LOCATION

Relative Location :

• The Caribbean is positioned in both the northern and western hemispheres.

• The overall area includes the Caribbean Sea and all of its islands located to the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico, east of Central America and Mexico, and to the north of South America.

• The islands are bordered in the east and north by the Atlantic Ocean.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Made up of three island groups:

• Greater Antilles

• Lesser Antilles

• The Bahamas

Greater Antilles are made up of :

• Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican republic), and Puerto Rico.

Lesser Antilles are the other smaller islands

CLIMATES

• The Caribbean climate is tropical

• Temperatures range between 24°C and 32°C

• Trade Winds bring steady sea breezes in to the Caribbean from the northeast year-round.

• Hurricanes are a constant feature of most of the Caribbean
