Hart Prairie Lodge is on the National Register of Historic Places and from 1892 to 1901 served as the first stop on the tri-weekly stage run from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon. At the Conservancys Hart Prairie Preserve youll be surrounded by thousands of acres of cool forest and meadows. Uncommon wildflowers, old-growth ponderosa pine, a rare grove of Bebb willow, elk, prairie dogs and more than 40 species of birds will be your nature-companions. Listen to the wind in the aspens, climb Fern Mountain or sing along with the birds. Its all there in the clear mountain air. If youre up to it, extend your vacation with a walk among the cliff dwellings and pueblos at Walnut Canyon National Monument. Or explore the Arboretum at Flagstaff in the Coconino National Forest. The Arboretum is a research and environmental education center and home to 2,500 species of plants, historic buildings and a nature trail through the Ponderosa pine forest. ST. CROIX ADVENTURE: FLY-FISHING WITH THE EXPERTS
Enjoy some of the best that summer has to offer during an expert-guided fly-fishing float on the scenic St. Croix River. A professional guide will help you hook smallmouth bass while drifting in a Mackenzie style boat on one of the most natural and pristine sections of the river, near Grantsburg, Wisconsin. The St. Croix is a designated wild and scenic river. Its well known for great smallmouth bass fishing and some muskie action wouldnt be surprising! Your trip will be led by Chuck Moos, former Board Chair of the Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota Chapter of The Nature Conservancy; along with an expert guide from Grantsburg Associates, an historic and private fly-fishing club located on the banks of the St. Croix. Enjoy a mid-day break for a shore lunchand maybe a siesta? Bring your binoculars for great birding. Fly-Fishing on the St. Croix is an excellent opportunity for some quality time for two! This will be catch and release fishing.
