Learning Objectives

• All students must be able to locate Machu Picchu on a map of South America

• Most students should be able to explain the reasons for Machu Picchu’s location and reasons for the abandonment of the area by the Inca people

• Some students could appreciate the costs and benefits of tourism to the local area

Create your Blog1. Go to www.blogspot.com

2. Click on the big orange box that says ‘CREATE A BLOG’

3. Fill in the details (make sure you make a note of the e-mail address, password and username-type them into a ‘word’ document and save the file)

4. Fill in your blog title: (something like Sam’s BLS GCSE Geography Blog)

5. Fill in your blog address: blsyournamegeographyblog.blogspot.com

6. Choose your template7. Get blogging!

• Follow the instructions on the worksheet telling you what you need to include in your presentation.

• Create a new Powerpoint file and save it in your student folder.

• We have this lesson, next lesson and a homework to get this presentation completed and posted onto our blogs.

1. Machu Picchu’s history

• Location of Machu Picchu (Include a location map)• Write an introduction to Machu Picchu (what it is, where it is,

describe what physical/human geography features it is close to)

• Write a short history of the site• Find a labelled diagram of the site (showing the different

features of the site)• Explain what makes the site a good place for building a

settlement• Explain what makes the site a bad place to build a settlement• Explain why you think Machu Picchu was abandoned y the

Incas.• For example: So that the Incas would be able to defend

themselves; As a retreat (hideaway) for the Inca royal family; As a pilgrimage site where Incas could go to worship nature; As a trading centre. Which one do you think is the most likely explanation, or can you think of one of your own – explain your decision.

Posting your presentation onto your blog

1. In order to post a presentation on your blog you will have to set-up an account with www.slideshare.net.

2. Click on “sign up” and fill in the details.-write them down-don’t forget them!

3. When you have set up an account, log in and click on “upload” and follow the instructions to upload your Powerpoint file. This may take a few minutes to upload.

4. While it is uploading, open a new web-browser and login to you blog.

5. Once your presentation has uploaded, click on it. When it has loaded, at the bottom click on “more share options”, then click on ‘Blogger’.

6. Fill in your blog username, the blog address and your blog password. Then click on “post”. Your presentation should now appear on your blog.

7. You can now view your very own blog!-click “View blog”. You can customise it in any way you want and it can be visited from all over the world!
