push button has a matching sym-bol in the oven display.

All entries and alterations to tempera-ture and time are made using the "+"or "–" buttons.

Temperatures / times can be entered instages (short pushes on the button)and quickly (hold button down).

In this way the following alterations canbe made– oven temperature in 5°C stages– core temperature in 1°C stages– minute minder in 1 min. stages.

If one of the buttons (p,e, l) ispressed the indicator light betweenthe "+" and "–" buttons lights up.

– Conventional ATop and bottom heat together, forlong, slow baking of traditional recipes, e.g. fruit cake, casseroles.

– Bottom heat BUse this setting towards the end ofbaking, to reheat or brown the baseof a cake, quiche or pizza.

– Auto Roast EInitial high temperature to seal meatfollowed by normal roasting tempera-ture.Not suitable for baking, except forbaking freshly prepared wholemealor rye doughs, (not packet mixes).

If you frequently work with a tempera-ture which differs from the factory rec-ommended one, it is also possible toenter your own recommended tempera-ture. (Exception: Defrost).

This saves changing the temperatureeach time you use the setting.

Proceed as follows:

Use the function selector to choosethe function which is to be given adifferent temperature.

The factory recommended temperatureappears in the display.

Now, immediately while the indicatorlight in the "+/–" button is lit, use the"+" or "–" button to enter the differenttemperature required.

To save in memory press the "p" but-ton until the audible tone is heard.

Your own recommended temperatureis now stored in memory.

Next time this oven function is se-lected, the stored recommended tem-perature appears.

After a power cut, any individually pro-grammed temperatures are lost andmust be re-entered.

Using the oven

Place food to be cooked on an ap-propriate runner height in the oven.

Turn oven function selector to the re-quired function.

The following will light up:– recommended temperature in the

oven display,– the indicator light for the "+/–" button.

If you wish to alter the temperaturefrom the recommended temperature:

Press the "p" button.

Using the "+/–" button enter thedesired temperature.

The oven will start to heat up as soon asthe indicator light for the "+/–" button goes out.

Heating is automatically interrupted assoon as the oven door is opened. Thisoperates the door contact switchwhich switches off the heating systems.When "Fan Heat" is being used, the fanis also switched off.

You can also delay the start of cookingprocesses; see "Programming cookingtime automatically".

The cooling fan will continue for a whileafter switching the oven off.

Pre-heating the oven

Pre-heating is only necessary in a fewcases e.g.:

With "Fan Heat D":

– Pre-heat for foods which cook in lessthan 20 minutes and for foods such

as puff pastry and yeast mixtureswhere instant heat is required tomake them rise quickly.

With "Conventional heat A":

– Pre-heat the oven where a fairly longcooking time is required and a deepcolour and good rise are needed.

With Grill 1 and Grill 2:

– Pre-heat the grill for at least 5minutes with the oven door closedbefore placing the food under thegrill.

To pre-heat

Turn the function selector to the re-quired function.

Select the required temperature.

When the required temperature hasbeen reached put the food into theoven.

Cancelling a process /switching off the oven

Turn the oven function selector to "0"

The oven is switched off: all processes / symbol displays arecancelled.

Exceptions:– If the roast probe is being used, the

symbol"e" is lit.– If a minute minder time has been

entered, the "l" symbol is lit and thedisplay shows the time countingdown.

Rapid heat-up

With the "Fan Heat D", "Auto RoastE"and "Conventional A" heating systems,"rapid heat-up" is switched on automati-cally if the temperature required is– at least 140°C with "Fan Heat D"

and "Auto Roast E".– at least 150°C with "Conventional A".

The rotating "C" beside the requiredtemperature shows that "rapid heat-up"is switched on.

During the heat-up phase, the "FanHeat" heating element and the fan aswell as the "Top Heat" heating elementcome on simultaneously to heat up theoven as rapidly as possible. This savesenergy.

As soon as the required temperature isreached, the extra heating element isswitched off.Once the required temperature isreached, the extra heating elementdoes not switch on again even if thetemperature is later increased.

Exception: if the temperature is in-creased before the required tempera-ture is reached, "rapid heat-up" re-mains switched on.

To switch off "rapid heat-up"

For some dishes it may be desirable toswitch off "rapid heat-up" (biscuits,small cakes).

Select the oven system and tempera-ture for the cooking process.

As soon as the actual temperature ap-pears in the display, "rapid heat-up"can be switched off.

Press the "–" button and hold untilthe "C" in the display stops rotating.

"Rapid heat-up" is now switched off forthis particular cooking process.

"Rapid heat-up" is available for the nextprogramme once the oven function se-lector has been turned to "0" at the endof the programme.

"Rapid heat-up" can be permanentlyswitched off if you do not want it (seesection on "Altering oven settings, Programmable function 06").

Energy-save function

If you are programming a cooking pro-cess using the automatic timer, or ifyou are cooking with the roast probe,the residual heat is automatically usedto save energy.

Shortly before the end of the cookingtime the oven heating switches off.

The letters "EC" in the display field indi-cate that the energy-save function is inoperation.

The residual heat in the oven is suffi-cient to complete the cooking process.

The cooling fan continues to run, asdoes the hot air fan if a "fan" setting isbeing used.

Oven lighting

When the oven is in operation the ovenlighting goes out approx. 15 secondsafter pressing the last button, to saveelectricity.

To switch the lighting back on for ashort time, press one of the buttons.

The oven lighting comes on automati-cally when an oven function has beenselected and the oven door is opened.

If preferred, you can programme theoven lighting to stay on for the durationof the cooking programme, (see "Alter-ing oven settings).

Night dimming

Between the hours of 22:00 and 6:00the lighting in the clock / timer displayis dimmed automatically to give a slightenergy saving.

Setting the minute minderThe minute minder can be used to timeany activity in the kitchen, e.g. boilingeggs. (It cannot be used to switch theoven off at the end of a set time).

You can set the minute minder at thesame time as another programme, e.g.as a reminder to baste your roast oradd seasoning etc.

To enter / to change a time:

(1 min. - 23 hrs. 59 mins.)

Press the "l" button.

Enter the required time in hours andminutes with the "+" button.

When the "+/–" button indicator light goesout, the time set starts counting down inminutes.

If the oven is being used at the sametime, the minute minder time periodonly shows for a short time. Then theoven or roast probe core temperatureshows again in the display. The "l"symbol continues to be visible as a re-minder that the minute minder is work-ing.

At the end of the set time:

– an audible tone sounds for approx.5 seconds.

– At the same time the "l" symbolflashes for approx. 1 minute.

The audible tone and the flashing sym-bol can be cancelled at any time bypressing the "l" button.

To cancel the minute minder:

Press the "l" button.

Use the "–" button to set the time to"0:00".

Altering oven settingsSome of the standard oven settings(which are set at the factory) have analternative which you can select if re-quired. Each of these settings has anidentification number which is followedby :0 or :1. Please consult the Chart forthe different options.

Proceed as follows:

Turn the oven function selector to "0".

Open the oven door fully.

Turn the oven function selector to the"Light H" position.

Press the "p" button.

"01:0" or the most recently altered set-ting appears in the oven display.

Use the "+/–" button to call up theidentification number of the settingrequired, (see chart).

Please note: Identification number 02 may appear inthe display but has no function.

If the identification number is followedby :0 the factory setting is active.

If the identification number is followedby :1 the alternative setting is active.

Press the "l" button to toggle be-tween the standard and alternativesettings.

Programming cooking time

With the timer it is possible for the ovenand both the front hob cooking zonesto be switched off automatically, or setto come on at a later time and then alsobe switched off.

The oven, the left and right front hobcooking zones can be programmed in-dependently of each other.

Programming cooking time in theoven

If a cooking process is pre-selected,the symbol "p" is displayed in the ovendisplay and the time of day and thesymbols for the time entered (f, g,)) are displayed in the clock/timerdisplay.

During a process the actual tempera-ture is shown in the oven display. Thetime of day continues to be shown inthe clock / timer display.

Shortly before the end of cookingtime the oven heating switches off auto-matically.

The Energy-save function (as de-scribed under "Ovens - Use") comesinto action."EC" now appears in the oven displayinstead of the actual oven temperature.

The oven temperature will switch onagain if:– the oven temperature is altered.– the cooking time is lengthened signi-

ficantly.

At the end of cooking time

– an audible tone sounds for approx.5 seconds,

– the ")" symbol flashes at the sametime.

Both the audible tone and the visualdisplay can be cancelled by:

– Pressing the ")" button.If the food is not cooked to yourtaste, a new cooking time can be en-tered.

– Turning the oven function selector to"0".

If the audible tone is not switched off itwill continue to sound at 5 minute inter-vals as a reminder that cooking has fin-ished. This reminder continues for upto an hour.

The cooling fan will continue for a whileafter switching the oven off.

– Pressing the ")" button.To use the oven again, the hob zoneselector switch must first of all beturned to "0".

– Turning the hob zone selector switchto "0".

To end a cooking time auto-matically

Turn the oven function selector orthe hob zone control to the requiredsetting.

Bakeware

For the best baking results make surethat you chose bakeware in a materialsuitable for the particular heating sys-tem.

"Fan Heat D", "Intensive baking F"Most types of heat-resistant tins ordishes are suitable, including thin-walled and bright, non-reflective metaltins. Place the tin or dish on the bakingtray in the oven, with the sloping edgetowards the door.

"Conventional A"The following baking tins give anevenly browned result:Dark metal, aluminium or enamel tinswith a matt finish are preferable. Heatresistant glass dishes can also be used.Avoid bright, shiny metal tins. These re-flect heat which means that the heatdoes not penetrate to the food effec-tively and will result in uneven or poorbrowning. In some cases the cakesmight not cook properly. Place the tinor dish directly on the non-tip rack inthe oven. Use one shelf position only.

Fan Heat D

Several levels can be used at the sametime for baking. The recommended po-sitions are:

1 tray = 1st runner from the bottom2 trays = 1st and 3rd runners

from the bottom3 trays = 1st, 2nd and 4th runners

from the bottom.

If baking on three levels place tinson the grill pan on the 1st runner po-sition and on baking trays on theother runner levels.

Remember to remove the roastingfilter from in front of the fan opening.Otherwise the baking time will belonger and results uneven.

With Fan Heat D approx. 20 °C lowerbaking temperatures are needed thanwith the Conventional A setting.

Intensive baking F

Remember to remove the roastingfilter from in front of the fan opening.Otherwise the baking time will belonger.

This method of heating is particularlyuseful for:– dishes that require a moist topping

and crisp base, such as pizzas andquiche lorraine, or where the basehas not been pre-baked.

Place the tin or dish on the baking trayon the 1st runner from the bottom only.

Conventional A

Only one shelf should be used for thisfunction. If more than one shelf positionis needed use Fan heat instead.

This function is particularly good forrich fruit cakes, pastries and breadswhere a fairly long cooking time is re-quired and a deep colour and goodrise are needed.

It is usually necessary to pre-heat theoven when using this method.

Place tins on the wire rack on runnerlevel 2 or 3 so that they are centrallypositioned in the oven.

General notes

Place rectangular tins in the oven asshown in the illustration.

Bake larger deep-frozen items suchas pizzas on baking paper on the rackitself or in the pizza pan (see "Extra ac-cessories"). Placing them on the bakingtray or in the grill pan can cause themetal to distort. This distortion would in-crease with subsequent use.Deep frozen foods such as oven chips

or potato croquettes can be cooked onthe baking tray or grill pan.

When baking cakes with fresh fruittoppings and tall sponge cakes placethe tin in the grill pan to catch any spil-lages and keep the oven cleaner.

When baking anything with a high saltcontent (such as pretzels) these mustbe placed on baking parchment. Highconcentrations of salt can damage Per-fectClean surfaces.

The Baking Chart and the MieleCookbook give suggestions for tem-perature, runner heights and times.

For even browning –

– Select the runner height accordingto the recipe and the setting chosen.

– Just before the end of baking timetest to see if the cake is done.

Insert a metal or wooden skewer intothe centre.If it comes out clean, without doughor crumbs sticking to it, the cake isready.

Always remove all trays and racksnot being used when using theoven to get the best results and tokeep cleaning of the trays to a mini-mum.

The cooling fan will continue for a whileafter switching the oven off.

RoastingWe recommend the following settingsfor roasting in the oven:

– Auto Roast E– Conventional A

Roasting in a covered pot

– This ensures that sufficient stock re-mains for making gravy.

– The oven stays cleaner, too.

Roasting pots with a lid made fromearthenware, cast iron, ovenproofchina or glass and roasting foil are allsuitable. Make sure any lids andhandles are heat-resistant.

Season the meat and place in the pot.Add some knobs of butter or margarineor a little oil or cooking fat. Add about1/8 litre of water when roasting a biglean joint of meat (2-3 kg) or roastingpoultry with a high fat content.

Place the covered pot on the rack intoa cold oven.

Exception: Pre-heat the oven to the tem-perature suggested when roasting beefand beef fillet.

Browning only occurs towards the endof the roasting time. Remove the lidabout halfway through the roasting time

if a more intensive browning effect isdesired.

Open roasting

Auto roast E:When roasting on the rack or in anopen tin make sure the roasting fil-ter is fitted in front of the fan in theback of the oven before starting.

Use shelf position 1 for roasting.

Exception: With conventional A userunner level 2 for poultry, meat or fishweighing up to 1 kg.The "Auto roast E" system uses anapproximately 20 °C lower roastingtemperature than the "Conventional"heating system.

When roasting on the rack place therack and anti-splash tray over the grillpan and push them in together.

Season the meat and place in the grillpan.

Calculating the roasting time

The traditional British method is to allow15 to 20 minutes to the lb, according totype of meat, plus approx. 20 minutes,adjusting length of time as roasting pro-ceeds, to obtain the required result.

Temperature

See the Roasting chart for suggestedtemperatures.

Do not select a higher temperaturethan that advised. The meat willbecome brown, but will not be cookedproperly inside.

Do not roast deep frozen meat.Meat should be thoroughly de-frosted before roasting.

After the roasting process isfinished

Take the roast out of the oven, wrap inaluminium foil and leave to stand forabout 10 minutes. This helps retain juices when the meatis carved.

The cooling fan will continue for a whileafter switching off the oven.

Roasting with the Roast ProbeUsing the roast probe enables theroasting process to be monitored sim-ply and reliably.

The tip of the probe measures the coretemperature at the centre of the meatcontinuously. When the pre-selected core tempera-ture is reached, the oven heating isautomatically switched off.

The roast probe can be used with thefollowing functions:– Auto Roast E– Conventional A– Fan Heat D– Fan Grill N

Using the roast probe

Prepare the meat in the usual way.

Insert the probe as far as possibleinto the meat.The tip of the probe must reach thecentral area of the meat.

Please note:You can place the meat in a pot or onthe rack.Roasting bags or aluminium foil mayalso be used, but only when left openat the ends. Insert the probe throughthe foil or bag into the centre of themeat.

If fat or bone come into contact with theprobe, this can lead to the oven beingswitched off too early. Therefore:– do not let the probe touch any bones.– do not insert it into a particularly fatty

area of the meat.

If the meat is very heavily marbled withfat, select the highest core temperaturegiven in the roasting chart.

The roast probe should not be used forpoultry or game birds as these containa lot of bone.

Insert the plug of the roast probe intothe socket until you feel it engage.

Turn the function selector to the re-quired oven function.

The following light up:– the recommended oven tempera-

ture in the oven display,– the indicator light for the "+/–" button.

The recommended oven temperaturecan be altered if required with the "+/– "button.

Next, a food core temperature of 60°Cappears in the oven display, and the in-dicator light for the "+/–" button is on.

If necessary this food core temperaturecan be altered with the "+/–" button ac-cording to the type of food beingcooked, (see "Oven roasting chart" forsuitable choice of temperatures) andcan be altered within a range of 20°Cto 99°C.

To do this:

Press the "e" button.

Enter the desired temperature usingthe "+" or "–" buttons.

When the light in the "+/–" button goes out

– the oven heating switches on.

– the actual core temperature ap-pears in the oven display. N.B. Thelowest temperature that can be dis-played is 20°C, so this will be shownuntil the roast probe registers 20°C.

Time left display

After a certain time the estimated resid-ual time (i.e. the time left to run), ap-pears in the oven display. The actualcore temperature is no longer visibleand cannot be called up.

The residual time is calculated from theoven temperature selected, the re-quired core temperature and the pat-tern of the increasing core temperature.

The residual time figure first shown isan estimate. As the cooking processcontinues you may see the time left fig-ure increasing. This is due to the elec-tronics checking the core temperatureand readjusting the time left. This isquite normal.

If, when the residual time is displayed:– the oven or core temperature is al-

tered,– or a different oven function is chosen,this will cancel all the residual time infor-mation, and the actual temperature willreappear.

If the oven door is held open for sometime, the residual time will be recalcu-lated.

Cooking time is completed automati-cally.

Shortly before the end of cooking timethe oven heating switches off.

The Energy-save function (as de-scribed under "Oven - use") comes intoaction. The time left continues to beshown in the display. If the "p" button ispressed, "EC" appears.

If the oven temperature is altered or thecore temperature increased, the ovenheating will switch on again.

End of cooking time

As soon as the chosen core tempera-ture has been reached– an audible tone sounds for approx.

5 seconds, and– the "e" symbol flashes.

If the audible tone is not cancelledearly, it will continue to sound every5 minutes for an hour as a reminderthat the process has finished.

The audible tone and the flashing "e"symbol can be cancelled by:

– pressing the "e" button.If the food is not sufficiently cooked,a new core temperature can be en-tered.

– turning the oven function selector to"0".Any temperatures entered will alsobe cancelled.

The cooling fan will continue for a whileafter switching the oven off.

Please note:

The timer can be used to delay thestart of the cooking process.

When finished, cover the meat withaluminium foil and allow to stand forapprox. 10 minutes. During this timethe core temperature rises another 5 – 10°C.

If the roast probe is left in the food atthe end of the cooking process, theoven display will show the core tem-perature first rising and then sinking.

The time taken to roast meat by tem-perature using the probe is similar tothat when cooking by time.

You may need to insert the probe in adifferent place and start again:

– if the cut of meat was too large (3 kgor more) for the probe to be insertedright to the centre.

– if the meat is not sufficiently roastedwhen the set temperature is reached.

– If the cut of meat is less than 1 kgthe probe cannot be used to gain anaccurate result and the time requiredshould be calculated using tradi-tional methods.

GrillingPut the roasting filter in front of thefan grille in the back of the oven.

Pre-heat the grill for at least5 minutes with the oven door shut.

Grilling with the oven door shutsaves energy and minimizes cook-ing smells.

Because the grill is thermostaticallycontrolled it will not glow red all thetime. This is normal.

The oven has three grill settings:

Grill 1 m

For grilling small quantities of thin cutsand for browning small dishes of food.The inner part of the grill element isswitched on and glows red.

Grill 2 n

For grilling large quantities of thin cutsand for browning food in large dishes.The whole of the grill element isswitched on. The inner part glows red.The outer part stays darker than theinner part but creates sufficient radiantheat for grilling.

Fan Grill N

For grilling larger items, for example,poultry, rolled meat.

The roast probe can also be used tomonitor the temperature. See the appro-priate section.

The roast probe cannot be used atthe same time as the rotisserie. Thecable would wind round the rotis-serie and be damaged.

Preparing food for grilling

Clean, wipe and season with pepperand herbs. Do not season meat withsalt before grilling as this draws the-juices out.

Add a little oil if necessary. Other fatsquickly become black or cause thefood to smoke.

Clean flat fish and slices of fish in thenormal way. To enhance the taste adda little salt or squeeze a little lemonjuice over the fish.

Grilling on the rack

Assemble the grill pan, anti-splashtray and rack as shown.

Place the food on the rack.

Turn the oven function selector to therequired grill setting.

Pre-heat the grill for at least 5 minswith the oven door closed.

Place the grill pan under the grill.

Make sure you insert the grill pan at theappropriate level for the height of thefood to be grilled:

thin cuts = level 4 or 5

thicker cuts = level 3 or 4

It is best to grill food of a similar thick-ness at the same time so that the grill-ing time for each item does not varytoo greatly.

Most items should be turned half waythrough cooking.

To grill thicker pieces of food moregradually, select an initial high tempera-ture, continue grilling at a lower tem-perature setting to allow the food tocook through to the centre.

Grilling with the rotisserie

For grilling thicker items such asstuffed meat, poultry, kebabs.

Insert the anti-splash tray in the grillpan and place the roasting filter on theback wall.

Assemble the rotisserie as shown inthe grill pan (with anti-splash trayfitted).

Two special accessories for rotisseriegrilling, a meat and poultry clamp, anda kebab grilling device are availablefrom your Miele dealer or the MieleSpare Parts Department.

Turn the oven function selector to therequired grill setting.

Put the grill pan holding the assem-bled rotisserie in the oven, using the1st runner from the bottom.

Meat should be balanced in the middleto give even rotation.

The rotisserie fits into the motor slot atthe back of the oven.

See the Rotisserie chart for suggestedtimes and temperatures.

Grilling time

Flat pieces of fish and meat usuallyneed about 5-6 minutes a side depend-ing on their texture. Thicker pieces need longer.

With rolled meat allow approx.10 minutes per cm diameter.

Useful grilling hints

One way of finding out how far througha piece of meat has been cooked is topress down on it with a spoon.

– If there is very little resistance to thepressure of the spoon, it is still redon the inside ("rare").

– If there is some resistance, the in-side will be pink ("medium").

– If there is great resistance, it isthoroughly cooked through ("welldone").

DefrostingTurn the function selector to "Defrost G"

For defrosting meat and delicate foodwe recommend defrosting at room tem-perature, i.e. without selecting an oventemperature. However, an oven temperature of up to50°C can be selected.

– Where possible remove the packa-ging and put the food to be de-frosted on a baking tray or into adish.

– All meat and poultry should be fullydefrosted before cooking. Do notuse the liquids from defrosting.

– When defrosting poultry put it on therack over the grill pan to catch thedefrosted liquid, so that the meat isnot lying in this liquid.

It is particularly important to ob-serve food hygiene rules when de-frosting poultry. Do not use the liq-uid from the defrosted poultry. Pourit away, and wash the tray, the sinkand your hands. Danger of salmon-ella.

– Fish does not need to be fully de-frosted before cooking. Defrost sothat the surface is sufficiently thawedto take herbs and seasoning.

Do not refreeze food once it hasthawed.

The time needed for defrosting de-pends on the type and weight of thefood, and at what temperature it wasdeep frozen.

All external surfaces and controlscan be cleaned using warm waterwith a little washing up liquid appliedwith a soft sponge or cloth.

Wipe the surfaces dry using a softcloth.

E-Cloth

A microfibre "E-Cloth" is available fromthe Miele UK Spare Parts Department,Part number 98013530, which is suit-able for cleaning surfaces such asstainless steel, glass, plastic andchrome without the use of chemicals.It can be washed 300 times.

To prevent the risk of scratches anddamage to the surface structure ofglass, stainless steel and aluminiumfronted appliances pay particular atten-tion to the following cleaning instruc-tions.

Glass fronted appliances

The appliance front and controls aresusceptible to scratches and abrasion.

Avoid:– abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. pow-

der cleaners and cream cleaners,– abrasive sponges, e.g. pot scourers

or sponges which have been pre-viously used with abrasive cleaningagents,

– oven sprays.

Clean the door handle and the controlelements regularly, preferably aftereach use.

This will help prevent grease or otherdeposits adhering to surfaces and be-coming difficult to remove.

Aluminium fronted appliances

Aluminium is affected by the way thatlight falls on it, by the surrounding envi-ronment and by the angle you observeit from.

Aluminium surfaces and controlsmay suffer discolouration or dam-age if acids, alkalis or soiling areleft on them for too long. Removethese straight away.

The appliance front and controls aresusceptible to scratches and abrasion.

Avoid:– cleaning agents containing soda,

acids or chlorides,– abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. pow-

der cleaners and cream cleaners,– abrasive sponges, e.g. pot scourers

To help prevent re-soiling, a proprietaryconditioning agent for stainless steelcan also be used.Apply sparingly with even pressure us-ing a soft cloth following the direction ofthe grain.

Stainless steel coloured controls

The controls may suffer discolour-ation or damage if soiling is left onthem for too long.Remove any soiling straight away.

Avoid:

– cleaning agents containing soda, ac-ids or chlorides,

Accessories

Always remove all accessories,trays and racks which are not beingused when using the oven to getthe best results and to keep clean-ing of the trays to a minimum.

Remove all accessories as well asthe runners and any extra acces-sories such as, for example, the tele-scopic carriage, from the oven inte-rior before starting the pyrolyticcleaning process. The high tem-peratures needed for pyrolysis willdamage the accessories and causeirreparable damage to the tele-scopic carriage.

Baking tray, grill pan, rack and sidesupports

The surfaces of these have beentreated with PerfectClean enamelling.See "PerfectClean" for cleaning instruc-tions.

Roasting filter

Clean in a solution of hot water and alittle washing up liquid or in the dish-washer.

Note: some dishwasher detergentsmay cause the surface of the metal fil-ter to discolour. This discolouration willnot affect the functioning of the filter inany way.

The filter, unlike other accessories, canbe pyrolytically cleaned.Pyrolytic cleaning can cause perma-nent discolouration of the filter. How-ever, this will not affect the functioningof the filter in any way.

Roast probe

Wipe with a damp cloth.

Do not put the roast probe intowater, or clean it in the dishwasher.This would damage it.

Rotisserie

Clean in a solution of hot water and alittle washing up liquid. Stubborn soil-ing should be soaked first before beingremoved. If necessary a non-abrasiveproprietary stainless steel cleaner maybe used.

PerfectClean

Before using for the first time removeany stickers from PerfectClean sur-faces.

The enamelled surfaces of the bakingtray, grill pan, rack and side supportshave been treated with a new type ofenamelling called "PerfectClean".

This surface has very good anti-stickproperties which is much easier to keepclean than conventional oven enamel, ifcleaned regularly.

Food can be taken off it more easilyand soiling from baking and roasting iseasier to remove.

The following notes on cleaning andcare should ensure that the anti-stickand easy clean properties ofPerfectClean last for many years.

PerfectClean surfaces can be treatedas you would treat glass. If you are un-sure whether a particular cleaningproduct is suitable for PerfectCleanconsider whether you could clean awindow pane with the product withoutdamaging it.

Food can be sliced or cut up on thePerfectClean surface in the same wayas on a baking tray with conventionalenamel.

Allow the oven and any accessoriesto cool down before cleaning. Dan-ger of burning!

Normal soiling

Clean as soon as possible after eachuse with a dishcloth, soft sponge (suchas the Vileda sponge supplied withovens in the UK) or a soft nylon brush,and a solution of hot water and a littlewashing up liquid. The longer soiling isleft the harder it may become to re-move.

Stubborn soiling

Stubborn soiling e.g. from roasting mayneed to be soaked first with a dampsponge to loosen it and if necessary ascraper suitable for glass surfaces canbe used to remove it.

After cleaning rinse thoroughly withclean water. The water must run off thesurface easily. Any residual cleaningagents will hinder this effect.

Using oven sprays on very stubbornsoiling

Some oven cleaners contain strongalkalines and / or abrasivematerials. Because the enamel isdesigned to be easily cleaned theuse of these cleaners is not recom-mended.However if you still cannot get thesurface clean, an oven cleaner canbe used for a couple of minutes only.Do not attempt to use on a hot ovenor accessories. Allow thePerfectClean surfaces to cool downto room temperature before applyingoven sprays!

Apply a spray oven cleaner to thesoiled areas. Leave to take effect fora couple of minutes only!

If necessary use a soft sponge (e.g.the Vileda sponge as supplied with theoven), soft nylon brush or a scrapersuitable for glass surfaces to loosenthe soiling.

Repeat the process if necessary.

After cleaning rinse thoroughly withclean water and then dry thoroughly.

Important

For optimum performance of the Per-fectClean enamel it is important toclean the oven and accessories aftereach use.

The surfaces will become harder toclean and the anti-stick propertieswill deteriorate if soiling is notremoved after each use and allowedto build-up. In extreme cases clean-ing may even become impossible.

The following cause lasting damageto the surface structure and reducethe anti-stick effect and must not beused on PerfectClean surfaces:

– abrasive cleaning agents – wire wool or metal scourers– pot scourers– oven cleaning pads – sponges and cloths which have previously been used with abrasive cleaning agents.– oven spray must not be used in a hot oven or left on for too long.– items coated with PerfectClean enamelling must not be cleaned in a dishwasher.

Note

Soiling such as spilt juices and cakemixtures are best removed whilst theoven or tray is still warm. Exercise cau-tion, make sure the oven is not hot -danger of burning!

Spilt fruit juices may cause lasting dis-colouration of the surfaces and roast-ing can cause matt areas to appear.Clean these following the instructionsgiven above and do not try and useforce to remove them! This discolour-ation is permanent but will not affectthe efficiency of the enamel.

When baking items with a high salt con-tent (e.g. continental pretzels) placethem on baking parchment in the bak-ing tray or grill pan. Sodium depositscan cause lasting discolouration to Per-fectClean surfaces.

Oven interior (Pyrolytic)The oven interior is coated with darkpyrolytic enamel which facilitatescleaning.

This is a particularly hard enamel withan extremely smooth surface.

Because of its anti-stick propertiesmost debris can easily removed with adamp cloth. This should be done aftereach use.

Never use hard brushes, hardsponges, wire wool pads, knives orany other scourer. This may causedamage to the enamel.

Pyrolytic cleaning of the oven interior

During the pyrolytic process the oven isheated to very high temperatures. Anyresidual soiling is removed by the hightemperatures.

As soon as the pyrolytic process isstarted, the oven door locks automati-cally after approx. 60 seconds. Thelock releases on completion of thepyrolytic process only when the oventemperature has fallen below 280°C.

The duration of the pyrolytic process isadjusted according to the level of soil-ing of the oven. It can take from a mini-mum of 2 hours up to a maximum of 3hours 50 minutes plus a cooling downperiod.

Remove large pieces of debris fromthe oven interior before starting thepyrolytic process.

To avoid the risk of damaging thedoor seals you should wipe themclean before running the pyrolyticcleaning programme.

Remove all accessories includingthe shelf supports and any extra ac-cessories such as, for example, thetelescopic carriage, from the oveninterior before starting the pyrolyticcleaning process. The high tempera-tures needed for pyrolysis will dam-age the accessories and cause ir-reparable damage to the telescopiccarriage. Make sure nothing is hang-ing on the door handle e.g. tea tow-els. Danger of burning!

With the pyrolytic function the frontof the oven becomes hotter thanwith normal use. Do not touch theoven door which may be very hot.Children should be kept well awayfrom the appliance during pyrolyticoperation.

^ Turn the function selector to"Cleaning (Pyrolytic) .".

"PYRO" lights up , and the "p" symbolflashes in the oven display.

^ Press the "p" button.As soon as the "p" button is pressed,– the "p" symbol lights up,– the oven door is locked after

approx. 60 seconds,– the pyrolytic process begins,– the catalyser switches itself on.

In the case of severe soiling the pyro-lytic process is interrupted. Removelarge pieces of debris before startingthe pyrolytic process again.

The end of the pyrolytic process isshown– by the "p" symbol flashing, and– by an audible toneonce the oven has cooled to a tempera-ture below 280°C and the door lockhas been released.

After the pyrolytic process pyrolyticdebris (e.g, ash), which can build upaccording to the level of soiling, caneasily be removed.

Only remove debris when the ovenhas cooled. Danger of burning!

Most debris can be removed with adamp cloth. Depending on the level ofsoiling, in certain circumstances aclearly visible film can build up on theoven door, on the panel and under theguard. This can be removed with ashielded blade scraper or a non-ab-rasive sponge and a mild solution ofwarm water and washing-up liquid.

Spilt fruit juices may cause lastingdiscolouration of the surfaces androasting can cause matt areas to ap-pear. This discolouration is perma-nent but will not affect the efficiencyof the enamel. Do not attempt toremove these marks.

You can delay the start of the pyro-lytic process for example, to takeadvantage of cheaper night electricity

tarifs.In order to do this, start the pyrolyticprocess and use the "f" button todelay the start of the process.As soon as the start delay is taken up, – "PYRO" goes out in the display– the "p" symbol lights up.When the pyrolytic process starts,"PYRO" lights up in the display.

The pyrolytic process is interrupted,– if the function selector is turned to

the "0" position.– if another function is selected during

the pyrolytic process.– in the event of a power cut.

The oven door remains locked in thecase of an interruption.

The door will only open again when theoven temperature has fallen below280°C and the function selector hasbeen turned to the "0" position and thento "Light H". The "p" symbol lights up inthe display.When, after approx. 30 seconds, the "p"symbol flashes, the door can be opened.

If the heat-up phase of the pyrolyticprocess interrupts independently,the error message "F 15" appears in thedisplay.The door will open only when the oventemperature has fallen below 280 °Cand the function selector has beenturned to the "0" position and then to"Light H". After approx. 60 seconds the errormessage goes out and "PYRO" and the"p" symbol light up in the display.When after approx. 30 seconds, the"p" symbol flashes, the oven door can beopened.

Cleaning and careTo make cleaning easier you can

– remove the oven door,

– take out the runners,

– lower the top heating element.

To remove the oven door

Please note : the oven door isheavy. It should be gripped firmly atthe sides when being removed or re-fitted.

Open the door fully.

Before the door can be removed,the door hinges need to be lockedso that they do not damage thedoor when it is taken out.

Flip down the locking clamps oneach door hinge. This locks thehinges.

Lift the door up until it is nearly in theclosed position. The hinges will auto-matically swing out in this position,then remove the door.

To re-fit the oven door

Hold the door as shown above andcarefully put the locked hinges intothe guide holes until they engage.Open the door fully.

Still supporting the bottom of thedoor, flip the locking clamps up.

It is essential that the lockingclamps are flipped up when thedoor is re-fitted after cleaning.Otherwise on closing the door, thehinges could work loose from theguide holes and this could result indamage to the door.

To remove the runners

Make sure the oven heating ele-ments are switched off and cool toavoid the danger of being burnt.

Pull on the fixing knob to release it.

Take the runners out of the oven.

Reassemble in the reverse order, care-fully ensuring all parts are correctly inplace.

To lower the upper heating element

The oven heating elements must beswitched off and cool to avoid thedanger of being burnt.

Take out the runners.

Pull down on the fixing knob for theelement to release it.

Gently lower the element.

Correcting minor faultsInstallation, maintenance and re-pairs to the electrical componentsof this appliance should only be car-ried out by a suitably qualified andcompetent person in accordancewith national and local safety requla-tions. Repairs and other work by un-qualified persons could be dan-gerous. The manufacturer cannotbe held responsible for unauth-orised work.

Some minor problems however can bedealt with as follows:

Check whether,

the selector switch is set to the func-tion required, and the temperaturecontrol is set at the correct tempera-ture.

the operating lock is activated.

the mains fuse has blown. Contact aqualified electrician or the Miele Ser-vice Department.

Make sure the halogen lamp is con-nected properly in its socket.

If after checking it, it still does not workyou will need to change it:

Disconnect the appliance from theelectricity supply. Switch off at theisolator or the mains fuse box.

There is a slide access flap on eachside trim of the oven.

Slide the relevant access flap up-wards.

Pull out the metal strip.

Replace the halogen lamp:12 V, 20 W, heat resistant up to 300°C, G4socket, Osram, Type 64428.

Exercise caution when changing alamp. Halogen lamps get very hot dur-ing use and will remain hot for sometime after being switched off.

Do not touch the surface directly whenchanging the lamp as grease particlesfrom your fingers will adhere to the sur-face and damage it. Please follow themanufacturer’s instructions.

Reassemble in the reverse order, care-fully ensuring all parts are correctly inplace.

. . . no noise is heard when the ovendoor is opened during operation.

This is not a fault. If the door is opened during operation,the door contact switch causes theoven heating, and the fan if on "Fan"setting, to be switched off.

. . . a noise can be heard after bak-ing, roasting or grilling.

This is not a fault.The cooling fan continues to run for awhile after the oven has been switchedoff to prevent any humidity building upin the oven, on the control panel or inthe oven housing unit. When the tem-perature has fallen sufficiently the fanswitches off automatically.The temperature will fall faster whenthe oven door is opened partially orfully.

. . . cakes and biscuits are notcooked after following the timesgiven in the chart.

Check whether,

the correct temperature was set.

there has been a change to therecipe. The addition of more liquid ormore eggs makes a moister mixwhich would need longer to cook.

the roasting filter had been left inplace in front of the fan when cook-ing with "Fan heat D" or "Intensivebaking F" or was in place for "Autoroast E". In this case baking timesmight be lengthened by 10 to 15minutes.

. . . cakes or biscuits are unevenlybrowned.

There will always be a slight uneven-ness. Product information sheets give apercentage result for standard brown-ing tests. These refer to results for onetray.

If the item being baked is browningvery unevenly, check:

– when baking with "Fan Heat D":

whether the temperature was set toohigh,

whether the roasting filter was inplace,

whether the correct runner heightwas used.

– when baking with "Conventional A":

the colour and composition of thebaking tins being used. Light col-oured, shiny, or thin walled tins areless suitable,

whether the correct runner heightwas used.

. . . "F" and a number appear in theoven display field.

This combination indicates a fault

– If "F3" appears the core tempera-ture (roast) probe has a fault. Remove the probe from its socketand the message will disappear.

– If "F6" appears the oven has auto-matically switched itself off duringuse. This is a safety feature to pro-tect the oven if it has been operatingfor an exceedingly long period. Thelength of time depends on the ovenfunction selected.

The oven can be used again immedi-ately by simply turning the oven func-tion selector to "0" and then enteringthe process again.

– If "F9", appears in the display, thismay mean that the maximum tem-perature of the appliance has beenexceeded.

The appliance automatically switches it-self off temporarily. As soon as thetemperature has fallen to an accept-able level the fault message disap-pears. The appliance switches itselfon again automatically.If this fault message occurs re-peatedly, please inform the Servicedept. Please quote the fault mess-age.

– "F13": The door lock for the pyrolyticfunction does not operate. First turn the function selector to the"0" position and then to "Light H". After approx. 60 seconds the errormessage will go out and "PYRO" andthe symbol "p" light up in the display. After approx. 30 seconds the symbol"p" flashes. Turn the function selector to "0", theoven is ready to operate again.If you still cannot operate the oven orif this error message occurs more fre-quently call the Service dept.

– “F14”: The door lock for the pyrolyticfunction does not open.If an attempt was made to open thedoor before the “p” symbol startedflashing to indicate the end of the py-rolytic cleaning process push thedoor properly shut and wait until the“p” symbol starts flashing in the dis-play. This releases the lock and theoven door can now be opened.If “F14” still appears in the displaythis could be due to a defective com-ponent. Call the Service Department.

– "F15": the pyrolytic process was in-terrupted during the heat-up phase.First turn the function selector to the"0" position and then to "Light H". After approx. 60 seconds the errormessage will go out, and "PYRO" andthe symbol " p" light up in the display. After approx. 30 seconds more thesymbol "p" flashes. Turn the function selector to "0", theoven is ready to operate again. If you still cannot operate the oven orif this error message occurs more fre-quently call the Service dept.

– “F17”: The catalyser temperaturesensor is defective. “F17” does not show constantly inthe display. It appears for approx. 10seconds when the programme selec-tor is turned to the “0” position.The oven can still be used for normalcooking programmes. However thecatalyser will not switch on and cook-ing smells will therefore not be dis-pelled during cooking.

As soon as the programme selectoris turned to “Pyrolytic .”, “F17” willappear in the display. It is notpossible to start a pyrolytic cleaningprogramme. If the temperature sensor becomesdefective during pyrolytic operationall heating elements will switch offand “F17” will appear in the display.The oven door cannot be openeduntil the internal oven temperaturehas dropped to below 280 °C andthe “p” symbol is flashing in the dis-play.

– If any other fault message appearsin the display, this will need a ser-vice visit. Please quote the faultmessage.

. . . the timer display does not lightup when the oven is operating.

This is not a fault.The display does not light up if the timeof day display has been switched off.Press "f" and ")" at the same time."12:00" will appear in the display field.

. . . the time of day cannot be re-setafter a power cut.

This is not a fault.Check whether the function selector isstill set to one of the functions. If it is,turn it to the "0" position.

The time of day can now be re-set.

. . . the energy-save function is notactivated when cooking with theroast probe or the timer.

This is not a fault.Certain conditions must be fulfilled be-fore the system controlling the energy-save function comes into operation.Sometimes these do not occur.

Telescopic carriage

The telescopic carriage with 5 levels ofrunners can be drawn right out of theoven. This gives a good overview of allthe cooking in progress. Do not on anyaccount leave the telescopic carriagein the oven during the pyrolytic clean-ing process. The high temperaturesneeded for pyrolysis will cause the lubri-cant on the guide runners to burn andcause irreparable damage to the tele-scopic carriage.

Pizza pan

This circular pan is suitable for cookingpizzas, flat cakes made with yeast orwhisked mixtures, sweet and savourytarts, baked desserts, and can also beused for deep frozen cakes and pizzas.

Baking stone

The baking stone is ideal for itemswhich need a well baked base such aspizza, quiche, bread, bread rolls andsavoury snacks.

The baking stone is made from heat re-taining fire brick and is glazed. Place it directly on the rack.

A paddle made of untreated wood issupplied with it for placing food on thebaking stone and taking it off.

The gourmet oven dish can be placedin the oven directly on the runners. Ithas non-tip safety notches like the oventray to prevent it being pulled out toofar. It has a special protective anti-stickcoating.It is available either 22 or 35 cm deep. A lid is available separately.

Radio controlled clock*

A receiver for the radio controlled clocksignal is connected to the cooker oroven. Time of day adjustment occursautomatically on receipt of the signal.

Miele Info Control*

A transmitter may be connected to thecooker or oven. This is used to transmitinformation at any time about a cookingprocess (e.g. temperature, delay start,time remaining) to the mobile receiver.

If the socket is not accessible after in-stallation (depending on country) an ad-ditional means of disconnection mustbe provided for all poles.

For extra safety it is advisable to installa residual current device with a trip cur-rent of 30 mA (in accordance with DINVDE 0664, VDE 0100 Section 739).

When switched off there must be an all-pole contact gap of 3 mm in the isola-

tor switch (including switch, fuses andrelays acc. to EN 60 335).

Installation of the hob controlunit

Turn off the mains electricity supplyto the isolator.

Install the hob, see separate instruc-tions.

Connect the cooker to the electricitysupply by the isolator.

Align the cooker in front of the baseunit.

With some models there is a yellowand green earth lead on the cookerwhich must be secured to the baseof the hob.

Pull the control knobs for the hoband the cooker plugs out of the in-sert retainers.

Fit the KSE hob electronic unit intoplace.

Installing a cooker

The appliance must only be oper-ated when it has been built-in.

When installing the cooker:

– There must not be a unit rear panelfitted behind the cooker.

– If an interim shelf is fitted beneaththe oven, a cut-out is required asclose to the wall as possible to en-sure that there is sufficient ventilationfor the appliance.The shape of the cut-out is not im-portant, as long as cut-out measuresat least 150 cm2.

Do not fit insulation material insidethe housing unit. This would hinderthe intake of air to cool the appli-ance.

^ Push the cooker into the housing unitas far as the oven trim and align.

^ Open the oven door and using twoscrews secure the oven to the sidewalls of the housing unit through theholes in the oven trim.

Do not unscrew the screws com-pletely.

Put the decor strips back in placeand tighten the screws.

The appliance must only be oper-ated when it has been built-in.

The oven is designed to be built intoa tall unit. If you wish to install it in abase unit, the stainless steel railabove the control panel must be re-placed by a sealing strip. The seal-ing strip offers additional protectionfrom any liquids that might spilldown from the worktop, and can bepurchased from the Miele SpareParts dept.

If the oven is to be built into a baseunit, a cut-out is required in the in-terim shelf as close as possible tothe wall or unit back panel to ensurethat there is sufficient ventilation forthe appliance.The length and depth of the cut-outis not important, as long as cut-outmeasures at least 150 cm2 (see also"Installing the cooker").
