PRESIDENT’S PAGE .

Our Wood show is now only a few weeks away or should that be days away. The hot days have certainly slowed down work in the Workshop, early mornings or late nights to avoid the hottest part of the day are the go. Raffle Sales are going ok, up in some areas and on par in others, all we can do is what we can. The Raffle roster has had several changes already, days changed at I.G.A., members times changed members unavailable , but I will try to contact all members prior to their duty times. If I have left you off the Raffle roster or the Woodshow duty roster please let me know. The invites that I sent out to Invited Demonstators have been slow in coming back (10 at the 6th Feb) We are having a problem with Taxis as far as picking up Julie-Ann and Darren on a Tuesday so i have been to Connect GV to talk to those in charge and they have taxi problems at their own front door. Have notice on White Board with mobile Nos to ring if you have any problems. Thursday 15th is the first day at Riverside Plaza, so if you have items that can go on display, with cards please please bring them along, your items are secured away at night. WE WILL HAVE A GREAT WOODSHOW LEN.

COMMITTIEE BUISNESS: Letter from Lindsey Summary of issue so far – refer to Sep, Oct and Nov Minutes. Lindsey: Suggestion to standardize to $2 first hour, $3 for 2 hours, $4 for 3 hours. Lindsey is mainly worried about morning attendance. Response:

Daytime attendance was dropping well before fee change. Vern polled approx 10 members who are regular workshop users, all were happy with the fees. It is not fair to charge different fees for mornings vs evenings. Vote at the annual general meeting was 22:2 for the fee changes. Fees must be set at the AGM. Fee changes would need a Special General Meeting. Supervisors have the power to set charges, if necessary. The Raffle is no longer a viable method to subsidise the membership or show. The club needs to be financially viable. The fees should have been raised a long time ago. This is a membership issue, not a fee issue, we need positive ways to attract new members, and positive ways to encourage day time members. The Fees remain the same, the supervisor has discretion to set charges.

5% Commission Some members have approached Geoff saying 5% a bit steep, can we cap it at a $50 limit? Response:

Not fair for the members with fewer items. Just raise your prices a bit to cover the 5%. $50 means you've sold $1,000 of items, with just $50 to the club. The Show needs to pay for itself.

Letter from Bob in the newsletter Raffle Ticket Sales – Bob prepared to walk Benalla rd to help sell tickets, anyone want

to volunteer to accompany him? Moving the show to October – Oct 27th and 28th at the Macintosh centre, Shepparton

Rung, Emailed, etc. How many members have not rejoined? About 10 have not paid, but also not resigned.

Vern – Recycle Revival, great advertising for the club. Should we run a few workshops for recycling pallets?

7

.

Lindsey – In response to Bobs questions published in the newsletter. Went to Old Library in 1997, workshop fees were $1 if you used a machine, Packham

St in 2010, Workshop fees set to $2. Sub have been $40 since the club was founded.

We have a reserve of $60,000 because we sold $160,000 of raffle tickets over the 27

years, less about $1000 in costs, which is a surplus of approx. $130,000. We spent about $15,000 on the Mechanics Institute doing it up, and about $10,000 for machinery.

Spent over $20,000 on doing up Packham St, plus more machinery. We only get $1000 for subs. Only way to balance the book is the raffle. October Woodshow – Are we competing with other events? Shift closer to Xmas so

people buy presents. Late Nov clashes with other events, Macintosh Pavilion is half the price. Bob keen to operate the Kitchen to sell food and make money. Talk to the Gem club? It’s roughly the same size as Eastbank, but in 2 halves, won’t be able to fit them in. Can drive in, load/unload Newsletters – Paul to get via email, rather than hardcopy. Please let Robert know if your email has changed.
