With an explosion in the

amount of healthcare data

available and rising

consumer expectations —

the trend toward greater

transparency is inevitable…



But if current trends continue, it’s easy to imagine health

systems overwhelmed by the amount of data reporting

required…

… distracting them from the real business

of improving healthcare.





To better understand how the world‘s major health

systems approach transparency, we created a global

index to score countries by their level of progress against

six key dimensions.



Here is a snapshot of what we found…



Health system transparency varies greatly from country

to country…

…and no one health system is truly pursuing it in a

strategic way.

In fact, the lack of consistency in average scores across

all dimensions of transparency confirms that health

systems are struggling to make the most of this

powerful tool.

While ‘Governance’ and ‘Finance’ indicators scored the

highest, ‘Quality of Healthcare’ scored the lowest –

suggesting this is where health systems are most

cautious to release data

needed to align and deliver the key dimensions of

transparency.

Taking a selective, phased

approach to data

publication……





Learning from innovative providers by looking at

what is already working well and expanding upon

it…





Measuring data that matters to patients and giving them

access to it…





And promoting a high trust culture that allows

independent third parties to assess open data and

provide their own analysis of ‘what’s going on’.
