Subject description: Physics is fundamental science. It deals with the behavior and the structure of matter (Giancoli, 2005. Physics, 5th ed). For grades 7-10, the general topics force, motion, and energy are subdivided in the following areas:

Motion Fluids Heat Sound

Light Electricity Magnetism

Objectives: (adapted from K12 Curriculum Sequence of Domains/Strands per quarter) At the end of the course, the grade 10 students should be able to:

have a comprehensive understanding of balanced and unbalanced forces describe how balanced and unbalanced forces affect movement, balance, and

stability of an object acquire more knowledge on the properties of light and uses of light in optical

instruments explain the principles behind generators and motors using the concept of moving

charges and magnetic fields

Time allotment: 6 hrs/week

Grading components: Written work- 40%, Performance Tasks-40%, Quarterly Assessment- 20%

energies of the different regions of the spectrum

uses of the different regions effects of EM radiation on living

things and the environment

Light reflection of light in mirrors refraction of light in lenses

- image characteristics: orientation, type, location, magnification

- ray diagram- optical instruments

Electricity and magnetism electromagnetic effects

- magnetic fields in current-carrying conductors
