The old t imers a lways say they learn more in the ha l lways of var ious ve te r inary meet ings than they ever do l is tening to lectures. Whi le there is much exce l len t in format ion p resen ted at veter i- nary meet ings, those old t imers p robab ly had a point.
These days, with so much at tent ion to the Internet and all the in format ion which can be found there, we often over look the va lue of the var ious on l ine d ia logues wh ich often can be quite interest ing, even downr igh t in format ive.
The IAEP webs i te (h t tp : / /www. iaep.com) has a ser ies of on l ine fo rums wh ich shou ld be inter- est ing once more ve te r inar ians and equ ine re- searchers begin to use them. The Forum page has a dozen top ics l isted. You choose one and read what o thers have th rown out for d iscuss ion. If you feel p rompted to make comments , there is a place at the bot tom of the page to type in your message. You r message then appears on the d iscuss ion page, perhaps prompt ing fur ther dis- cuss ion from others. The c o m m e n t s remain on the pages for severa l weeks, so it is not neces- sary to have others immedia te ly on l ine to create a d ia logue.
Th is on l ine pro fess iona l d ia logue is a new th ing to us all, but it has great potent ia l . It is, however , much like the old hand water pump which tended to require pr iming with a litt le bit of water to get the f l ow started. These d ia logue pages need some pr iming. Th is is an appeal to help. P lease take some t ime and cont r ibu te com- ments in those subject areas wh ich interest you. Soon the d ia logue wil l begin to f low in profusion, and we all wil l benef i t f rom it.
