- coaxiales (in line)- perpendiculaires (right angle) .

VI STARTING THE INSTALLATION
After a Jong storage of the equipment a leak can appear atthe stuffrng box . lt is then necessary to increase thepressure an the packing rings by tightening the glandbolting . It is not recom mended to apply an exessivepressure but just enough to stop the leak .
Exessivepressure an packings generating an increase in operatingtorque and in
case
of motor operated
valve a prematurestop
of the engine can occur by the action
of the torqueswitch .
For the electric
connection
of motor operated
%alvetlie
cover of the junction box has to be removed for theshortest time to avoid water coming into the electricorgans .
During this operation, no intervention is being done to thelimit switches and torque s~-itches -%Nrhich haue been seint ihe final :rapectron at ühe facto:y
VII CLEAN CONDITIONS OF THE EQUIPMENT
All the piping as well as the valves shall be cleanedwith compressed air, for example.
It is very important to check that there is no metalcuttings or welding spots an the sealing surfaces thatcould create damaltes to the sealing surfaces (seat forcing)

VIII ABILITY OF THE PIPI-NG TO RECErVETHE EQUIPMENT
The aligment of the two pipe sections as well
as theconnecting flanges parallelism will be checked or thebutts
in
case
of buttwelding connections .
Under no circunstances the flanges of buttwelding endsshall be designed to correct a defect relating to the abovementioned points .
- The position of the equipment with regard of flowdirechan
The globe valve, check valves and gate valves fitted with aby pass or depres surizing device an the closure niember, are non symterical valves and shall be mounted, taking intoaccount the arrow embossed an the body of the valve as theflow direction .
IX POSITION OF HANDWHEEL OR OFACTUATOR DEVICE
As far as possible, the valves will be installed in thehorizontal position, handwheel an top
particularly forthrough
conduit
and
large
port valves .As well, electricmotors cannot always work in all positions.
In every
rase,
it is strongly recommended
not tomodify the position of the valve without reverting to themanufacturer .

Si
I'etancheite

INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL REV 1 DU 01.09.2002
SHEET 1
GENERAL
1/ INTRODUCTION.
This manual is used for standard maintenance operation support for bolted bonnet and pressure seal bonnet gate, globe and swing check valves, from class 150 lbs up to 2500 lbs. In case of a specific work to be perform on the valves, additional informations can be obtain from MALBRANQUE upon written request. Other operations than usual valve maintenance may infringe Malbranque guarantee.
2/ RECOMMENDATIONS.
2.1. WARNING
The following recommendations are resulting of our industrial valve manufacturer experience. They are a general guide which cannot cover all different and particular situations met during unit/site installation. However, it brings to the fore absolute and permanent recommendations which, if they are transgressed, may compromise people safety, material and plant durability.
2.2. EQUIPMENT STORAGE
When valves are not immediately installed after delivery, following rules must be apply. Keep the valves as long as possible in their original packing. When valves are laid out from original packing, store the valves in a clean and protected area in closed position with their original protections ( end connections taps, locking devices....), to prevent particles contamination of internal volumes, until their installation on pipe. When possible, keep material from bad weather conditions to prevent sand, dust or any other particles which can form with grease, an abrasive paste , on the stem.
3. INSTALLATION OF THE EQUIPMENT
3.1. HANDLING OF THE EQUIPMENT
While handling, the equipment shall be slung under the body or by handling devices (if existing) but not through the handwheel, the yoke, the actuator or the bonnet. Avoid chocks which can result in tightness and external coating damages Don't drag material on the ground. As the seating surfaces are one of the most important portion of any valve for obtaining it's effective function, an extensive attention shall be paid as not to scratch and/or cause damage to this area.
REF SP 6901-A33 A
INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL REV 1 DU 01.09.2002
SHEET 2
3.2. ASSEMBLING ON PIPE
Prior to assembling on pipe, remove all end connections taps and clean the inside of the valve as well as the flange gaskets surfaces. NOTA: Internal parts of cryogenic service valves must be properly dried out and grease free. Check that there are no metal cutting, welding spots or any other material in the piping that could damage the sealing surfaces. Check that the disc of check valve is not blocked by any wooden piece eventually installed for transport. On installation, check the marking of valve, name plate/tag being attached to each valve which describes Rating, Size, Shell and trim material, or flow direction or others, in order to avoid mistakes or confusion. Check The alignment of the two pipe sections, the pipe connecting flanges or butt weld ends preparation parallelism and distance. Under no circumstances the flanges or the butt-welding ends valves shall be used to correct a defect relating to the above points. Installation direction of a gate valve is normally free but must be performed in accordance with indicated flow marking if the disc is provided with a pressure balance hole or by-pass system ( see arrow or special marking on valve for flow direction). Since the flow direction of check and globe valve is clearly marked, install them as being instructed. As far as possible, assemble the valve on the pipe in a vertical position with hand wheel or actuator on top of the pipe. In case of butt weld ends type valves, welding to the line and post weld heat treatment operation shall be performed with the valve in half opened position. For local annealing, keep the temperature within required range and never give excessive heat transfer to the valve seat area. Also welding slags or spatters shall be completely cleaned off because majority of troubles on a valve attributes to its seat surface damage caused with weld spatter or other foreign material damaging the sealing surfaces.
4.STARTING AND OPERATING OF THE INSTALLATION
After a long storage of the equipment, when the installation is pressurized a leak can appear at the stuffing box. It is then necessary to tighten the gland bolting. It's also essential to check and if necessary to tighten up the body bonnet bolting. For in situ tests and start up of the installation, never drain the valves thru the packing or the shaft plug (for check valves) Gate valves shall be used either in full opened or completely closed position. If used in partially position, vibration on the disc may occurred with high speed flow, and damage the disc and seats sealing surfaces. As far as service conditions allow it, it is very important to regularly perform an opening-closing movement (even partial) of valves which stay in same position for a long period.

SHEET 3
5/ VALVES FITTED WITH ACTUATORS
For the electric connection of motor operated valve the cover junction box has to be removed for the shortest time to avoid water coming into the electric organs.
6/ MAINTENANCE
THIS GIVES ONLY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BASIC MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS. YOU WILL FIND ATTACHED TO THIS MANUAL DIFFERENT NM, IM AND BE REFERENCED DOCUMENTS FOR TECHNICAL HELP AND INFORMATIONS.
6.1. USUAL MAINTENANCE
6.1.1 Retightening of stuffing box on gate and globe valves
When a leak appears at the stuffing box, retighten in order to increase the pressure on the packing. This force is developed by retightening the nuts progressively and alternatively to maintain the gland flange parallel to the upper bonnet flange. On motor operated valves an excessive operating torque may generate an unexpected operation of the torque switches that are protecting the motor. In the event the leakage persists the packing needs to be replaced.
6.1.2 Lubrication of stem on gate and globe valves
In order to guarantee a good efficiency of the material, it is recommended to grease regularly the stem threads .(There is no specific requirement regarding periodicity). For valve with non rising handwheel (mostly gate valves), the lubricating is made by using the lubrication plug. For valve with rising handwheel (mostly globe valve), the lubricating is made directly on the stem threads with a paint brush.
Swing check valve does not require any usual maintenance.
6.2. SPECIAL MAINTENANCE
6.2.1. Replacement of packing (only original spares must be used)
Shall be done when leaking of the stuffing box cannot be stop by retightening or as per end user recommendations 6.2.2. Replacement of Bonnet gasket (only original spares must be used)
Shall be done every time body /bonnet are disconnected or as per end user recommendations
