Ancient Greek art, architecture, and

writing.• Greek life was dominated by religion, and they made beautiful temples for their gods.

• Greek architecture is well known for the beautiful temples raised to glorify their gods and goddesses.

• The Greeks created beautiful sculptures in the shapes of humans and gods.

• Art forms consisted mostly of sculptures made from marble and limestone

Major Greek gods• Aphrodite – Goddess of love, romance, and beauty.• Apollo – God of the sun, light, medicine, and music.• Zeus - Supreme lord of gods, god of the sky, symbolized by the

thunderbolt. • Demeter – Goddess of agriculture.• Poseidon – God of the sea, horses, and earthquakes.

Trojan War• The trojan war was the greatest conflict in Greek mythology.• a conflict among the goddesses started the Trojan War. This conflict

led to the famous story of Paris awarding a golden apple to the goddess Aphrodite. In return, Aphrodite promised Paris Helen, the most beautiful girl.

• Troy lost the the Trojan War because the Greeks were able to sneak warriors inside the city by means of a giant, hollow, wooden horse.

Famous Heroes

• Hercules - Grew up to become the hero who beat the bad and evil, performed amazing, often helpful tasks. He was very strong.

• Achilles – Was the Greek’s best warrior in the Trojan War.• Odysseus – Willy hero of the Greeks. He came up with the idea of

the Trojan Horse. He was also one of the few Greeks to reach his homeland of Ithaca, after 10 years of war and 10 years of difficulties

at sea.

Famous Monsters

• Cerberus - 3-headed hound of Hades.• Medusa - known for her snaky-hair and her ability to turn men into

stone. • Scylla – A sea monster.• Sirens – seductive female creatures whose songs lure people to their

deaths.
