GBSetpoint: What is it’s job?

Automatic calculation of appropriate pressure set point for choke through all drilling activities based on desired bottom hole pressure.

Surge Pressure +++++++++

• What is surge pressure?Surge Pressure: When pipe moves downward with mud circulation through drill string, additional bottom hole pressure called “Surge Pressure” is created. If surge pressure is too much, many problems will occur such as formation break down, partial mud loss and lost circulation.

Page 13: Gba Mpd Trn Gbsetpoint for Mpd

GeoBalance

Swab Pressure ---------

• What is swab pressure?Swab Pressure: If a drill string , casing string or logging tool is being pulled out of hole too fast, due to bigger diameter almost same hole size, BHA/ bit, casing or logging tool will possibly swab mud out of hole, like pulling small a piston of syringe. For this reason, hydrostatic pressure of bottom hole will be reduced. Pressure reduction created by this situation is called “Swab Pressure”.

Leakoff Test numbers are entered on this screen.

Export/Import Configuration is used to save or load all

click on Options and click on Show Active Well Only. This

will remove the check mark and Mud Editor will show all

past wells.

GBSetpoint: Multiple MudsGB Setpoint can model for multiple drilling fluids in the

well bore. The Muds in Well tab will display the

density and volume of the multiple muds. The

adjacent tabs will show the type of fluid that is in the well and it’s properties.

properties of a mud being pumped into the wellbore select Change Mud in the Mud Tab.

• Set Current Mud box will appear• Choose the Mud type from the

drop down box and select the Display Color.

• Or you can choose to only change the mud density of the fluid going into the wellbore. Click on Override Density and type in the new density. Select the display color and choose OK.

• Place the cursor over the mud and the following will appear

1. Volume2. Density3. Top of the section for that particular mud.4. Bottom of the section for that particular mud.5. The length of the section of mud.• This is true for all of the muds present in the

wellbore, not just the current mud being pumped into the drill pipe.

GBSetpoint: Multiple Muds• To increase the volume of mud present in the wellbore, click on the “+” button and select the volume, in bbl, you wish to add to the wellbore.

GB Setpoint can only add volume, not subtract existing barrels of mud in the

wellbore.

GBSetpoint Thermal Correction• Thermal correction can be

applied to the WHP Setpoint calculation. When Thermal Correction is applied to the model it will appear highlighted, when not in use it will be grayed out and will not be used in the calculation.

• For Thermal Correction to be applied;

1. Must have a Mud Temp In and Mud Temp Out

2. At least 2 point specifying Depth and Temperature

3. Current Pump Time will determine how the Thermal Gradient is applied within the wellbore.
