GET READY FOR WORSHIP
During the period of online worship, our worship style is simplified, with
no musical liturgy, but with hymns and/or songs. The texts of hymns and
songs will be printed in this online bulletin where they appear in the order
of worship. You are encouraged to sing along at home with the
accompaniment from the musician at church.
This is a time to bust forth fully in song without worrying about being
heard by the congregation, which should encourage some of the more shy
singers among you, and to give full prayerful voice to fear or sorrow,
supplications for mercy, and of course, to trust, hope and praise.
HOW WE SHALL RECEIVE COMMUNION
Members are encouraged to have gathered both bread and wine or grape
juice in the space where family members will gather for worship, so that
everyone may participate in the full liturgy of the Eucharist. Even if you are
alone in your home, please partake of the body and blood of Christ in the
forms of bread and wine. We are together in the Body of Christ, by God's
loving Spirit, even when we are not present with another in our own flesh.

Welcome and Announcements
Confession and Forgiveness
P: In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P: The Lord knows the burden of our sin, how could we hide?
God...
C: you know me, sometimes I do not understand my own actions. I
know the right thing to do, but I do exactly the opposite. I can will
myself to do the right thing and my body will not do it. It is as though
sin dwells within me. And even now I try to blame the sin instead of
taking responsibility myself. Rescue me Lord from the sin I know in
my heart. Save me Lord from the sin I conceal from myself.
P: The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in
steadfast love. We can give thanks to God through Jesus Christ our Lord,
because of the blood of God’s own covenant we are set free from our sin.
It is for Christ's sake that our sins are forgiven. Now free we may take on
his yoke, and learn from him, and find rest. To the glory of the Father,
and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Gathering Song: Oh, Sing to God Above ELW 555
Oh, sing to God above
a hymn of joyful greeting,
a song of grateful love
in the new day's light repeating:
you made the sea and sky,
the sun and stars in splendor;
delight shone in your eye—
all your works were filled with wonder.
Refrain
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Oh, sing to God above: Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Oh, sing to God above: Alleluia!
Oh, sing to God above
a hymn of praise and blessing,
a song of grateful love,
hope and faith our hearts expressing:
creation lifts its voice
to tell your might and glory,
and we, too, will rejoice
to proclaim the saving story. Refrain
Oh, sing to God above: Alleluia!
Liturgy of the Word
Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.
Kyrie
Prayer of the Day
You are great, O God, and greatly to be praised. You have made us for
yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Grant that we
may believe in you, call upon you, know you, and serve you, through
your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
READING: Romans 7: 15-25a
15I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but
I do the very thing I hate. 16Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that
the law is good. 17But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells
within me. 18For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in
my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. 19For I do not do the
good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. 20Now if I do what I
do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me.
21So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies
close at hand. 22For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, 23but I
see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making
me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24Wretched man
that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25aThanks be to
God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation:
GOSPEL: Matthew 11: 16-19, 25-30
[Jesus spoke to the crowd saying:] 16“To what will I compare this
generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to
one another,
17‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance;
we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ 18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a
demon’; 19the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look,
a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet
wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
25At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and
earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the
intelligent and have revealed them to infants; 26yes, Father, for such was
your gracious will. 27All things have been handed over to me by my
Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows
the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal
him.
28“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens,
and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for
I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Hymn of the Day: I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say ELW 611
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Come unto me and rest;
lay down, O weary one, lay down
your head upon my breast."
I came to Jesus as I was,
so weary, worn, and sad;
I found in him a resting-place,
and he has made me glad.
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Behold, I freely give
the living water, thirsty one;
stoop down and drink and live."
I came to Jesus, and I drank
of that life-giving stream;
my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
and now I live in him.
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"I am this dark world's light;
look unto me, your morn shall rise,
and all your day be bright."
I looked to Jesus, and I found
in him my star, my sun;
and in that light of life I'll walk
till trav'ling days are done.

Hymn: What A Friend We have in Jesus ELW 742
What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
ev'rything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit;
oh, what needless pain we bear--
all because we do not carry
ev'rything to God in prayer!
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged--
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev'ry weakness--
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge--
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In his arms he'll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.
Dismissal
Go in peace. Christ is with you. Thanks be to God.
