KEY 15-508 REQUIREMENTSA US Ignite project responsive to this track must accomplish each of the following:

• Pursue a public sector application in one or more areas of national priority to include: advanced manufacturing, education and workforce, energy, transportation, healthcare, and public safety/emergency preparedness.

• Leverage or enhance one or more advanced networking technologies such as gigabit throughput, software-defined networks, or advanced wireless. NSF anticipates that the combination of novel applications and advanced networking will inform one or more research questions in the domains of networking, networked systems, or networked applications, which will in turn inform and improve our understanding of how to design, deploy, manage, support, or use advanced networking capabilities. Proposals should link the implementation of the application to the exploration and assessment of any identified research question(s).

• Identify one or more anchor institution(s) (e.g., a school, campus, health care facility, public safety entity, library, museum, or city), and demonstrate, and perform early evaluations of, the application in the context of the chosen anchor institution(s) in order to maximize the ability to transition the application to practice and widespread adoption.

• Specifically focused on the Global City Teams Challenge

• “Dear Colleague Letter” and EAGER funding focused on early-stage projects• Fewer proposal requirements• Rolling application review with a January 15, 2015 deadline• Up to $300,000 per project available; funding not eligible for renewal or

extension

• Designed to support NSF researchers in participating in the NIST GCTC teams

• Priority will be given to researchers who have previously received funding from CPS or related NSF programs and who are members of, or are seeking to establish, GCTC teams

KEY 15-015 REQUIREMENTSGoal of the NSF CPS program

• Develop the principles, methodologies, and tools needed to deeply embed computational intelligence, communications, and control, along with new mechanisms for sensing, actuation, and adaption, into physical systems.

• Advance fundamental knowledge and systems engineering of the kinds of systems that comprise the emerging smart city infrastructure and associated services

• Pursue novel research on effective integration of networked computer systems and physical devices that will have significant impact in meeting the challenges of the smart city

• Advances have often been in the context of areas such as:• Smart grid and renewable energy sources• intelligent transportation systems including autonomous cars and traffic optimization• Medical devices and networked medical systems• intelligent building control• Air transportation including air traffic management• Unmanned aerial vehicles
