Thank you all for your time and service!

CLUB LEADERSHIP 2015 Members

As I write to you, a hint of fall and college football is in the air. This time of year is an exciting sports time and represents that time of year when many great memories are

waiting to be made here at Greystone Golf & Country Club. One of the most exciting events was the recent opening of our new World Class Fitness Facility along with treatment areas and childcare service. It is a great time to start those New Year’s resolutions early. We have also initiated demolition of the lower level and are on schedule for an April 2016 opening of the new Restaurant & Bar. Check out the renderings on page 3.

In the coming months, we will enjoy Thanksgiving and the 12 Days of Christ-mas followed by a celebration of the New Year. I hope you and your family will have the opportunity to fully enjoy all that the incredible staff have planned for us during this busy holiday season. Don’t forget to make reservations early for all events by calling 986-5120.

Reflecting upon 2015, Greystone experi-enced a great deal of exciting and promis-ing change that will shape our Club on the Path to Premier. Mr. David Porter joined as our General Manager, Chef André as the Executive Chef and Mrs. Lynette Roberts as our Director of Catering. All of these individuals bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will be crucial to our success.

I would like to extend a personal thank you to a number of individuals who have worked tirelessly to support Greystone on our journey. Your Board of Directors, Dr. Jeff Clifton, Mr. Rod Fuller, Mr. Al Del Greco , Mr. Russ Hale, Mr. Scott Peters, Mr. Matt Scalici, Mr. Terry Smith & Mr. Ron Stanfa. I also want to offer a special thanks to those Board members who are completing their terms: Dr. Jeff Clifton, Mr. Al Del Greco, and Mr. Rod Fuller.

The Committee Chairs also devoted a great deal of their time and efforts to serve the Club in 2015. They are: Building & Grounds – Mr. Brad Rosenwald and Joe Verciglio, Membership Marketing – Mrs. Janice Folmar, House Committee – Mr. Scott Ferguson, Swim, Tennis & Fit-ness – Mrs. Jennifer Johnson, Golf Committee – Mr. Jim O’Brien, and Greystone Foundation – Mr. Scott Stone.

The Board, Committees and Management also owe a tremendous thanks to all the members for supporting the Club, suggest-ing ways to improve while inviting and welcoming new members. Without an engaged and supportive membership, Greystone Golf & Country Club would not be the terrific place that we cherish.

This is also the time of the year when the membership will elect a new President-Elect along with several board positions to replace those who are rolling off. I want to encourage each of you to engage in the election process and vote as the Club is truly ours… We own it and we should be actively engaged in choosing the leader-ship you want directing your Club in the coming years on our Path to Premier.

It has been my honor and privilege to serve the membership as President this year. Cathy and I want to wish everyone a terrific Holiday Season and Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing all of you at the Club soon.

Dear Members,

I hope you are having a great fall! I have learned quickly that during the fall season, Saturdays become our slowest day of the week. Reviewing the SEC football schedule is the start to planning a successful Club calendar!

In November and December we have some amazing Club events for you and your family to enjoy. We have Champagne Putting for the Ladies, Glow Golf, Beer-Bourbon-Cigars, and Thanksgiving Dinner to go or at the Club, and the new 12 Days “events” of Christmas. You will be receiving a separate brochure about the 12 days “events” of Christmas by mail and hard copy available at the Club.

I hope you have experienced an improvement in our dining service over the last month. The staff has worked extremely hard with weekly training semi-nars to make consistent improvement. They are all committed to improving and want to deliver a top notch dining experience.

Each department has developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Now the department heads are meeting with their respective staff and re-viewing the SOPs, Raving Fans actions to be implemented into their stand-ards and teaching the staff how to create positive memorable experiences for you and your guests. Every day we make progress toward improvement.

I hope you are enjoying the new Fitness Center! We are so proud of the way it turned out and the increased usage we are seeing on a daily basis. There are a few punch list items to be taken care of and we continue to evaluate the class schedule for member usage and enjoyment. The massage services have been popular to date. The childcare is off to a slow start, so if you are interested in the service, please participate in the online survey.

The new Restaurant is progressing well. The demolition and initial plumbing work is complete. The framing has begun and we will be moving along on schedule to our opening on April 1, 2016. Please see the following page for a sneak peek at the renderings of the new space. I hope you can visualize yourself sitting in the new space enjoying great food, drink and company.

Our Annual Membership Meeting is scheduled for November 17 at 6:00pm in the Founders Clubhouse Main Dining Room. Please plan to attend and enjoy a buffet to follow. We will be sharing the Staff and Board vision for 2016 and beyond.

2015 has been a year with a lot of change for Greystone. You have been through several construction projects, new leadership among the staff and several changes from it. As we turn the corner on a new year, 2016 will bring higher levels of service, consistent quality, fun, and the completion of the Restaurant, as well as the Regions Tradition. It makes me feel like the kid in the Disney commercial that cannot sleep because he is so excited! All my best wishes to you and your family for a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season!

A note of thanks to all Members who have supported the membership efforts at the Club this year by sponsoring new Members, playing golf with prospective members and for those who served on the Membership Marketing Committee. A special thanks to Janice Folmar for her leadership and support throughout the year. I appreciate each one of you who served! We have a beautiful Club but it takes connections with members like you to get our new Members integrated with the Club and feeling like they belong. We are continually looking for Ambassadors so please let me know if you would like to join us!

Strong growth in Membership benefits our Club in many ways, but it is particularly important to our financial health. Initiation fees, capital dues and operating dues all contribute to the ongoing programs, services and amenities that provide value to our Members. It is also a key driver in determining the dues of every member each year. Our goal has always been to have net positive growth – to bring in more members than leave us. But next year we have a much more aggressive plan for Membership growth and we will need your support. I encourage you to get involved by inviting a neighbor or friend to visit the Club. We offer a “Member for a Day” program for prospective new members to experience the Club and I would be happy to arrange this if you’ll call to let me know.

We have an Open House specifically for prospective new members coming up on Thursday, November 12th. If you have a friend that you’d like to bring, please call to let me know.

Thank you!

As 2015 comes to an end, our inaugural year at the Greystone Performance Center has been full of success stories for our students and instructors. We’re especially excited to announce that these successes were acknowledged in the 2015-16 Golf Digest top teacher rankings when Greystone was the only Club in the state to have two instructors ranked in the top 10. Brian Speakman made the list this year at #7 which we’re extremely proud of, a testament to his hard work and dedication to be the best instructor he can be. Blackburn Golf Founder and our very own Director of Instruction Mark Blackburn was for the third time voted #1 and the “Best in State” so we are now definitely on the map as a premier teaching center. With the addition of advanced club fitting, golf schools, and guest instructor retreats in 2016, we’re confident all of your instructional needs will be fulfilled at the Greystone Performance Center powered by the Blackburn Golf Academy. The Performance Center allows us the opportunity to offer “Off Season” training away from the elements beginning December 2015 running through March 2016 when the spring golf season begins. The four month program will be periodized to have your game peeking in late March. We will offer training, practice and instruction both in indi-vidual and group settings. This program will be offered during the evenings, some afternoons and on the week-ends to accommodate a variety of working schedules. The program will feature Blackburn Academy Instructors and Greystone Fitness Staff working in synergy to maxim-ize your golf performance. Please see Mason, Brian or Mark for details or follow the @bg_performance @blackburngolf Twitter feeds for more information.

Our afterschool program will begin in November offering kids an athletic development style golf program aimed at improving physical literacy for all sports (speed, strength, agility, coordination, power, flexibility, endurance) and golf skills. Blackburn Golf Instructors will offer this program on a Tuesday at Legacy from 3-5 and a Thursday at Founders from 3-5. The program will run through the school year and be complemented with summer programs during school holidays. You will be able to sign up for this in the Golf Shop at either Legacy or Founders or by calling the Performance Center. We’re also excited to begin an outreach program with Greystone Elementary School where Blackburn Golf Instructors will be teaching SNAG and aspects from our afterschool program inside the school. Developing and nurturing juniors is a key mission for both Blackburn Golf and Greystone. In an effort to optimize the fitting experience for the membership we’re centralizing the fitting process at Legacy beginning in November where we plan to offer a variety of Original Equipment Manufacturers, OEM products available for folks to test and get fit. We have expanded our Titleist lines and the Blackburn Golf Academy is now a regional fitting center offering an extended line of Titleist and Scotty Cameron products. Our expert fitters, the latest fitting technology and competitive pricing means you never need to look outside the Greystone gates again for your equipment needs. As the holidays approach, if your looking for a unique Christmas gift please know we can help you create that special something for someone with a combination of equipment and/or instruction. We would also like to thank everyone for their loyalty and support during 2015 and wish you a safe and prosperous 2016. We hope to see you at the Performance Center soon. Contact the Instruction Staff (205) 986-5152.

If you are using the facility for a personal training session, choose the personal training option. If you are just working out on your own, choose the workout option.

Use the fitness facility 20+ days in a single month and you will be acknowledged as a member of our Stone Fit Club. Receive this acknowledgement for 3 consecutive months and receive a free Greystone Stone Fit Club T-Shirt (photo to the left)!
