Dear fellow Members,

WOW! What a cold and unusual winter. It has made it hard to utilize our club. Here’s hoping spring arrives early and with a bang!

However, the cold has been good for one thing. It has allowed the Strategic Planning Committee and the Board to work hard on finalizing the strategic plan and its implementation. We are excited about this time in our club’s history and look forward to announcing our strategic plan and other great news at the Town Hall Meeting on April 9, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. in the Founders Main Dining Room. There will be many details to discuss, so I hope you will plan to attend this event.

Once spring arrives, we have a full calendar with numerous exciting events. Legacy Late Nite will return on March 21, 2014, and continue through the summer on Friday nights. The Ladies SEC Golf Tournament will return on the weekend of April 18, 2014. This is our second year of hosting this event, and we look forward to building on our first-year success. This is a great event and we are hoping to get as many members involved as possible. Please come out and support your favorite SEC school and see the future LPGA players.

As our main recruiting event for spring, we will bring back the Passport Program, a 45-day trial membership for prospective new members. Please encourage any of your friends who you would love to see join the club to participate in this program. See page 5 for further details.

As always, the success of our club depends on you. We try hard to provide food, service, and events that are second to none for your fun and enjoyment. Please come out and support these events and give us your feedback on how we can make the events better going forward.

I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Dear Members,

I only thought that last year’s cold and rainy season in January, February, and March was an aberration... yes, I was wrong

again! Despite the weather in which we have no control, I am extremely excited about Greystone.

During the snow issues in January, many members and residents went out of their way to help fellow members & residents, the Greystone staff, and even strangers with shelter, food, and travel. The Greystone community is extraordinary with helping others!

Chef Daniel Mitchell and the Food & Beverage Team were featured on the cover of Club & Resort Chef to Chef magazine! What a great honor for Daniel and his culinary team.

The comprehensive Strategic Plan Committee will be reviewing Greystone’s future in a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Founders Main Dining Room. All Members and spouses are encouraged to attend this important meeting.

Congratulations to Director of Golf Instruction Mark Blackburn on his Team Titleist honor as one of the Top 100 Teachers in America.

MVP’s. Greystone’s associates have created a Mission, Values, and Principles (MVP’s) that will guide our daily decision making, standards, and how we take care of you! Each staff member will be provided a card listing the MVP’s and will refer to it daily to complete their tasks.

CMAA World Conference Update. In February, I had the privilege to attend the 87th CMAA World Conference and Expo in Orlando, Florida. The conference brings 2,500 managers and 500 students from around the world to participate in continued education for club managers. Over fifty hours of education and classroom seminars are the key component over the five days. There is a cautious optimism about the future of private clubs.

The SEC Women’s Golf Championship returns to the Founders Course April 18-20, 2014. This is the second year of four consecutive years that the SEC will be at Greystone. Your support through volunteering and viewing is what makes Greystone special.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pfrimmer as they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary at Greystone!

The congratulations continue as Mr. and Mrs. Jim Roy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Greystone on January 18th!

Have a great spring season at Greystone!

Dear Members,

TABATA vs HIIT: What is the Difference?

Regardless of what you call it, the goal is to get your body active and enjoy the activity. However, since Tabata has received a lot of media attention as a time-saving workout with astonishing results, it’s a good idea to understand the basic principles behind this type of training and what you can and can’t expect. Before you attempt Tabata, you probably need to have a decent baseline of fitness. Here is a table that summarizes the difference between Tabata & other HIIT methods.

Flexibility Programs

Did you know tight muscles and/or fascia is the #1 reason people hurt? Let the fitness pros help you. We can start by assessing your body movement to determine which muscles are tight or inhibited and then focus on designing a stretching routine specifically for your needs. Meet with a Greystone trainer 2-3 times per week for no more than 20 minutes and you will surely feel a huge difference in the way you move.

Personal Training

Train two times per week one-on-one with a Greystone trainer for 6 weeks for the price of 5! Only $300 for 12 sessions and receive a fitness evaluation. Call us now! This offer is only available to the first 10 people who purchase. Purchase for yourself or for a significant other.

Dear Members,

The PGA show was quite the experience as this was my first time in several years to attend. There were

over 1,000 companies that had golf related and non-golf related products on hand. Just the sheer size of the complex is massive covering over 1 million square feet of the Orange County Convention Center with over 483,000 square feet of interactive exhibit and demonstration areas that we covered in a matter of just three days. Some might even say that it is overwhelming. The PGA Merchandise show has become a global gathering place for every component of the golf industry.

For many Golf Professionals including our staff, it’s a time to see what is new and get “show pricing” on things that we generally order throughout a calendar year. The PGA Professional attendance grew by 5 percent, while the overall industry attendance dipped slightly by 5 percent to total more than 41,000 PGA Professionals, from all over the US and over 81 countries were represented. “Beginning last year, we worked hand-in-hand with the PGA of America to engage more PGA Professional participation, often on a grassroots level attending PGA Section and Chapter events, and the results have further strengthened the PGA Merchandise Show as the world’s largest gathering of PGA Professionals,” said PGA General Manager Ed Several.

The Golf Channel broadcasted the event for more than 12 hours each day. They provided many inside looks at the different products and had a product of the day and showcased those on the morning news and the lifestyle show. David Feherty hosted two live performances in front of sold out audiences on January 21st and the 22nd. Daily video and blog reports are available on www.PGA.com and the daily PGA Shows News.

The demo day is sure to be a crowd favorite with over 7,000 PGA Professionals visiting Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge. The invited retailers tested the latest products from 100-plus golf equipment, training aids, performance wear, and golf accessory companies. The outdoor event also featured five 60-minute Instructional Workshops presented the game’s top teachers including David Leadbetter, Mike Malaska, Dana Rader, Stan Utley and Suzy Whaley, who provided insight into becoming a world class teacher, instructor, and coach to today’s golfer.

As you can see, the PGA Merchandise Show is action packed, and a lot goes into making the show better every year. There are countless hours that go into this event from all different ends of the golf business. If you were to walk this entire event, you would have walked over 10 miles. There are many learning opportunities and great values. The PGA Merchandise Show is a must see event even if you are not a Golf Professional!

All the best this spring,

Head Golf Professional [email protected] 986-5127

Dear Members,

So Much to Choose From…

As we all come out of hibernation from the frigid, dreary winter this year, most of us are likely anxious to get out on the golf

course, and enjoy some nice weather for a change. With springtime, comes a whole new assortment of products from all golf manufacturers. This year, TaylorMade has launched 20 amazing new products. With so many options out there, from brand to brand, not to mention, from line to line within each brand, most of you probably feel somewhat con-fused if you are considering upgrading the equipment that you are currently playing. The first question that would come to mind is, who is this designed for, and how can it benefit me? We hope to answer some of these questions below, as we discuss some of these amazing new products…

SLDR Driver – Designed for higher swing speed players with high ball flights and high spin rates. Helpful to people who over draw or over fade the ball. Available in lofts from 8* to 14* with additional 1.5* of adjustment meaning the driver can be adjusted anywhere from 6.5* loft to 15.5* loft. Most players are finding they need an extra 2* of loft compared to what they are accustomed to playing due the way the club is designed. FOR THOSE WHOM FIT INTO THIS DRIVER, IT IS A GAME CHANGER…

SLDR 430 Driver – Designed for higher swing speed players with high ball flights and high spin rates who like a smaller more traditional look (clubhead is 7% smaller) and drive the ball fairly straight. Available in lofts from 8* to 12* with additional 1.5* of adjustment.

JETSPEED Driver – Designed for lower swing speed players with lower ball flight. Very light clubhead and the first driver featuring the “SPEED SLOT.” One of the hottest faces in the game, great for people with who need more “pop,” due to lack of clubhead speed.

SLDR Fairways and Hybrids – Designed for higher swing speed players with high ball flights and high spin rates who hit their metalwoods and hybrids well. Adjustable lofts and face angles to fit the player’s eye and performance. Speed slot technology in a smaller, teardrop shaped, traditional looking head.

JETSPEED Fairways and Hybrids – Designed for the players needing more forgiveness on metalwoods and hybrids. Larger clubhead with larger sweetspot. Features the “Speed Slot” and an improved, more traditional aesthetic than previous offerings. Hybrids have offset, making them more conducive to players that tend to block or fade.

SPEED BLADEZ IRONS – Designed for players looking to maximize forgiveness, raise shot trajectory, adds distance and consistency to their iron shots. Heads feature offset, so it is conducive to players that tend to block or fade. Improved aesthetics and softer feel over previous game improvement irons produced by TaylorMade.

TOUR PREFERRED IRONS – These are available in 3 different versions, a muscleback blade (MB), Muscle CavityBack (MC), and Cavity Back (CB). The MC is a forged blade designed for professional caliber ball strikers. These are the most cosmetically beautiful set of irons TaylorMade has ever launched. The MC is a players iron that is FORGED, but has both the Speed Slot and perimeter weighting, making it a forgiving option, despite the traditional, smaller aesthetics. The CB is designed to add more forgiveness with more perimeter weighting, while also featuring more offset (for players that block or fade) and the Speed Slot. It is a great option for players liking a more traditional aesthetic, but still needing some game improvement features.

14

Page 17: Greystone GCC March & April 2014 E-Newsletter

TOUR PREFERRED Golf Balls – This version comes in a standard version and an “X” version, which spins less and flies lower. Quite simply, if you play the ProV1 or the ProV1X, do yourself a favor, and test a sleeve of one of these new balls. We guarantee you will pleasantly surprised by what you find. Tour Pros, and equipment testers with all major golf publications agree this is the best Tour Caliber ball that TaylorMade has ever produced, and many feel it outperforms the tried and tested ProV franchise that has long been the gold standard. Hello Members,

I’m delighted to call Greystone the new home of the Blackburn Golf Academy. To those of you I’ve already met, thank you for making me feel so welcome and to those of you I’ve not yet been lucky enough to meet, I hope our paths cross soon. As your new Director of Instruction, the club has entrusted me to build upon the strong instructional foundation our

Instructor Emeritus Hank Johnson has built at the club for the last twenty plus years. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside Hank as he continues to be an important part of the teaching and coaching at Greystone moving forwards. Our contrast in teaching styles and approach will blend beautifully to develop the best instructional program possible for you, the Greystone membership.

With the goal of improving the overall level of play for you, we are excited to be introducing a new approach in the deliv-ery of instructional programs at Greystone. You will see a paradigm shift to a variety of coaching programs offered weekly and year round. We’re excited to roll out these new programs Monday March 3rd. From child athletic develop-ment to elite amateur and aspiring tour players, all of our programs will combine the latest teaching and coaching phi-losophies with the newest learning technology.

As we’ve all seen in other athletics, the sport science world is becoming more and more integrated with the modern game of golf. As such, new ideas and technology have allowed us to expedite the learning curve and improve perform-ance in the game we all love. To this end we’re excited to implement some of these techniques with our new coaching programs beginning Monday March 3rd:

Velocity / TPI Junior • PGA Junior League • Junior Performance Program

Elite Junior Development • Men’s Biggest Loser Club • Ladies Bootcamp • Team Titleist VIP

These coaching programs will be overseen by Greystone Director of Instruction, Mark Blackburn. Daily coaching will be given from Blackburn Golf Certified Instructors, Mason Dennis, Brian Speakman, Scott Hassee, Darrell Ward and Blackburn Golf Associate Instructors. Please view the www.greystonecc.com and www.blackburngolf.com websites to get the latest information on these programs and times available.

In addition to the other programs, we will be hosting biweekly Aimpoint Green Reading classes to understand which way putts break, and why. Putting is simply an understanding of tilt and time!

With the new Aimpoint express read accurate and proficient green reading is literally within hands reach.

Ever wondered how good the best ball strikers in the world really are and how you rate in relation to them? Well, with the Trackman Combine you can now work through a standardized test over 60 balls from 60 yards through the driver to tell you exactly that. Trackman is one of the biggest game changers in the golf industry since the video camera, and can positively impact your game whether you’re a beginner or a PGA Tour Player.

Please follow BlackburnGolf.com on Twitter @blackburngolf and Facebook @blackburngolf for the latest updates on coaching sessions, clinics and classes. We look forward to helping you with your game soon.

Sincerely,
