It certainly does not seem like it has been a year since we were

getting ready for the 1st Annual Buckles and Banners sale, but here

we are! First of all, I would like to thank everyone who attended the

sale, and purchased or bid on the cattle last year! Next, I would like to

congratulate everyone that had success with last years’ purchases, either

in the show ring or in the pasture! I, along with the other consignors

are very excited and confident that this set of females is simply

exceptional. I sincerely hope that you can join us here in West Point,

We selected the Upgrade daughter, Shania Y207 as a young seven month heifer and felt she would mature into a nice cow. We feel she has done that and you can see for yourself sale day. Along the way Shania Y207 has been shown successfully at the Iowa Simmental futurity, the AJSA Junior Nationals and the Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes. • I’ve never been known for my great footnotes but I will try to explain this story. There is a reason for naming these heifers Lucky Girl. My dad has always told me that it’s better to be lucky than good. Well I guess I’m going to play the Lucky card this time. I purchased these embryos out of Bob & Nick Dwyer’s sale a couple years back and got all three to take, or maybe my wife had something to do with the pregnancy rate! Regardless, timing is everything and 612A and 73A are honestly as good of purebred females as I have worked on in a long time. Not very often do you sell choice on two females and it is this close in quality. Don’t bother asking my opinion because I am not sure which one is better so you can decide. These two JS Sure Bet daughters are out of the 8543Y donor from Werning and RJ in South Dakota and after this summer she needs very little introduction. Two of her daughters were Division Champions at Junior Nationals and one went on to be Grand Champion Purebred Female and the other was 7th overall. Additionally, one of her daughters won the Illinois State Fair. These females all have the same great attributes from their mother; they are huge footed, moderate framed, easy fleshing cattle that have an extreme amount of look. • Selling choice of C6A and 92XA.• This is one of those footnotes you don’t know where to start or how to put in words how good this pair of heifers are in person. I will start out by saying we are selling choice on these two Wide Track daughters and the one that heads to southwest Missouri will enter the Owen Brothers donor pen. Wide Track is a sire that has gained tons of attention after being a top selling lot for Wernings. We used the Wide Track to create outcross cattle to widen our production base, I can’t say that I anticipated creating females that would be this impressive on the tan bark! The dam of these heifer was the most prolific show heifer that we have ever raised at Owen Brothers, she won Fort Worth in 2011 and 2012 also was Reserve bred and owned at Junior Nationals in 2011, but after seeing this young donor’s calf crop I feel that her real impact at Owen Brothers will be raising these kind of females.
