Local Environment / Windmill Park

1d: Geography is seen as a key subject to engage creative and critical thinking about people and places, local and global changes and possible futures.

The School Council and children across all year groups have been involved in the design of a new playground which will be situated close to the school. Children in the School Council are here seen discussing the project with the project engineer from Stockton Borough Council. Artist Gilmar Ribeiro is seen working with the children on their designs for the local park. Construction is now underway and the children will be able to see their plans take shape with benefit for all of the local children in the community.

Eco - Project Growing Spaces 1d: Geography is seen as a key subject to engage creative and critical thinking about people and places, local and global changes and possible futures.

The opportunities for our children to get involved and to learn more about China have clearly been increased and we have had a China focus across all year groups this year.

Y5 and Y6 China DayChildren had the opportunity to learn about different aspects of life in China.

The Nile riverThe ancient Egyptians enjoyed many natural barriers. There were deserts to the east and west of the Nile River, and mountains to the south. This isolated the ancient Egyptians and allowed them to develop a truly distinctive culture. The Nile is the world's longest river. It is over 4000 miles long! It is shaped like the lotus flower so often seen in ancient Egyptian art. Each spring, water would run off the mountains and the Nile would flood.

AnimalsWhen most people think of African animals, the animals of the Savannah are the ones that come to mind. Lions, giraffes, leopards, elephants and rhinoceroses all live on the grasslands. Savannah animals have to be on a constant search for water, especially during the dry season. The savannah is where people go on a safari to see the wild animals in Africa.
