WORK ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO PROSECUTING ATTORNEY EXPERIENCE: BARBOUR COUNTY COMMISSION – Philippi, West Virginia September 17, 2013, to June 8, 2015 I was responsible for the day to day operations of the office of Prosecuting Attorney for Barbour County, West Virginia. This entailed receiving and placing telephone calls involving the general public, victims, witnesses, etc. Part of my duties included communicating, not only in person, but also verbally and in writing, with the Circuit Court Judge and his staff, and the Magistrate Court of Barbour County, West Virginia, as well as other government agencies, (i.e., West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office, West Virginia Prosecuting Attorney’s Institute, West Virginia State Police Crime Lab, local Law Enforcement agencies, etc.), as well as attorneys offices and their staff. I was charged with the responsibility of handling the general public, including victims of crimes, their loved ones and advocates, as well as witnesses associated with the presentation of the States’s cases. I was also given the responsibility by the Judge of the Circuit Court of Barbour and Taylor Counties for the scheduling of hearings in Barbour County, West Virginia. I was further responsible for the preparation of Witness Lists and Subpoena Requests for upcoming hearings in both the Circuit Court and Magistrate Court of Barbour County, West Virginia. I was also given the responsibility of drafting, proofreading, and finalizing not only correspondence but also court documents for both the Circuit Court and Magistrate Court. It was also my responsibility to assist in the preparation of cases for presentation to the Grand Jury, including preparation and distribution of Discovery materials to defense counsel. My job was very detail oriented and much of my work was considered to be sensitive and confidential in nature. In line with the duties associated with my position, I became a Statewide Notary Public to aid in the notarization of signatures on court documents. My duties also included the setting up of office files in the manner directed by the Prosecuting Attorney. As part of the filing system, I became proficient in the use of a Fujitsu scanner program. As Administrative Assistant, I was also given the responsibility of purchasing office supplies and some equipment. The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was required to complete various forms, including registration forms for conferences and seminars, as well as various other forms as specifically required by the Prosecuting Attorney and Barbour County Commission, which also became my responsibility. I left this position due to the budget constraints of the Barbour County Commission.

As a single person, my income from my employment with the Barbour CountyCommission was not sufficient to allow me to live independently, so I soughtpart-time employment to supplement my income. While working as a custodian wascertainly a far cry from my typical career path, it was an opportunity afforded me tosupplement my income, so I took it. I primarily worked at the Snyder Industries,Inc., plastics manufacturing plant in Philippi, West Virginia, where I was solelyresponsible for the custodial care of the offices, break room, and shipping andreceiving areas of the plant. My duties included floor care for the ceramic tile andlaminate flooring areas (sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming of the floors), cleaningand maintenance of the restroom facilities of the plant provided for both the maleand female employees as well as the shipping and receiving customers. I further wasresponsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the break room area of the plant, aswell as the offices of the Plant Manager and other administrative offices of SnyderIndustries, Inc. I left this position shortly after resigning my position with theBarbour County Commission due to my relocation to Harrison County, West Virginia.

JUDGE'S SECRETARYWEST VIRGINIA SUPREME COURT OF APPEALS – Charleston, West VirginiaJanuary 1, 1993, to April 19, 2013

I was responsible for the day to day operations of a Circuit Court Judge’s office,which included receiving and placing telephone calls from the general public, otherCourt personnel, attorneys and their staff, law enforcement officers and agencies,defendants, victims, and witnesses. My responsibilities further included thescheduling of all hearings (civil, criminal, juvenile, abuse and neglect, and domesticmatters) for my supervising Circuit Judge as well as scheduling and conductingcivil Pre-Trial/Status Conferences and generating the resulting Order from saidhearing. I was further responsible for drafting, proofreading, and finalizingcorrespondence and various court documents, including Notices, Motions, Orders,and jury trial documents. I transcribed correspondence and Court documents fromboth mini-cassette tapes as well as from the Judge directly. My work was verydetail oriented and was confidential and sensitive in nature. I further had theresponsibility of setting up office files as directed by the supervising Circuit Judge. I was charged with the responsibility of purchasing office supplies and doingresearch for the purchase of office equipment. I had the responsibility of completing and submitting various forms as required by the West Virginia SupremeCourt including the P-Card reconciliation form for purchases on a monthly basisand an abuse and neglect case tracking form on a quarterly basis. I attendedvarious training conferences and seminars during my tenure as a Judge’s Secretary. During my tenure, on a rotating basis, I was the “Leave Record-keeper” for themore than twenty-five (25) State Supreme Court employees. These duties includedkeeping track, on a monthly basis, of the leave accrued, used, and carried over foreach employee. At the end of each calendar year, I had the responsibility ofpreparing and distributing new Leave Record forms for all of the employees whichform included the annual and sick leave carried forward for each employee. I wasan “at will” employee and was discharged by my supervising Circuit Judge.
