Dwight’s Doodles Luke 2:46 After three days they found Jesus in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. An old story tells of a tourist in New York City who asked directions of a man carrying a violin case: “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” The violinist replied, “Practice!” The thought of practice makes perfect isn’t new. In the New Testament we find Mary and Joseph doing their best to follow all of God’s commands. They presented Jesus in the temple according to the law (just as we will be doing for the next two Sundays here at FBC). Later Mary and Joseph traveled to Jerusalem with Jesus as a 12-year-old to celebrate Passover. On their way home they notice that Jesus is NOT with them. Can’t you imagine the panic and frantic search? When they finally locate him teaching in the Temple I’m sure Mary gave him a special talking to. In verse 48 she asks, “Why have you treated us so?” Gently, Jesus asks, “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” He knew he must live out his larger purpose. There will be times on our journey of life that we will feel like Mary. We have tried to do the right things. And yet, we are caught off guard when life doesn’t go our way. We too ask God, “Why have you treated us so?” Thankfully, Jesus fulfilled the Law for us, obeying it perfectly. Then he died and rose again to remove the penalty of our sin forever. The plan to win eternal salvation has been in God’s heart forever. You and I have a part in bringing the Good News of it to others. Anything that happens to us can open the door to new opportunities for a witness to his goodness. We don’t always understand life’s bumps in the road, but we can lean on the promises of our God whose love for us never, ever changes.

[continued in next column]

We can’t know what our future holds, but we do know the One who holds that future, and holds us, in his Nail-Scarred Hands!

Graded Children’s Choirs start in just a few weeks! We always need help on Tuesday afternoons. If you could ride the bus, pass out snacks, help with crowd control, teach, or just come and hold a child and share the love of Jesus, come on and get involved. Call the church office and get plugged in!

This Sunday our focus in worship will be the Word of God. The Adult Choir will share one of our new anthems, Come Thou Fount! Endsley Bolen will help us by playing her flute. We will Dedicate children, and hear from the Gideon Ministry. Come prepared to give to this ministry if you feel led! He is waiting to hear your joyful noise… Come worship Him with open hearts!

I look forward to seeing you in worship this week ready to praise Him! My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to You. (Ps 71:23)

Blessings, Dwight
