INTRODUCTION

HCL Technologies is a leading global IT services company, working with clients in

the areas that impact and redefine the core of their businesses. Since its inception

into the global landscape after its IPO in 1999, HCL focuses on ‘transformational

outsourcing’, underlined by innovation and value creation, and offers integrated

portfolio of services including software-led IT solutions, remote infrastructure

management, engineering and R&D services and BPO. HCL leverages its extensive

global offshore infrastructure and network of offices in 26 countries to provide

holistic, multi-service delivery in key industry verticals including Financial Services,

Manufacturing, Consumer Services, Public Services and Healthcare. HCL takes

pride in its philosophy of ‘Employees First, Customer Second’ which empowers our

73,420 transformers to create a real value for the customers. HCL Technologies,

along with its subsidiaries, had consolidated revenues of US$ 3.3 billion (Rs. 15,160

crores), as on 31 March 2011 (on LTM basis).

HCL is a $5.7 billion leading global technology and IT enterprise comprising two

companies listed in India - HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems. Founded in

1976, HCL is one of India's original IT garage start-ups. A pioneer of modern

computing, HCL is a global transformational enterprise today. Its range of offerings

includes product engineering, custom & package applications, BPO, IT

infrastructure services, IT hardware, systems integration, and distribution of

information and communications technology (ICT) products across a wide range of

focused industry verticals. The HCL team consists of over 79,000 professionals of

diverse nationalities, who operate from 31 countries including over 500 points of

presence in India. HCL has partnerships with several leading Global 1000 firms,

including leading IT and technology firms

HCL Technologies

While HCL Enterprise has a 30-year history, HCL Technologies is a relatively young

company formed, 15 years ago, in 1998. During this period, HCL has built unique

strengths in IT applications (custom applications for industry solutions and package

implementation), IT infrastructure management and business process outsourcing,

while maintaining and extending its leadership in product engineering. HCL has

also built domain depth through a micro-verticalization strategy in industries such

as Financial Services, Hi-tech and Manufacturing, Retail, Media and Entertainment,

Life Sciences, and Telecom.

HCL has created the ability to distribute value across the customer's IT landscape

through its well-distributed services portfolio, significant domain strengths, and

locally relevant geographic distribution. HCL has the widest service portfolio among

Indian IT service providers, with each of its services having attained critical mass.

Our five mature lines of business are R&D and Engineering, Custom Applications,

Enterprise Applications, IT Infrastructure Management, and BPO Services. In

addition, HCL has recently launched its Enterprise Transformation Service offerings

comprising of Business, Technology, Application and Data Transformation – the four

broad needs of any enterprise. Our ability to synergistically integrate these service

lines across the entire IT landscape creates new zones for value creation.

Additionally, HCL has created unique service leadership in each of these areas

through best-of-breed unique propositions. HCL’s leadership in these service areas

has been recognized by several leading independent analysts.

In 2005, HCL started questioning the linearity of scale-driven business models

adopted by service providers (largely in the IT application business). The

questioning led us to the belief that the market was rapidly approaching a point of

inflection, that is a point where the volume and value proportionality would change,

opening up new opportunities for service providers who aspire to focus on value.

With this realization, HCL embarked on a transformational journey that focuses on

value centricity in customer relationships and on leveraging new market

opportunities, while creating a unique employee experience. Hence HCL entered a

new phase of evolution – transforming it from a volume-driven service provider to

value-centric enterprise that turns technology into competitive advantage for all its

customers across the globe. Today HCL’s new way of doing business is being

recognized by Harvard, IDC, Fortune, Forbes, Economist, Business Week and the

likes

Global Services 100 2009

HCL Technologies leaders in Human Capital Development

HCL Technologies has been declared Leaders in the category Human Capital

Development and is ranked 3rd amongst the 100 best global IT service provider companies

that made it to the Global Services 100 list 2009.

In the midst of recession when news about layoffs doesn’t shock any more, HCL has won the

award for developing human capital. It is the "Employee First Customers Second" philosophy,

which placed HCL on top this year right from the fifth position last year.

The Global Services 100 is an annual compilation of the world's most innovative service

providers selected on the basis of a research study conducted by Global Services and neoIT,

an outsourcing advisory firm. Hundreds of global IT and BPO service providers were invited

to participate in this year’s Global Services 100 survey - Service providers from 17 countries,

with delivery centers across 31 countries, comprised the list of participants. Functionally,

these providers cover a range of services across IT and BPO, including IT application

services, infrastructure, FAO, HRO and contact centers.

Corporate Social Responsibility @ HCL

To give back to the society what we received from it has been the constant endeavor

at HCL Technologies. We take pride in being a company with a strong social

conscience, and this ideology stems out of the fact that we are closely linked to the

communities we operate in.

We believe that every drop counts and every step aimed at helping the community is

an important step. Our commitment to make a positive difference to the

environment or the underprivileged is not about a one off initiative but is a

sustained effort to make a visible change to people's lives.

Green@HCL

Every initiative at HCL is conducted or organized with the environment in mind. We

believe every organization can play a major role in reducing hazards to the

environment, and which is why HCL has joined the national movement of businesses

and organizations that are leading the fight against global warming by aligning with

Carbonfund.org, one of country's leading carbon offset organization.

The result was that HCL's Global Customer Meet 'Unstructure', organized in

November 2008, was a carbon-neutral event as we compensated for the emissions

by purchasing carbon credits, which were split equally into carbon offsets of

Reforestation, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

Advancing further into our Go Green initiative, the event was taken as an incentive

to plant more than 650 oak trees in 2.8 acres of land in Champawat district of

Uttarakhand. The scarves presented to the guests at the GCM were made from

"Peace silk", which is called so because it is drawn only after the oak silk worm

moth has emerged, with no harm befalling the silk worm itself.

Our employees walk hand in hand with us in making the organization green friendly

by organizing plantation drives across the country, and working with organizations

like Green Peace to create awareness on green issues. It is a conscious decision

taken by the employees to reduce paper usage, save energy and cost by switching

off lights when not required and print only when necessary, as an effort to drive the

green movement within the organization.

Employee volunteer programs

We believe that employees are the real value creators who can make a difference

not only to the organization but their collective effort can change the society itself.

The Community Service Council at HCL Technologies (CSR) is an initiative driven

entirely by employees and completely supported by the management. With over 500

events organized in the last one year, the council is by far the most active of

councils in the organization.

The aim of the CSC council is to improve, guide and inspire the underprivileged

people, through various assistance programs, and by working with many NGOs and

charitable organization. As the Chinese proverb says 'Buy him a fish and you will

feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you will feed him for life'.

HCL School Intervention Program: Right to good education is the basic

right of every child and SIP is an effort to give life to this belief. Holistic in its

scope, over 100 volunteers reach out to 800 students from different schools

to conduct classes in basic subjects like English, Mathematics and

computers, and carry out health & hygiene and environment awareness

programs. Other than this, personality development programs, summer

workshops and vocational trainings courses are also organized for these

students.

Teach @ Office: It is often said that charity begins at home but, at HCL,

social responsibility begins at office. Through this initiative basic awareness,

knowledge and skills were imparted to over 250 guards posted at the various

HCL facilities with the aim of improving their quality of life, increase their

awareness levels and empower them to work better.

Child Rescue and Rehabilitation program: The program is designed to

provide voluntary help to rescue and rehabilitate children who are affected

by various forms of abuse and are in need of rehabilitative support. In the

Bangalore initiative, for example, over 170 employees work closely with the

Ministry of women and child development, NGOs like Bosco, Apsa & Child

Right Trust and the Bangalore police to conduct field visits and organize

awareness programs. Till now over 60 children have been rehabilitated.

Fund Raising Events and collection drive: HCL works with more than 10

NGOs and Self Help Groups like Goonj (a resource mobilization initiative for

the underprivileged), Scope plus (working with destitute women), Srijan

(working for the welfare of the Tihar Jail inmates) and Petals (working with

specially-abled people) to promote causes we strongly believe in, and help

these organizations raise funds by organizing bazaars and collection drives at

various HCL facilities. In the last one year, employees have raised nearly Rs.

1.25 lakh to support these causes.

Encouraging the specially-abled: The initiative is aimed at helping the

specially-abled individuals to earn their livelihood and lead a normal life. As part

of the program, couple of kiosks have already being set up at our facilities in

Noida and Gurgaon, which will be followed by similar set ups across the country.

CUSTOMER RELATION MANAGEMENT

It costs five times more to acquire a new customer than to retain one. HCL

Losing Loyalty: Lack of usage of loyalty card primarily by younger generation

Complex data: no personalized spend incentive to over 3Mn high spending

customers

Dividend scheme not used for 3 yrs leading to deviation of the core co-

operative values of profit sharing and decrease in co-op movement

HCL’s Solution

transaction either by swiping them or bar code scanning them or keying the

loyalty card number

Bar-coded coupons in the form of Key Fobs & Mobile Stickers mailed to

Health cares

In today's information age, the consumer is seeking to manage her health by being a

participant in the care process - not just a passive recipient. This growing trend of

participative healthcare requires that the consumer (or patient) be made aware of her current

and foreseeable health status – a proactive approach to lifestyle management.

With information being made available in real time, proactive patients who seek to

participate in their health management can be offered personalized and predictive

care that in turn ensures better economies in the entire value chain. Welcome to the

new age of healthcare – the HCL point of view.

HCL understands that such an elastic and relevant healthcare management requires

significant modernization in the way the industry participants-pharmaceutical

companies, healthcare providers, and insurance payers manage information and

comply with constantly changing regulations.

Our healthcare practice is designed to offer the pharmaceuticals, providers, and

payers domain expertise-driven information management, compliancy solutions, and

future-ready business process optimization.

Retail and Consumer

HCL partners with leading retailers across the globe, giving us key insights into the

challenges and business issues faced by them. HCL's Retail and Consumer Packaged Goods

(CPG) vertical delivers an end to end array of services across the retail value chain from

Vendor Management, Planning, Supply Chain activities to Store and multi-channel offerings.

Our involvement in the industry has ranged from Improving supply chain efficiency,

streamlining store operations, managing merchandise, maximizing customer loyalty to

conceptualizing, building and managing eCommerce capabilities. This is apart from HCL's

documented strengths in offshore based IT services for the Retail Industry - Application

Development and Maintenance, Assurance, Implementation and enhancement services across

new and legacy technology platforms. Our leadership in business led IT solutions for Retail &

CPG is evident from the fact that AMR research rates HCL as a leader in Retail offerings and

which 7 of the world's 35 largest retailers, 10 of the world's 70 largest and 4 of India's top 5

retailers agree with.

Operating on minimal tolerances, the retail industry faces challenges similar to

those in other industries. The only difference is that they combine together to put a

great deal of pressure on retailers in today's modern economy. With a fast-paced

society and faster-paced technological changes, customers want new, different, and

customized goods and that too without delay. The critical risks that the retail

industry is facing today are:

Shortening product life cycles

Managing multi channel operations

High demand volatility

Extended supply chains

Production offshoring

Increasing lead times

Pricing pressures

Lost sales and brand erosion due to stock outs

Highly competitive and margin sensitive industry

At HCL, we understand the challenges and the risks a retailer faces in this emerging

world of seamless trade. As a solution to these problems, we provide end-to-end

order management solutions encompassing customer management, order

management, location management, purchase management, pricing/discounts, and

billing/invoicing.

We have been involved in providing the entire spectrum of service offerings to our

Retail and CPG customers - Improving supply chain efficiency, streamlining store

operations, merchandising, customer solutions, eCommerce lifecycle price

management, enterprise solutions, RFID and product lifecycle management.

Travel and Transportation

The travel segment, including but not limited to airlines, airports, travel

intermediaries, cruise liners and car rentals, is today witnessing an upturn. In the

past two years, the industry has seen a steep decline in passenger demand, a wild

ride of fuel costs and capacity management issues, putting huge pressure on

companies to manage costs.

Passengers today want quicker and better services at cheaper costs. Hence, it

becomes imperative for travel companies to provide differentiated offerings,

enabling greater market share.

We at HCL are committed to the travel business by applying technology at the

forefront of Customer Experience. With a focused approach towards the pertinent

business processes in the industry, we look at partnering with our clients to achieve

optimum value from technological investments. We aim to maximize ROI by

mapping processes to applications, infrastructure and databases, thereby

eliminating redundancies and cost overrun.

Our significant investments in the travel industry have enabled us to develop

solutions, accelerators, methodologies, and frameworks addressing unique

functionalities to help our customers rise above competition through improvements

across key performance parameters like R/ASM and Load Factor with key focus on

Customer Experience.

HCL also understands that every industry within the travel segment is unique, yet

related. Therefore, our aim is to synergize yet understand the uniqueness with

which these segments operate.
