Retirement takes planning, planning that shouldinclude the Soldier and the Family. You should notexpect someone else to take care of your retirementfor you or let it happen by chance. Would you takeeven a short Family trip without knowing yourdestination, your route and everything you needed
for the trip? Of course not.
As a general rule, you should not retire on impulse.Each Soldier and Family should look ahead towardthat day when retirement is possible and thenconsider the options. If you plan to retire in thenext two years,
its a good ideato review thefollowing steps
and subjects.While the thoughtof retiring isdaunting to some,proper planningwill put it inperspective.

FIRST Contact the human resources specialistat your personnel oce to see if you are eligibleto retire.
SECOND Contact your Retirement ServicesOcer (RSO) for information on retirement benetsand entitlements; retired pay; the Survivor BenetPlan (SBP); health benets; and for the preretirement

COMBAT-RELATED SPECIAL COMPENSATION (CRSC)
A special payment for retirees with combat-relateddisabilities whose retired pay is reduced by disabilitypay received from the Department of Veterans Aairs(VA). http://www.crsc.army.mil
CONCURRENT RETIREMENT AND DISABILITY
PAYMENTS (CRDP)
A special payment for retirees rated by the VA asat least 50 percent disabled whose retired pay isreduced by VA disability pay. http://www.dfas.mil/rapay/disability/crscandcrdp.html.
DENTAL INSURANCE
The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) is afee-for-service plan, funded entirely by enrollee-paidpremiums. http://www.DDPdelta.org
