Three Major Product Categories at the Shanghai Auto Show

Reporters were thrilled to see a brand new Great Wall Motor at the 13th Shanghai International Auto Show. In the 1600 m2 show room, Great Wall Motor offered sedans, SUVs, Pickup-MPVs three primary layout stations with various models interspersed elegantly, stealing the show from its stage mate Toyota. The whole array presented production vehicles, show vehicles, special vehicle models, hi-tech engines and “12+3” prod-ucts layout. Three high-end mysterious models finally made the much anticipated grand entry.

It has caught industry’s attention that, in the mid of the global financial crisis, Great Wall Motor has won overseas distributors’ full confidence through its R&D vigor and development potential. Great Wall Motor’s overseas distributors from over 90 countries were invited to attend this special occa-sion in discussing sales and marketing strategies, which created a bright scenery for this auto show.

Great Wall Motor wanted to establish a concept of “Tri-Categories under One Umbrella” through this auto show. Each category has its own name and interpretation of the brand. It was reported that, under the Great Wall sedan category, identified by model, the product series included Gwperi, FLORID, COOLBEAR, as well as “CH031” and “CHC011” which had not yet been officially named. The SUV category was named after “HOVER,” with “HOVER M” and “HOVER H” two vehicle series. Currently, there are over ten prod-ucts under the “HOVER family.” This show featured M1, M3, H5, and H7. The pickup MPV category was named “WINGLE,” referred to as the "A" series from now on while keeping the

existing “DEER,” “SAILOR” and “COWRY” prod-uct names.

Ms. Fengying Wang, the President of Great Wall Motor Company Limited, pointed out that the whole concept of product categorization was revolved around emphasizing market positioning in each major category and enabling customers to identify products. In addition, Great Wall Motor must continue to reinforce its championship in SUV and pickup markets while focusing on its competitive advantage in manufacturing sedans. Integrating all three categories provides powerful support to the branding of Great Wall Motor.

engines at the first show demonstrated company's rapid emerging R&D potentialThe three new show models revealed by the Great Wall Motor at the Shanghai auto show were highly refreshing. Without knowing the brand, one could hardly believe that these fashionable and edgy high-end models were coming from an inde-pendent automaker.

The whole new “GWKULLA” symbolizes the latest direction for new energy autos. This electric pow-ered light model with four doors and four seats utilizes lithium-ion power battery and a permanent magnetic synchronous D. C. motor. The energy consumption is merely 10 degrees per 100 Km. It

can be driven continuously for 160 Km. Maximum speed is 130 Km/h. An absolute value for mass production. The novel and unique three-box sedan under the series number “CHC011” is the trump of all the Great Wall sedans. This sedan is the “Level C” vehicle that the company is planning to introduce to the market next. It is equipped with one 3.0L V6 engine and one 6-speed automatic transmission. With high-end devices such as the omni-directional vehicle visual display system and ACC, this beauty is capable of competing with 300,000 RMB imported brands in the market.

Having been struggling through the mid-lower end SUV market, Great Wall Motor’s luxurious SUV model at this show was a phenomenal revolution. It was titled "HOVER H7.” With her exclusive and exquisite stenciled side door design, from the very first sight, the beauty was an affair to remember. Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and all-time four-wheel drive technology, the maximum speed can reach up to 225 Km. A Great Wall Motor R&D engineer stated that, “High-end models are not specialties only to the multina-tional corporations nor joint-venture brands. We want to show our absolute capability in R&D through introducing these three show vehicles.”

In terms of engines, the Great Wall Motor displayed three most technologically advanced engines in the market. The gasoline engine employs a two-stage supercharge technology, double VVT technology, and the aluminum light weight design. The four-cylinder diesel engine utilizes advanced technologies such as VGT supercharge, high-pressure common-rail direct injection and balance shaft. The three-cylinder diesel engine achieves power efficiency under either high or low speed through the use of the two-stage supercharge technology.

The theme, “A Smooth Drive into the Future with Great Wall Motor,” that was displayed boldly in the center stage depicted the main idea for entering the show. According to the designer of this exhibit, “the pursuit of premium quality” stood for Great Wall Motor’s automaking philosophy which was consistent with that of the world. “A smooth drive into the future” signified Great Wall Motor’s quint-essential steadfast operational tradition. It also implied that the stability of the Great Wall Motor brand could bypass the severe scrutiny of time in terms of quality.

According to the “Tri-Categories” development planning, Great Wall Motor has been pushing this year’s new models into the market in a systematic

manner. Of these new models, there are nine with emission quantity under 1.6 L. New models are introduced to the market almost on a month to month basis. The “FLORID” model equipped with a 1.5L aluminum VVT engine has been fully released, with demands greatly exceeding supplies. In mid March, the eccentric “COOL-BEAR” model, whose sales had gone through the roof, received enormous public attention due to its spokesman, famous comedian – Xiao Shenyang. By the mid of this month, the 2.0L “HOVER H3” has made an official entrance to the market. In May, “HOVER M1” and “COWRY ‘09” will launch the market successively. 2009 is the year that Great Wall Motor will expand in full force in the sedan and mini-SUV lines.

Dear Friends, Good afternoon!

Today we are sitting together again like a family reunion, I am very impressed and feel very excited. On behalf of Great Wall Motor, I would like to warmly welcome and say thank you to all of you for your coming.

2008 is a hard year for both of us. Facing the many difficulties and challenges, our principal is “Never give in, and never give up”. Great Wall Motor will never abandon any partner, and never give up any cooperation chance.

It is just like the theme of our conference “hand in hand, overcome the hard times”.

During 2008, the year of turbulence, Great Wall

Motor and all our partners come under the huge affect and face the big pressure which we never had before.

However, under the hard situation, Great Wall Motor still obtains some achievements in the Chinese auto field:

1. Great Wall Pickup has kept the first place in sales for 11 consecutive years in China.2. Great Wall SUV has been the largest seller for 6 consecutive years in China.3. Great Wall SUV is the champion in sales volume for exportation.4. Great Wall Pickup is the number one in sales volume for exportation.5. Gwperi and Florid becomes the quality sample model for the Chinese passenger cars.6. Products’ “High quality” has been become the core public praise to Great Wall Motor brand.

Therefore, our plan is:

1. To launch 13 kinds of models in 2009, launch 11 kinds of new models from 2010 to 2011. 2. It gives priority to the A class passenger car

before 2010, and to develop the B and C class passen ger car after 2010.3. To develop the high efficiency and environmen-tal new energy car.

Great Wall Motor’s enterprise develop-ment strategy is as follows:

1. 800,000 units production capability will come into being in 2010. Among it, 500,000 units production capability will be formed in Baoding city and 300,000 units’ production capability will be formed in Tianjin City.

2. In 2010, Great Wall Motor will build up the Chinese biggest whole vehicle production and KD spare parts exportation base in Tianjin City.3. To develop the auto core matching system, and to form 80% core spare parts self-matching capacity.

In 2009, Chinese auto market will be in a high lever development trend, our target in 2009 is:

1. To realize the sales volume of 200,000 units for the whole year, which 130,000 units in the domes-tic market, and 70,000 units in the overseas market.2. Great Wall SUV will be the largest seller for 7 consecutive years in China.3. Great Wall Pickup will keep the first place in

sales for 12 consecutive years in China.4. A class passenger car becomes the number one in sales volume in China.5. Great Wall pickup keeps the champion in sales volume for exportation.6. Great Wall SUV keeps the champion in sales volume for exportation.

Great Wall Motor product planning is to develop the products around the three big series of passenger car, SUV, and Pickup, and to form brand structure of the three big parts.

In 2009, Great Wall Motor development target to the global distributor is: Changing the export trade manner to brand establishment, changing the cooperation mode from most of order cooperation to long-term and continuable market development cooperation, and we are willing to build up and keep close long-term cooperation relationship with our Distributor.

Especially, facing the current global auto market heavy pressure, Great Wall Motor will persistently support you and behind you, and will make out the feasibility business stage policy, and hope we can insist on and get though the hard times.

We understand to keep persistence is very difficult, everyone intends to find out the “short-term benefit”. Therefore, according to the different countries and fully consider the “short-term and long-term” cooperation target, and the business stage policy will fully present the “short-term ben-efit” and “long-term benefit” relationship.

Today all the people here are Great Wall Motor’s good friends, and also our old friends.

Affected by the global financial crisis, Great Wall Motor together with all our distributors were chal-lenged by sever difficulties in year 2008, espe-cially the second half year. We are not able to transform this rarely experienced financial crisis and economic recession, but to face the reality and analyze the deficiency of ourselves:

1.Affected by global financial crisis, export target

was not accomplished, however sales volume increased achieving a higher rate than the overall performance of China’s auto exports

2.Inventory in Distributors & Dealers increased, sales slowed down, financial pressure grew

3.Affected by manufacture cost and exchange rate, export price increased with fluctuation

4.Aftersale service needs to be better, spare parts assistance is not sufficient

We firmly believe that the financial crisis can not stop the social development. When we are feeling the negative impact brought by the economic recession, at the same time, we are expecting recovery and improvement for world economy after G20 conference.

For Great Wall Motor, I can tell you that financial crisis has not brought us critical impact and affect. Since the last quarter of 2008 till today, the sales for Great Wall vehicles in domestic market has been recovered dramatically. Compared with the same period of last year, the sales volume of the first quarter in 2009 has been increased 40%.

Here, I want to express my gratitude to my colleague, Mr. Jia Yaquan, Vice president of Great wall Motor company and General Manager Domestic Market Sales Division and congratulate him and his team for their great achievements.

At the same time, the target for achieving a ratio of one to one between export and domestic market is becoming harder. More efforts are required for all of us now. I firmly believe that with the support and cooperation of our overseas partners, we can certainly accomplish this target.

First, we believe that the stable and fast sales increase in domestic market can contribute to decrease production cost for our overseas market.

Second, the quick launch of GWM new models will provide more various products which are suitable for different overseas markets. From 2009 to 2010, we will launch 24 new models in total, later Mr. Wang Shihui will give us a detailed introduction on this

Third, the fast development of production capac-ity and technical improvement for vehicle and spare parts, will ensure the quality and production capability considerably, which can also promote the sales network expansion in more overseas markets.

Forth, various opportunities and sound well-being policy of GWM will benefit to staff stabiliza-tion and inspire employee’s work enthusiasm, and this will create a well foundation to long term development of Great Wall Motor Company Limited.

Fifth, the economic reform will bring us the unfa-vorable impacts. However, this reform can also be conductive to eradicate the adverse factors to the economic development, driving the economic to be healthier. In this case, this reform will certainly provide good opportunities and conditions for the new round of economic development.
