2. Where are the Himalaya Mountains?

3. How were the Mountains Formed?

  • 40 to 50 million years ago 4. Indian and Eurasian Tectonic Plates collide 5. The tectonic plates smashed into each other and caused an upward thrust and folding of the Earths crust 6. The tectonic plates are still moving and the mountains will continue to grow

7. Interesting Facts:
The Himalaya Mountains are home to 9 of the worlds 14 tallest peaks including Mount Everest the tallest peak in the world at 29,035 ft. above sea level That is about 5.5 miles tall!

  • The Himalaya Mountains are home to the headwaters of some of the worlds major river systems. Those rivers supply water to almost half of the worlds population!
