Giving the gift of knowledgeBy supporting the Limburg University Fund, you are helping to nurture talent and contributing to lasting solutions to societal challenges. The following are just some of the projects that the University Fund makes possible at Maastricht University.

SUPPORT FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

University Fund Limburg1965 - 2015 | 50 YEARS

Research using the latest MRI scannersAt the Brains Unlimited scanner lab, our funding is supporting scientific research into human body and brain functioning in order to develop treatments for conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy and depression.

Therapeutic toys for disabled childrenThanks to our efforts, special toys for children with disabilities are being developed that will enable them to exercise their fine motor skills more, and outside the clinic. And with excellent results: aside from their spasms, these children are rapidly able to function more independently.

Nurturing talentIbukun was able to enrol in the master’s in Global Health at UM in September thanks to a sponsor scholarship. After obtaining her degree, she plans to return to her native Nigeria, where she will put her ample knowledge and experience to use to tackle the national healthcare system and achieve her goal of minimising child and maternal mortality.

Human Animal Sustainability FundThis fund supports scientific research at UM into sustainable human-animal relationships. The purpose of the research is to improve the welfare of people and animals, for example through initiatives such as pets at retirement homes and insights into the societal function of zoos.

Women in scienceWomen account for only a small share of higher academic positions. The Elinor Ostrom Fund is working to redress this imbalance and promote diversity through efforts to stimulate and motivate women in their scientific careers.

Structural prevention of child abuseEvery year, one in ten children in the Netherlands suffers abuse. UM research into the structural prevention of child abuse centres on safeguarding the right that every child has from birth to a non-harmful relationship with one or more adults as the foundation for a healthy childhood.

Efficacy of anti-smoking campaignsOur support is enabling health scientists to study the impact of anti-smoking campaigns. Their work will help policymakers and health professionals target their efforts to improve public health.
