RAP/HIP HOP CONVENTIONSThe conventions associated with rap music are that they will be dressed in usual casual working clothes or if they are trying to show of which is more usual they will be wearing gangster clothes such as baggy t-shirts, jewellery, hats etc. unless the music video is themed. Usually rap and hip hop is associated with violence, sex(speaking about women in a way that they are made to sound like objects) and drugs. In terms of speech you expect there to be slang of some sort aswell as swearing and explicit language and as mentioned before promoting drugs and talking about women in rude ways. The colours associated with rap could be black, grey, brown as they are usually talking about bad times or problems they have sometimes though as a complete alternative they have really bright colours and talk about how they have got to where they are now.

POP CONVENTIONSIn a pop song you expect to see a young man singing over exaggerated love songs (aimed at teenage girls). The artist is usually very happy and content with life and is wearing clothing which is in style but maybe is bright also. The song length usually lasts roughly between 3-5 minutes and has a consistent beat. The beat is usually dance orientated and the main singer will be dancing along in the video. A lot of the imagery is either sexual or of party's in the hope that they attracting the teens interests. In pop videos they usually have a section where there is a rap this is because they are aiming at teens so they hope they can bring in the other teens who aren't as interested by the pop part of the music but like the rap

ROCK CONVENTIONSThe conventions associated with rock include male artists with lots of tattoo's, extremely long/styled hair or very short hair(unusual). Rock magazines generally have a dark colour scheme as it relates to the artist also the picture of the artist on the front of a rock magazine are completely different to every other genres front cover as the star is not posing it is a unglamorous shot of them. The lyrics similar to rock are explicit however they are different as they are usually about hate as appose to objectifying women or promoting themselves. Another stereotypical convention about rock music is one of the artist screaming at certain points of the song

DANCE CONVENTIONS

The typical conventions of dance music genre is clubbing and party scenes to be the setting women to be wearing high heels, short skirts and other night out clothing and to be wearing lots of make up. The people in the song to be jumping around and lots of people drinking alcohol. Also you expect to see the artists using UV paint as there is usually points where it is fairly dark and this is how you can see them and others. Also you expect to see a lot of flashing lights and usually a character playing a DJ. Furthermore you expect to hear a consistent beat but will gain pace and loose pace at certain points of the song.

JAZZ CONVENTIONSJazz music videos tend to contain a quiet upbeat emotion which makes the audience happy/smile. The performance space is usually big and throughout the music video the location will switch. The outfits worn by jazz musicians are usually expensive and very sophisticated. The locations are much more old-fashioned than other genres and the music videos usually take place in places such as on the streets or shops and run down places. Also you expect to see instruments such as trumpets, guitars and saxophones.

COUNTRY CONVENTIONSTend to have a strong narrative aspect. Set in very stereotypical locations, such as rural areas. Mise-en-scen tends to be very traditional or set in an elder generation, e.g. Victorian. The artist usually features within the video. There is usually a male who sings about a woman but as appose to rap music he signs it in a more respectful way. Country music usually has questions asked by the artists as they are singing.
