CONTRIBUTORS ...........................

Ahoy there Good Vibrations readers and on-lookers from afar! So, summer is now upon us and it’s seriously time to cast your minds to festivals either here or abroad. We interview the organizers of Beat-Herder; an endearing festival in the heart of the Lancashire coun-tryside. They tell us more about the festival and the red carpet of frolicking good times that will be rolled out in front of us.

As you know Good Vibrations has been hav-ing monthly nights in the Lemon Lounge every 3rd Thursday of the month but is hav-ing a break now until September. We review some of the previous ones to give you an insight into what to expect come September when there will be a fresh explosion of hot-volcanic-Good-Vibrations-club-night-magma splattering the city. Check out where these explosions are in the coming months where we preview the club night.

For all your ladies out there, we give you an insight into the workings of Bullet vintage clothes shop on Hardman Street. It’s an in-stitution for things of an unusual and quirky nature, so head down there to look the belle of an exquisite ball. Also, a new happening of a dance school has arisen in a warehouse type building down Victoria Street way. It’s all on the down low at the moment, but get involved with them in the future if you want to develop your dancing skills!

So until next time, have fun and be happy!

Madhatters Kingdom ShowOn Thursday the 16th of April, the creative hub that is Madhatters Creative Wonderland launched their new dance and drama academy with a night of celebration, surprises, madness and mayhem. It was all held in the exclusive surroundings of Liverpool’s own Kingdom bar. The evening was filled with talent of the highest calibre with short plays, dancers and fashion runway shows. Using some of Liverpool’s finest young talent there were stand out performances from young dancers Eve Slater and Sammi Waterson. As audience member Natasha Trafford said: “The evening was very entertaining; I particularly enjoyed the Pokerface and Let It Rock dancers. I’ve now signed up to partake in the dance classes on a weekly basis. I feel that the event held by Madhatters was a success and I’m really looking forward to the next one.”

As well as the superb choreography by founding member Kayleigh Marie Griffth, there was a huge amount of talent involved in the short plays, with scripts written by another founding member, Rebecca Storm Bretland Hill. Each short play showed off some raw young talent with the less experienced actors and actresses easily holding their own with the local stars (Kris Mochrie, Jack McMullen and Chelsea Farrell). “As I’m a regular theatre goer, I thought the standard of the acting was at the top end of the spectrum for young developing talent in our beloved city of the Liver bird. I was particularly fond of the line “Jog on ginger” and was blown away by the professionalism of everyone involved in the evening. I think this is a great opportunity for the young people in society to shine” said Kate Edwina Landrum.

This evening was supported by local retailers Resurrection and Boudoir Boutique, which allowed us to have a sneaky peak at next season’s fabulously colourful collection modelled by fresh new facers from BananaFish Management. I myself feel that the night was a huge success and it went off with no delays or hiccups, in turn I had a lovely time. If you feel you have a talent that needs to be exposed or an enjoyment of performing arts, Madhatters will provide you with the platform to do so. Thurs 19th March 2009Lazyfader, MC Soom T, Streetpunk Drunks, Ocksen and Xed plus Danjah P @ Lemon Lounge!!

Out and About

So another monthly installment of Good Vibrations at the Lemon Lounge; this one was certainly going to be a raucous one and so it proved. There was evidence of a hotpot of contrast-ing styles that Betty out of Corona-tion Street might have conjured up (not that I watch soaps much). In the hotpot was punk from the Streetpunk Drunks, metal from Ocksen and live hip hop mastery from Warrington crew, Lazyfader. First in the hotpot mix were the Streetpunk Drunks, who blasted off like a rocket into to some punk. Dressed in traditional fare, they quickly assembled some old-school Rotten-esque punk. At one tongue in cheek moment, one of the girlfriend’s of the band got summoned to take a jaunt downstairs to get a pint, which she reluctantly did.

Potato wedged in between acts was guest MC from Glasgow, Soom T. Soom T is a veteran on the MC circuit, having worked with a whole host of big names, her flows were dynamite over explosive dubstep and hip hop breaks supplied by the evergreen Simon Keat. The thing about Soom is her lyrical content and flow is so dynamic and different to all other MCs. It was a joy to behold, seeing her bring the crowd together in streams of dancing crescendos.

If Ocksen rehearsed near a residential home then they would be complained about within two minutes, with their throttling metal music.

They made my ears bleed and my heart jump the long jump five times over in shock factor. A big up to the drummer, who was so fast that he made me dizzy! Call the paramedics!

Now onto the highlight of the night, a new hip hop crew on the live circuit, Lazyfader. Lazyfader are a hip hop group, with solid beats, scratching, live bass and drums. The MCs are sure talented too. The most memorable part of the night, was the impromptu jamming session that ensued when sound engineer for the night, Keith Thompson, filled the breach of guitar and a terrific jamming session involving all the MCs really got the crowd grooving. This was as spontaneous as they come, which you don’t get often enough in live music venues.

The night was brought to a swirling climax by Xed and Danjah P provid-ing their take on the current drum and bass tunes which are smashing it big on the scene. There wasn’t a static waxwork in the place.

All in all a top night, one which is gaining stature with every hotpot that Betty makes!
