Ms Stanbro’s Genius Hour Diary: Week OneEnergy was high the first day. We watched some videos that got us excited. Then, using an idea I learned from Corkboard Connections, each student was given a pink sticky note to post a passion on the Genius Hour bulletin board. After a few rounds of posting pink passions, each student was given a blue sticky to post a project. If we could, we paired projects with passions. Sometimes we just posted project ideas.

I noticed that it took a little while to get the ideas going. Stopping and reading off ideas regularly seemed to spark new ideas. I also noticed that project ideas were a little harder to come up with than passions. I guess those ideas need some percolating.

I left the sticky notes with Ms. Smart in case some new ideas were born while I was away.

Ms Stanbro’s Genius Hour Diary: Week TwoThis week we looked deeper into our project ideas. Students completed Feasibility Studies and Project Proposals. Most students got some sort of project approved.

I noticed that some students needed to set more ambitious goals for themselves. Others need to divide their project idea into smaller parts to make them manageable.

A few students had trouble identifying an area to research for their project idea. Part of the idea of Genius Hour is to learn something new or solve a problem in a new way. That requires some research.

Ms. Stanbro’s Genius Hour Diary: Week ThreeAs I reviewed everyone’s Genius Hour Projects, I started to wonder about the Kahoot projects. Kahoot is meant to quiz people to see what they know.

Perhaps it makes more sense to teach about your topic first and then you can quiz them using Kahoot.

Also, I have a few friends who have not completed a project proposal yet. I will be checking in with them first thing to get that phase accomplished.

If you have a completed project proposal, check in on your project plan. What will you do today?
