Page 2: Goonawarra is G.R.E.A.T!sheets, towels, linen, doonas (manchester), toys etc will be appreciated. On this day Southern Cross Recycling Group will have a truck at school between 8.15am

Many families have taken the opportunity to join with their children in the celebrations that have filled the week. Over 350 members of our school community attended the Slumber Party on Tuesday evening. Nearly all the staff and students were in their PJ’s as well as many parents!

If any parents have feedback from the various activities throughout the week, I would love to hear it. Talk to me or email your thoughts to [email protected] LITERACY & NUMERACY WEEK AWARDS: Year Level Spelling Champions:

DAD’S BIG DAY OUT: What a great turn out! There were over 50 Dads and Grand Dads at Assembly on Monday! It was wonderful to see so many who were able to attend. Their participation in the reading of Dr Seuss quotes was outstanding! Many Dads were able to stay at school and assist in classrooms with their children. Thank you to everyone who was able to make this day a priority in your very busy schedules. It was greatly appreciated by everyone!

LAST WEEK! The Woolworths Earn and Learn Program is back again. To support our school to earn new

educational resources simply shop at Woolworths and receive one Earn and Learn sticker for every $10.00 spent. Sticker sheets can be collected from the school. Once your sheet is filled bring it to the school and we will add it to our online total. The more stickers, the more resources will be coming our way. The Program closes this Tuesday 8th September. RESEARCH INVITATION: Our parent community has been invited to take part in a research project to be conducted by RMIT University in partnership with The University of Queensland. The research project is titled ‘Profiling the experiences of parents of children with and without disabilities.’ If you would like more information on how to volunteer for this research, contact Karen Reilly. GREAT BOOK SWAP: The Great Book Swap continues in the

library tomorrow from 8:30-4:00 pm.

FATHER’S DAY STALL: Thank you to the members of the Parents & Friends who organised a great range of items for students to purchase from the stall for Father’s Day this Sunday. The students are always very excited about their ‘shopping spree’ opportunity! All profits this year are going towards improving the outside facilities for the students. PREP 2016 TRANISITON SESSION No. 2 Today our 2016 Preps came to school for their second Transition Day. They had a great time in the Art Room. So far there are 50 Preps enrolled for next year. At this stage we are planning for three small Prep classes – 17 students per class. If you are aware of anyone who has still not enrolled their pre-schooler and you would like to recommend our school, then please ask them to contact the office ASAP. CLEANING UP?

Here is your chance to pass on all those unwanted items around the house. All excess clothing, footwear, handbags, sheets, towels, linen, doonas (manchester), toys etc will be appreciated. On this day Southern Cross Recycling Group will have a truck at school between 8.15am – 9.30am. Families will be able to bring their unwanted / preloved items to school in the blue bags which were given out today. More bags are available from the office. Use other bags if necessary. If you are unable to bring the bags in on the 15th September, bring them to the office before this date – please not afterwards. The collection will assist-

Families to get rid of unwanted items without

going anywhere.

Needy people, both here and overseas to get items

they would never have been able to afford.

The school to make money for new projects!

If the collection day is successful, other dates will be arranged.

CAMP AUSTRALIA IS COMING! As from the start of Term Four, Camp Australia will be running our Before & After School Care Program. They will be offering a great program for all students, which will be well resourced and conducted by fully qualified staff. Fresh fruit and vegetables will always be available to the students. The hours of the program will remain the same – start at 7am, finish at 6pm. The location will be the same – mainly in the gym and on occasions the library and computer lab. The cost per child will be less than the current rate. Flyers from Camp Australia are available from the office or visit their website at www.campaustralia.com.au or phone them on 1300 105 343. CAN YOU ASSIST US?

Many gardens around the school need weeding.

Families are encouraged to select their own area

and make a fun activity out of it. Tools are

available from the school during school time or

feel free to come in on the weekends with your

own equipment.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS FUNDRAISING:

We are running a SPRINGTIME fundraising drive to raise

funds for outdoor chairs and tables, and we need your

help and support. Each family has been given a small

carry bag of 5 vegie growing kits and 5 flower growing

kits to sell for $6.00 each (total cost of $60 per bag). We’ve

chosen this product to promote healthy, family-friendly

fundraising. Our drive will run for two weeks and we ask

that all monies and unsold bags (10 kits) are returned by

Wednesday 16th September. All families who sell a

complete kit go into a prize draw! Thank you for your

support. We are grateful for your involvement in helping
