GUSTAV KLIMT, Kiss, 1908
IconsTHE WORLDS LARGESTCOLLECTION OF PAINTINGSBY GUSTAV KLIMT
In 1908, shortly after its completion, Gustav Klimts Kiss was acquired by the Belvederes predecessor institution, the Moderne Galerie. Nowadays, every year hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the globe flock to admire this fin-de-sicle icon from the Golden Period of Austrias most famous artist. It was rumored in contem-porary circles that the work represented Gustav Klimt and Emilie Flge. In addition to the Kiss, the Belvedere houses pivotal Klimt paintings, such as Judith, Fritza Riedler, and Sunflower, as well as many fascinating land-scapes depicting the Attersee lake and its surroundings in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut, where Klimt spent almost every summer from 1900.

Winter PalaceA UNIQUE BAROQUE JEWEL IN THE HEART OF VIENNA
Originally built as a stately residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy, then acquired in the eighteenth century by Empress Maria Theresa before being used as the court treasury and later the Ministry of Finance, this Baroque jewel is now, once again, a center of art and culture. From October 2013, the key rooms in the state apartment at Himmelpfortgasse in Viennas city center are to be transformed into an exhibition venue for an artistic encounter between the Baroque interior, the Belvederes collections, and contemporary art in an international context.
