How to lay bricks like a pro

Adding PRO Mix MORTAR to Sand & Cement creates a mortar

that’s very workable and consistent. You can even add colour if

you want to. Building a brick wall or fence is so much easier with

PRO-Mix. Just follow the simple steps and that wall will be up in

no time!

STEP 1 Pour one bag of Sand and Cement into a wheelbarrow and add one pack of PRO-Mix MORTAR

additive. Make a hollow and add 3 litres of water per bag and mix well. If required, add additional water (up to 1

litre per bag) to create a workable mix. Remember – too much water ruins good mortar.

STEP 2 Apply the mix with a trowel. Allow the mortar to stiffen to touch dry before attempting to rake or finish

the mortar joints.

REMEMBER Only mix as much mortar as you can use within one hour. EXCESSIVE WATER weakens the mortar;

only use enough to make the mix workable.

RE-TEMPERING the mix with additional water will weaken the mortar. Do not allow the mixed mortar to stand for

an extended period of time.

OXIDE ADDITION: If you’d like to colour your mortar follow the instructions on the back of packs of Cement

Australia oxide products.

Tips to lay bricks & blocks like a pro

Only mix as much as you can use in 1 hour

It’s easier to mix mortar with a hoe or mattock than a shovel

If the mortar starts to stiffen, don’t add more water. That only weakens the mortar

It’s better to make smaller batches until you get used working with mortar

Wait for the mortar to stiffen to touch dry, before raking or finishing the mortar

joints.
