“GROVER JACKSON”

From the earliest beginnings until the present day, Jackson Guitars is known for its slender, elegant

designs, and feature aggressive motifs that are popular with hard rock and metal musicians. But what

are the beginnings of these guitars? Who is the man behind JACKSON?

Jackson is a famous brand of electric guitar that derives its name from its luthier as well as the founder,

Grover Jackson.

Grover has been making guitar since 1937. He started working at Wayne Charvel’s guitar repair shop in

Covina, California in 1978. The shop was almost bankrupted that the owner decided to sell it to Jackson

which gave Jackson the control of the business. Eventually, he launched the Jackson brand wi th the

Randy Rhoads model.

Although Jackson and Charvel Guitars has become popular with the rise of hard rock and heavy metal

music in that era, Grover Jackson sold the Jackson/Charvel brand to the Japanese manufacturer IMC

(International Music Corporation) of Fort Worth, Texas, in 1989, and eventually left the company in

1990.

Thereafter, Jackson decided to work at Washburn USA in Chicago in which he models “Chicago MG” and

“Mercury” were advertised as his design. He also worked with Dimebag Darrel and other manufacturers

throughout the late 1990s to 2000s.

In 2012, Gover Jackson co-founded his own guitar brand, GJ² Guitars in Orange County, California. His

partner in this business venture is former Fender Senior Vice President Jon Gold. Grover Jackson

maintains his lifelong commitment to the high quality USA made guitars. Majority of these guitars

feature authentic superstrat design.

With GJ2 Guitars, Grover Jackson is back. After 35 years of experience and experimentation, he’s still

pushing the limits of what a great guitar can be, as only Grover can.

Jackson’s story of guitar business venture is a tale of win and loses. However, like any other tales,

there’s a happy ending. Jackson still embarks leverage in the market.
