Michaiah hears the reading of Baruch and tells the princes and nobles – ( 36:11-13).

The princes and nobles send for Baruch to hear the words of Jeremiah - (36:14-15).

They react with fear and insist that the king must hear these words – (36:16).

They tell Baruch and Jeremiah to go and hide - (36:19).

When Jehoiakim hears of the writing, he commands Jehudi to read it – (36:20-21).

After the reading of three or four columns, king Jehoiakim cuts up the scroll and throws it into the fire - (36:22-23).

A few men try to stop the king - (36:24).

The king then tries to arrest Baruch and Jeremiah but the Lord protects them -(36:26).

7How Do We Respond To God’s Word?

The words of scripture are to be understood as being the very words of God – (Jer. 1:4-9; Heb. 10:15; 2 Pet. 1:20,21; 2 Tim. 3:16,17; 1 Cor. 2:13).

How precious and valuable is the “Book of Books?” – (Psalm 119:97-104)

THE PRODUCT OF GOD

8How Do We Respond To God’s Word?

For all the people - (36:6,10).

To warn them – (36:2,3). That they may turn from

their evil way – (36:3,7) That they may be saved

from destruction – (36:3,7)

The purpose of the Gospel – (Eph. 3:3-5; 1 Cor. 4:14; Acts 17:30; Rom. 1:16; Is. 55:11)

FOR THE PURPOSE OF GOD

Michaiah . . . heard all the words of the Lord - (36:11).

Michaiah went and told others – (36:12,13).

They desired to learn more – (36:14,15)

They believed with fear and told the king – (36:16)

They tried to protect God’s messengers – (36:19)

10How Do We Respond To God’s Word?

Like The Thessalonians (1 Thes. 1:5-10).

They received it as the word of God – (1:5; 2:13)

They became followers – (1:6; 2:13,14)

They told others – (1:8) They turned from sin – (1:9) Received salvation – (1:10)

SOME WILL RECEIVE IT

11How Do We Respond To God’s Word?

Jehoiakim king of Judah sends for the word of God - (36:20,21).

The king destroys the word of God – (36:22,23).

The king and his servants have no fear or respect for God’s word – (36:24,25; the opposite of his father Josiah, 2 Kings 22:11-13)

The king commands Jeremiah and Baruch be seized – (36:26)

SOME WILL REJECT IT

12How Do We Respond To God’s Word?

Men have repeatedly rejected the word of God - (Mark 7:9; Acts 7:51,52; Acts 13:46).

Men are still rejecting the Word of God – (1 Tim. 4:1-4; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; 2 Thes. 2:1-12). Traditions of men Corrupting the

Scriptures Latter day revelations Liberalism

13How Do We Respond To God’s Word?

MAN CAN’T DESTROY IT

14How Do We Respond To God’s Word?

MAN CAN’T DESTROY IT

Unbelief doesn’t change the fact that God’s word is true – (36:27-29; John 17:17)

Men reject God’s word at their own peril - (36:30,31; Deut. 18:19; John 12:48-50).

God’s word will last forever - (Psalm 119:151,152; Isa. 40:8; Luke 21:33; 1 Pet. 1:25).

MAN CAN’T DESTROY IT

Rome failed – The Catholic church

failed - Islam failed – The critics failed – Modernist have failed –"Hammer Away Ye Hostile

The Anvil Of God's WordLast eve I passed beside a blacksmith's doorAnd heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;

When looking in, I saw upon the floor,Old hammers worn with beating years of

time."How many anvils have you had," said I,"To wear and batter these hammers so?""Just one," said he; then with a twinkling

eye,"The anvil wears the hammers out, you

know."And so, I thought, the anvil of God's Word,For ages, skeptics blows have beat upon;Yet, though the noise of falling blows was

heard,The anvil is unharmed - the hammers gone.
