Andy Biffen, Hidd Power Company, Bahrain Executive Managing DirectorAndy has 28 years experience with the development, acquisition and operation of power generating facilities. During his career, he has focussed mainly on International IPPs and IWPPs in regions including; Asia, Australia, USA, Europe and UAE. Andy studied Energy Technology at Aston University, UK and started his career with the Central Electricity Generating Board (UK Power Utility). Since then, he has worked for National Power plc, International Power plc, Innogy plc and ReEnergy Group plc. Andy joined Sumitomo Corporation in 2008 and is currently the Executive Managing Director (EMD) of Hidd Power Company, located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. (Sumitomo Corporation has held a 30% investment in Hidd Power Company since acquisition in 2006). Ivano Iannelli, Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence Chief Executive OfficerIvano is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost experts in the fields of Sustainability and Carbon Emissions Management. His particular skillset is the establishment of Public Private Partnerships, where he leverages public incentives and thematic areas to generate private sector involvement and synergy. Amongst the several, the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, under the Supreme Energy Council, leverages the revenue stream from Carbon credits to improve the business efficiency and environmental performance of companies and organizations. As Senior Management of the United Nations and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his career has taken him across the globe, and he has managed important projects under highly challenging circumstances, in countries such as Afghanistan, Sudan and Mozambique. He has frequently provided a vital interface between governments, NGO’s and the private sector. As Chief of Projects for UNOPS, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Dubai Humanitarian City hub and was at the forefront of all emergency and relief operations of the UN in the region. Ivano has worked in numerous high profile projects in renewable energy, waste management and defence industries. His most recent notable achievements include the Yas Island Integrated Waste Management Plan and the Energy from Waste Heat project in Ras Al Khaimah. As a development economist, he specializes in the integration of international financial incentives and PPP models into the project development phase with a particular focus on the carbon layer, green energy and sustainable commercial initiatives, thus increasing the profitability of socio-environmental projects. Ivano is highly proficient in measuring performance, using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, and regularly incorporates the tried and tested methods of Balanced Scorecard and PRINCE2 into his projects.

Ivano holds a Bachelor Degree in International Relations from University of Memphis (USA), a Masters Degree in International Management from University of Cambridge (UK); in addition to a MBA with a specialization in Aviation Management from University of Coventry (UK). Ivano has more than 15 years of extensive business experience in different regions.

Anuar Yusoff, TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD Chief Operating OfficerAnuar is currently the Chief Operating Officer of TNB REMACO, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair works for TNB fleet. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Toledo, Ohio, USA and started working with TNB since 1987. Anuar received his Masters Degree in Engineering Management from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in 2008. He spent most of his 24 years career with TNB at Sultan Ismail Power Station, Paka, Terengganu, a 1200 MW Combine Cycled Power Plant. At Paka he had held various positions such as Electrical Engineer, Senior Engineer (Material Services), SeniorEngineer(Control&Instrumentation),Manager(BusinessSupportServices)andSeniorManager(Maintenance&Engineering)InJun2009,hewaspromotedas the General Manager of Cameron Highlands Power Stations, a 262 MW hydro power station located in the states of Pahang and Perak. In December 2010, he moved to his current position in TNB REMACO; as the Chief Operating Officer.

Mr. Mohammad Alaya, Lebanese Electricity Deputy Head El Sheikh Mohamad ALAYA has graduated as an electrical engineer from the American University of Beirut and he obtained two master degrees in Business Management one from Ecole Superieur des Affaires, Beyrouth (ESA) and one from European School of Management in ESCP-AP Paris, he occupied several key positions at EDL “Electricite Du Liban” among which was manager ofSpecifications and Methodologies, responsible of issuing all tenders, from simple supply to complex turnkey projects. Engineer ALAYA has gained experience in the power expansion planning and policy programs, tariff study project management for large projects related to power generation, transmission and distribution systems including information technology applications, GIS and Automatic metering systems, currently he is the manager of hydro power plants; he acted as the Director of Equipment and Projects at the utility EDL, responsible for new infrastructure projects in the electrical sector. Engineer ALAYA has participated in many workshops in Lebanon and abroad where he delivered presentations on the related subjects: Beirut, Seoul, Tokyo, Almaty, Dubai, Vienna, Stockholm, Amman, Alger, Ankara and Cairo. Engineer ALAYA has represented the Lebanese Government in AUPTDE (Arab Union of Producers, Transporters, and Distributors of Electricity and he is an active member in the LCECP (Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation Project) steering committee, he is the Co-author, of Lebanon generation expansion plan with Med-EMIP in Tunisia. He is well known for his contribution to some pioneer projects in the UAE such as characterization and compilation of fi sh species inhabiting the UAE waters, the rehabilitation and conservation of mangrove ecosystem, the conservation of sea turtles and Dugong and the impact assessment of environmental pollution. He was awarded research grants by the Shell companies in the UAE to support mangroves and sea turtles conservation projects. The first comprehensive and systematic study of nesting and behavior, feeding grounds, breeding and life cycle and ecology of marine turtles undertaken by Dr. Al-Ghais and associates in the UAE is valuable for an understanding of their status, biology, distribution and conservation, which is of international importance because these endangered species are migratory in nature and fi ve of the seven recognized species of marine turtles visit the UAE coastal waters. As an expert/advisor Dr. Al-Ghais has been also contributing to the environmental protection and management efforts of other government and non-government organizations on the national and international level.
