Good Pharmacy Practice in Spanish Community Pharmacy: Protocol Development Aguilar J, Amaro L, Lopez-Torres R, Recio C, Perez R, Varas R, Megía C, Martín L. In 2011, the Joint FIP/WHO Guidelines on Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) recommended national professional organi- sations to develop specific guidelines and standards on GPP. Though in 1995 and 2008, Spain developed guidelines on GPPs and Quality Assurance, in November 2012, the General Pharmaceutical Council decided to create Working Group on GPPs in Community Pharmacy in Spain (WG GPPs) in order to develop guidelines and specific operating procedures for community pharmacy. By the time being, the following documents have been developed and approved: Dispensing of Medicines and Medical Devices Service (July 2014). OTC Dispensing Service (Minor Ailment Service) (July 2014). Medicines Review with Follow-up Service (July 2014). Pharmacovigilance Activities and Prevention of the Entry of Falsified Medicines (July 2014). Acquisition, Custody and Conservation of Medicines and Medical Devices (January 2016). Withdrawals, Shortages, Emergencies and Warnings Management (January 2016). Services and Activities for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (January 2016). Dissemination of Information about Medicines and Health Related Issues (January 2016). Medicines Waste Management, Expiry Dates and Returns (February 2016). Guidelines on Good Pharmacy Practice in Spanish Community Pharmacy (July 2013). GENERAL GUIDELINES PROTOCOLS BACKGROUND INFORMATION The evolution of community pharmacy required an update of applicable standards. Both the General Guide- lines and the protocols respond to the functions commu- nity pharmacists need to conduct in order to allow the evolution of Community Pharmacy and ensuring at the same time, the professional standards are met and, ulti- mately the Good Pharmacy Practices in Community Pharmacy. CONCLUSION The main objective of the WG GPPs was to produce a Guideline on GPPs adapted to the current pharmacy practice, population needs and particularities of the National Health System and, at the same time, to develop operating procedures for the roles, functions and activities identified in the guideline. PURPOSE The WG GPPs comprised representatives of four Provincial Pharmacy Chambers (Barcelona, Cádiz, Gipuzkoa, and Zaragoza), the University of Granada, the Spanish Society of Family and Community Pharmacy (SEFAC) and the Pharmaceutical Care Foundation. The work within this WG GPPs was organized through periodic face-to-face meetings and the exchange of documentation/comments by e-mail between members. In 2011, the Joint FIP/WHO Guidelines on Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) recommended national professional organi-sations to develop speci�c guidelines and standards on GPP.

Though in 1995 and 2008, Spain developed guidelines on GPPs and Quality Assurance, in November 2012, the General Pharmaceutical Council decided to create Working Group on GPPs in Community Pharmacy in Spain (WG GPPs) in order to develop guidelines and speci�c operating procedures for community pharmacy.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The evolution of community pharmacy required an update of applicable standards. Both the General Guide-lines and the protocols respond to the functions commu-nity pharmacists need to conduct in order to allow the evolution of Community Pharmacy and ensuring at the same time, the professional standards are met and, ulti-mately the Good Pharmacy Practices in Community Pharmacy.
