Applications are invited from the candidates for Boiler OperationEngineers examination under the Boiler Operation Engineers' Rules, 2011 to be heldin AugustlSeptember,2013. The Examination will be held at Hyderabad. The exactdates of written and oral examinations will be intimated later.

The candidates possessing the following qualifications are eligible toapply.

AGE: Should have completed 23 years of age as on 31.05.2013.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Degree or Diploma' in Mechanical or Electrical orChemical or Power Plant or Production or InstrumentationEngineering from a recognized institution.

SERVICE: Must have served for noUess than Two (2) years in caseof Degree holders and five (5) years in case of Diplomaholders as on 31.05.2013, in the operation and/ormaintenance of a Boiler of not less than one thousandsquare meters heating surface or a Battery of Boilers ofnot less than one thousand square meters heatingsurface in aggregate out of which at least one Boiler ofnot less than five hundred square meters heating surface.However, for degree holders or post-graduate diplomaholders from a National Power Training Institute,requirement of minimum working experience shall be oneyear.

EXAMINATION FEE: RS.1500/- (Rupees one thousand five hundred only)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING ANDHRA PRADESH BOILER OPERATON ENGINEERS

EXAMINATION APPLICATION FORM

1. The applications may be collected in person by post by sending requisition alongwith serif addressed envelop stamped Rs.10/- from The Chairman, Board ofExaminers and Director of Boilers, Plot No. B-5; Durgabai Deshmukh colony,Shivam Road, Hyderabad ~ 500 007

OR

Alternatively application may be collected in person from Subordinate Offices of theBoilers Department at Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Eluru, Vijayawada,Guntur, Nellore, Tirupati, Kurnool, Nalgonda, Warangal and Karimnagar.

2. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

i. Age: Shall not be less than 23 years as on 3'1.05.2013.

ii. a) Qualification and Experience: Possesses a Degree or Diploma inMechanical or Electrical or Chemical or Power Plant or Production.orInstrumentation Engineering from a recognized Institution.

b) Has served not less than two years incase of Degree holders and for fiveyears ** incase of Diploma holders in Operation and / or Maintenance of aBoiler of not less than 1000 Sq. Meters heafing surface or a battery ofBoilers of not less than 1000 Sq. meters heating surface in aggregate outof which at least one Boiler is of not less than 500 Sq. meters heatingsurface.

** However degree or post graduate Diploma holders. from National powerTraining Institute requirement of minimum working experience is one year.

The service after acquiring the required qualification only will be counted forthe purpose and as on 31.05.2013.

3. Mode of Examination:

The Examination is conducted in two parts viz Written Examination followed by vivaVoce. There will be three papers of Written Examination in BOILER I, BOILER IIAND DRAWING subjects each with a maximum of 100 marks Viva examination withmaximum of 100 marks will be conducted after the Written Examination SyllabusforExamination will be as per Annexure!.

For award of certificate of Proficiency a candidate shall secure at least 45percent in each written paper as well as Drawing ad oral Examination but theaggregate should not be less than 50 percent.

BOILER OPERATION ENGINEERS EXAMINATIONS

EXAMINATION FEE: Every application must be accompanied by a treasury original challanof Rs. 1500/- paid under the Head of Account II 0230 - Labour andEmployment: 103-fee for Inspection of Steam Boiler; 01- Fee forInspection of steam Boilers." & under 000 code XXXX-1505 001 inany treasury in Andhra Pradesh, State.

Note: The Treasury code, in which the candidate is paying fee shall beindicated in the place of XXXX in 000 code.

COMMON INSTRUCTIONS:

1. a) An attested Xerox copy of SSC Certificate should be furnished for proof of age.b) An attested Xerox copy of Degree/diploma should be furnished for proof

qualification. (. The originals should be produced at the time of oral test forverification)

2. A service certificate in prescribed proforma as per annexure-II duly signed by theBoiler Owner or user should be furnished in original.

3. A certificate physical fitness should be submitted along with application in the formenclosed. -

4. Three copies of a recent pass port size photos of the application must accompanythe application with applicant's signature and attestation of a Gazetted officer onbank side of photos.

5. Any person making a false statement of the purpose of admission to the examinationrenders himself liable to prosecution.

6. Incomplete applications are liable to be rejected.

7. Applications received after the last date will not be considered.

8. Incase of candidates from other States, they should produce II NO OBJECTIONCERTIFICATE" from the Competent Authority ( i.e. Chief Inspector of Boilers/Directorof Boilers) of the respective State.

9. The fee will not be refunded under any circumstances. However, in case of rejectedapplications, the board may' decide that the candidates shall be admitted to anysubsequent examination held with in one year without payment of fresh examinationfee if he finds eligible.

10. This office will not take any responsibility for postal delays.

11. The filled in applications should be sent to The Chairman, Board of Examiners andDirector of Boilers, Plot No. B.;5, Durgabai Deshmukh colony, Shivam Road,Hyderabad - 500 007 along with 2 Nos. of self addressed 10" x 5" size envelopswith Rs.5/- postage stamp affixed on each. Annexure ISYLLABUS FOR EXAMINATION

A candidate in order to be qualified for a certificate of proficiency under these rules, shall, interalia, satisfy the examiner that he-

(a) Can calculate loads, area, volumes, quantities and weights;

(b) Can give description of the principal types of steam boilers used on land and to state the purposeand reasons for which different types of boilers are employed; and from the data and formulaesupplied, calculate the safe working pressure for any part of a'boller in accordance with the IndianBoiler Regulations;

(c) Can calculate the direct stress, the torsional stress and the bending stress in round bars and shaftsand the bending stress in rectangular bars and levers with given load;

(d) Understands the working and management of steam boilers, super heaters and economizers;

(e) Understands the use and purpose of various valves, cocks, mountings, fittings and other safetydevices;

(Q Can give a description of and explain the functions of feed pumps, feed injectors, feed regulators,feed water filters and softeners, feed heaters, air heaters, calorifiers, steamaccumulators, forceddraught, induced draught and automatic draught control devices;

(g) Can answer questions on fact relating to combustion, heat and steam and calculate consumption ofcoal and water and quantity of steam that may be generated from a given heatingsurface under thevarious system of draught, in any land boiler and also calculate the overall efficiency of boiler plant;

(h) Can explain jet and surface condensation, reheating and theworking of steam expansion;

(i) Can explain the general methods employed in laying foundation for boilers and chimneys and thesuitable area and height of chimneys to promote efficient combustion;

G) Can explain the significance of principal appliances in use for the prevention of smoke and theprinciple on which they work and given description of the principal mechanical stokers, pulverisers,gas, oil and pulverized fuel systems in use;

(k) Understands the need for periodical cleaning, the methods used for prevention of scale or otherdeposits on heating surface and the necessity for maintaining a certain PH value in feed water;

(I) Can detect defects in boilers and state the means and methods of rectifying them;

(m) Understands the precautions to be taken for starting a boiler and economizer from cold or frombanked fire condition;

(n) Understands the procedures to be adopted in putting an economizers out of commission while theboiler is on steam;

(0) Can explain the methods adopted for the achievement of fuel economy and the use of variousinstruments used in a boiler House;

(p) Materials used in Boiler components and piping and;

(q) Can read and prepare a working sketch and drawing of boilers and boiler mounting or parts thereof.
