A casement window

(or casement) is a window that is

attached to its frame by one or more

hinges. Casement windows are hinged

at the side. (Windows hinged at the

top are referred to as awning windows.

Ones hinged at the bottom are called

hoppers.)

They are used singly or in pairs within

a common frame, in which case they

are hinged on the outside. Casement

windows are often held open using a

casement stay.

The double-hung sash window

has been the most popular choice

among owners of California homes for

generations, and for good reasons:

this classic window type is easy on the

eyes and the most durable operating

system available. Made to order,

windows by Wooden Window are

crafted to match the existing windows

in a building, even those in older

homes that may have settled.

Currently most new Double-Hung

sash windows use spring balances to

support the sashes, but traditionally,

counterweights held in boxes on either

side of the window were used.

These were and are attached to the

sashes using pulleys of either braided

cord, or later, purpose-made chain. In

addition crafting extraordinary Double-

Hung windows, Wooden Window

is an expert in tuning, restoring and

replacing sash mechanisms.

An awning windowis a casement window that is hung

horizontally and hinged on top, so that

it swings outward like an awning.

Awning windows can be installed

above or below picture and casement

window bays to provide additional

ventilation and architectural depth.

They open a room to the outside, bring

in sunlight and can be operated with a

variety of latches.

A hopper window

is a bottom-pivoting casement window

that opens by tilting vertically, typically

to the inside–usually for ventilation.

Hopper windows are a favorite in

schools, but are a good choice for

interiors with high ceilings and tall

window expanses, or above other

window types. Mounted above a door,

Hopper windows are often called

Transom windows.

A bay window

is a multi-panel window, with at least

three panels set at different angles to

create a protrusion from the wall line.

Bay windows are a wonderful way to

extend a room outward to pull in light

and expand access to views.

Bay windows make room spaces

appear larger and more brightly lit. By

extending the interior space outward,

beyond the perimeter wall, bay

windows open a room to the outside.

The window bay itself extends the

floor line and creates additional space

that can be used for window seats,

cabinetry and storage.

The angled sections of the “bay” can

be configured to create round, square

or polygonal profiles and made up of

fixed, sash or casement windows.

A picture windowis a large fixed window in a wall.

They can be created of a large, single,

uninterrupted sheet of glass, or be

divided up into any number, shape

and size of lites (sections divided by

mullions).

Double and triple pane insulated glass

can be used to make even very large

picture windows energy efficient.

Picture windows provide a sweeping,

unimpeded view, as if, yes, framing a

picture.

An arched window

is a a window whose top edge forrms

an arc.

Arched windows can be opertated as

a single unit, or divided into sections,

with each section using a different

method of operation.

Arched sections are often used as

fixed, or operable, transom windows

over doors.

Bent windows

are just what the name suggests –

windows that can be fit to curved

walls, either by using bent glass or

by tracing the curve with flat window

“facets”.

Wooden Window is one of the only

companies that can fabricate true bent

windows using most types of glass

configurations — tempered, laminated,

double and triple pane insulated.

Pivot windows

are either vertical pivot or horizontal

pivot. Pivot windows are easy to

reach from the inside for cleaning and

maintenance because the sash rotates

180 degrees.

They offer controllable, draft-free

ventilation that can be directed by

pivoting the window(s) much like the

air vents in an automobile.

Gothic is actually

an architectural style specific to a

particular historical period in Europe,

but the shape of a gothic window is

familiar to most of us. The gothic style

in architecture saw a revival during

the 19th Century and it’s been with us

ever since, often in churches or other

ecclisiastical buildings.

It is seen today in window units that

steeply arch upward and meet at an

angle or sharp point at the center.

The Tilt and Turn window opens in two ways: swing it

in like a casement window or tilt the

top of the sash inward (similar to a

Hopper Window) for ventilation. Both

operations are typically controlled by a

single handle.

The Tilt and Turn is a great window

for emergency exit access and easy

cleaning.

The Cieiling Lens Windowis typically a Fixed/Picture window at

the top center of a room which brings

natural light to an area during the

daytime (reducing the need for artificial

lighting during daylight hours).

Cieling Lens Windows can be made

in any shape and any glass type or

configuration.

Telescoping Windows

offer the clean look of fixed fenestration

while allowing individual window units

to be pushed open for ventilation.
