Introduction

Hello and welcome to Go Green Week 2010!

This plans to be an action packed, fun filled week looking at some of many aspects of ‘Going Green’. We’ve got film screenings, talks, demonstrations, stalls, bike rides, bike fixing, Co-op re-launch and much, much more. So check out the exciting line up and do come along, learn something new, and have a good time!

Monday 22nd MarchMeat-free MondayAll day, campus wide

According to the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization, livestock production generates nearly a fifth of the world’s greenhouse gases — more than transportation.

‘A kilogram of beef is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution than driving for 3 hours while leaving all the lights on back home.’ Cutting down you meat and dairy consumption is one of the most effective carbon-saving actions an individual can take.

Meat Free Monday is a campus wide publicity campaign to highlight the environmental impacts of meat, and encourage people to cut their carbon ‘foodprint’ and keep this Monday Meat-Free!

CAN Film FestivalNo entry fee, all you have to do is bring your cans as admission and collect money for charity

Don’t Be CRUDE12.00-14.00pm, Southlands Chapel

Come join us for the showing of film CRUDE - a documentary raising awareness about the Chevron-made oil disaster in Ecuador, and learn about the reality of our oil! The event is also hoping to raise money to help fund getting the directly impacted community members to Chevron’s annual shareholder meeting in May. Bring a fairtrade cake to sell to raise money, or donate either on the day or directly to Amazon Watch.

AGE OF STUPID18.00 – 19.30, Duchesne 004. Followed by optional workshop and discussion

Getting together to watch this much acclaimed movie, followed by a workshop and discussion. The Age of Stupid is a 2008 film by Director Franny Armstrong (McLibel, Drowned Out).

Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated future world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance? The production was notable for its innovative way crowd-funding financing model, as well as the Indie Screenings distribution system which allows anyone anywhere to screen the film.

The film was released in 2009 and became one of the most talked-about films of the year. It also spawned the hugely-successful 10:10 campaign.

Donations towards the license fee to screen this film would be greatly appreciated!

TUESDAY 23RD MARCHP&P take over the lawns/Southlands BarCome join us on the lawns over the afternoon for some P&P style fun, food and flag making.Followed by a night of folk and alternative music down at Southlands Bar!
