Fred E. McIntosh Leonard T. Walsh (18832969) The entire Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists was saddened to learn of the death of Leonard Theodore Walsh on Nov. 19, 1969, in Pueblo, Colorado. Dr. Walsh was one of the charter members of the Rocky Mountain Society and served as its president in 1939 and 1940. He had retired from active prac- tice in May, 1959. Born in Chambly, Quebec, Canada, on July 5, 1883, he received his D.D.S. degree in 1907 from the University of Buffalo and a few years later moved to Denver, Colorado. Dr. Walsh’s orthodontic training was principally from Alfred Paul Rogers of Boston, L. M. Waugh of New York, Oren A. Oliver of Nashville, A. L. Johnson of New York, and Herman Becks at the Denver Seminar. He was certified by the American Board of Orthodontics in 1939. He was also a member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Ortho- dontists. Dr. Walsh, along with J. Lyndon Carman and the late Archie E. Brusse, was instrumental in developing the electric spot welder. He was one of the true pioneers of modern-day orthodontics. He was a faculty member of the dental school at the University of Denver in 1913 and 1914, and he was elected a Fellow in the American College of Dentists in 1939. He served as chief dental surgeon at the Corwin Hospital in Pueblo from 1917 to 1939. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta fraternity and a thirty-second degree Mason and Shriner. Dr. Walsh is survived by his wife, Eileen Lynch Walsh of Pueblo, and a son, Robert Walsh, formerly a colonel in t,he United States Army Dental Corps, who is now teaching at the University of Oregon. technic Institute, where he was an outstanding athlete. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1933 and from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1937. He finished his graduate study in orthodontics at Columbia University in 1941.

While at the University of Maryland, Dr. Pugh was named to the All- American Lacrosse Team for the years 1931, 1932, and in 1933. National recog- nition was given him when he was elected to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. A bronze plaque will honor Dr. Pugh in t.he Lacrosse Hall of Fame Museum at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Pugh served in the United States Army Dental Corps from 1942 until 1946. He was a major when he received his discharge.

He conducted an orthodontic practice in Easton and in Salisbury, Maryland, from 1946 until 1966. During this time he was Chief of Dental Services at Easton Memorial Hospital. He also was associated with the University of Mary- land in a teaching capacity in the Dental Hygiene Department.

His professional memberships included the American Association of Ortho- dontists, the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists (of which he was a charter member), the American Dental Association, the Maryland Dental Association, and the Eastern Shore Dental Association.

Dr. Pugh maintained membership in the “M” Club at the University of Maryland and the Somerset Chapter of the National Society of Magna Charta Barons.

Surviving are his wife, Emily Wright Pugh, and two daughters Mrs. E. Bayly Orem, Jr., and Mrs. Thomas J. Flagg.

Donald J. Harrison (1909~1970) Donald J. Harrison of Boise, Idaho, died suddenly on Feb. 19, 1970, while

vacationing with his wife in Mexico City. Born on May 12, 1909, in Spokane, and reared there, he was a graduate of

(ionzaga University and received his doctor of dental surgery degree from Xarquctte University in 1934, after which he specialized in orthodontics at the Univcrsitp of Illinois. He married Dorothy Ilouise Sartori on Aug. 4, 1.937, in Spokane. He practiced in Craigmont in 1939 and 1940, and he became Boise’s first orthodontist when he arrived in 1940.

Don had a deep concern for children with cleft palate or cleft lip, which led to his holding “one-man clinics” throughout Southern Ida.ho. It was largely at his suggestion, and with his assistance, that the team approa.ch to the cleft lip and palate problem was started in Idaho.
