GREASING PROCEDURE

1. Wipe grease from pressure fitting and remove any dirt and debris

2. Remove the grease relief plug

3. Add Grease

4. Operate motor for 30 – 40 minutes with grease relief plug removed (some recommend up to 2 hours)

5. Re-install grease relief plug

OVER GREASING

More grease may create churning which generates additional heat As the grease temperature rises, its viscosity decreases and becomes thinner. This can reduce the lubricating effect while increasing leakage of the grease from the bearing. It may also cause the grease components to separate, causing the grease to break down. Also, as the bearing heats up, the grease will expand somewhat and be purged from the bearing.

However, in low speed applications where temperature is not an issue, the housing can be entirely filled with grease. Thissafeguards against the entry of contaminants

LEVEL OF OIL MAINTAIN IN BEARING HOUSING

The housing is designed to provide a sump or reservoir that the bearing rolling elements rotate through.

Generally, the oil level is no higher than the center point of the lowest rolling element, as measured when the bearing is stationary.

EFFECT OF EXCESS OIL

• People believe more grease or more oil is good but actually it is wrong X

• Excessive grease or oil quantity may cause internal friction between rolling parts, which generates excessive temperature that can create stress and deformity of the bearing.

• Damage the oil seal
