What Is Global Warming?

Definition of Global Warming:  Gradual increase in the earth's surface temperature.

What are the greenhouse Gases? Water vapor Carbon dioxide Methane Nitrous oxide Ozone CFCs

The Kyoto Accord

The Kyoto protocol is a system of reducing all greenhouse gas emissions in each country that signs the treaty.

The countries that are green, are the countries that have signed and complied with a majority of the laws set by Kyoto. Those in red, have left the accord, and those in yellow and grey have not yet signed.

World Wide Laws on Global Warming

U.K: the only law that the United Kingdom abides by, is the Kyoto accord.

The United States are driven by state laws that differ from state to state, but not by Kyoto. The Americans have dropped out of the Kyoto protocol, and are doing emission dropping on their own. Sadly, the U.S.A is up 15.8% since 1990 on their emissions.

The Stars of KyotoRed Star: Canada.Canada has failed to attempt to meet its Kyoto goal, and Stephen Harper believes that he will find a new plan that will compensate, and do better than Kyoto in Canada. We left Dec.15 2012.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kalHHWLOyUA 2min.

White Star: The United Kingdom. The U.K has reduced emissions for Kyoto at an outstanding rate of 58.8% since 1990. That is the highest reduction in the world.

The Black Star: India. Those in the country of India have increased their emissions by an amazing 55%. That is over half as much pollution as before.

The Canadian Environmental Network

The CEN works with the Canadian laws that have a say in what goes on in the environment and with climate change.

The CEN relates to the Kyoto accord through the climate change department.

The Green Paper:Energy and Climate Changes The green paper is a paper that is describing

how the Canadian Environmental Network would adjust the way that Greenhouse gases are limited, and how the Kyoto protocol is enforced.

The main reason for having the CEN is to prevent all extremes of climate change, and energy losses.

2012 Environmental Review Process Changed Responsible Resource Development

Initiative One project --- one review --- defined time Assessments will be done by the provinces

except mega projects 2 year time limit Remove duplication Only those with a direct interest may be able

to take part in the hearings Could limit groups / organizations from

participating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uneKgpUfsn0 cbc 2:29

Lobby Groups There are three Lobby Groups: Oil Industry Lobby Group - They are funded by a lawyer from Washington Mr. Horner, receiving

more than 1.3 million dollars - They give PowerPoint's around the nation – informing people what’s

happening with Kyoto and there views on the EU. Farmers Lobby Group – They have reserved it’s opposition to the signing of the Kyoto

agreement to Control greenhouse gases. - To be the first agri – political lobby group. - They have written him encouraging the Prime Minister to sign the

agreement. Construction Lobby Group - The European Construction Forum.

- The construction industry makes up 40% of energy consumption. -This is also making more greenhouse gases.

Lobby Group Disband

There was one lobby group that was disband in the 1990’s by George Bush when he took out US in Kyoto.

The Global Climate Coalition It emphasised the uncertainties and climate

sciences. It disputed the needs of taking action.

“The industry voice on climate change has served it’s purpose by contributing to a new national approach to Global Warming.”

Page 15: Greenhouse Gases and Global Warming mid

Activist Groups The activist groups, including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth,

Oxfam and Action Aid.

Issued a report calling for cuts in greenhouse gas emissions far more stringent than those called for by the international global warming treaty known as the Kyoto protocol.

They also want industrialized countries to subsidize poor countries’ adaptation to global warming to the tune of $73 billion per year, a sum on par with what industrialized countries now pay in subsidies to their domestic fossil fuel industries, according to the report.

Greenpeace and company now want greenhouse gas emissions to be cut by 60-80 percent from 1990 levels cuts that would probably be economically devastating to the developed world.

Altering Greenhouse

The biggest alter we can do is CHANGE THE WAY WE LIVE!

Simple things like: walking, taking the bus, using solar energy for your home, cars, cut down on energy as best as we can
