Program and portfolio managers are currently leading vital business transformation. With the arrival of the digital era — and the convergence of disruptive technologies such as mobile, social, cloud and big data — business disruption and major change are sweeping over organizations. CEOs are relying on EPMOs, not just to deliver projects reliably, but to identify and champion key initiatives, secure necessary resources and make business strategy reality!

At the Gartner PPM & IT Governance Summit 2014, you’ll get the information you need to embrace not only these challenges, but better understand how your role is changing as a result, too! At this year’s conference, we’ll look at the new skills you need for success, whether you’re bridging the gap between IT and business or delivering digital-era transformation. You’ll learn how to modernize decision-making, implement change and carve out resources for innovation.

“ Great presentations, industry leading experts, access to solution

providers and networking with peers. I would encourage anyone

who can attend to do so.” Katy Czarnota, PMo Lead, Menzies distribution

The TracksYou asked and we listened! For 2014 we have introduced a different track package to what we have previously presented, in the shape of 6 ‘mini-tracks’, to make it easier for you to navigate your way through the content.

The 6 new mini tracks for 2014 are:

A Project and Program Management How many of the following questions get a “Yes” from you/your organization? (1)OurC-Level“gets”thatprojectandprogrammanagementdrivestrategicsuccess? (2) All of us in PPM know that current practices are wholly inadequate for the future?, and (3) can a gentleman wear a vest with lapels? If you did not answer “Yes” to two out of three — then your projects and programs may be headed for deep trouble! Our speakers’ guidance on this track will help steer you toward future practices for project and program success.

B The Dynamic PMOPMOs are increasingly about the “M” word — “Management” — and how to improve it using lean and agile techniques, specialized roles and tools to support streamlined processes. PMOs that emerged in IT are being pressed into service as enterprise PMOs (EPMOs), affecting their relationships to both IT and otherbusiness-unitPMOs.Fromthistrackyou’lllearnhowhighlycapablePMOteams drive effective — and cost-effective — change via advanced project and program management disciplines.

C IT Portfolio ManagementTracking investments is the essence of “portfolio management,” yet most IT organizations do little to follow-up on their investments or strategically balance their portfolios. Many still prioritize first-in-first-out, or over-allocate most resources to the most assertive project sponsors. Gartner analysts, with a view encompassing new projects, legacy application portfolios and asset management, will offer guidance for trading off among investments to align the portfolio with investment goals.

D IT GovernanceWhile most PPM leaders want better governance over projects and programs, most don’t want to be governed more in their work. Governance is inherently nebulous, but can be incredibly powerful to optimize effort and resource expenditure toward specific objectives, in concert with an appropriate risk-return profile. This track explores the context of PPM governance, the content of PPM governance— and provides guidance on how to optimally provide governance in your situation.

E Resource Management, People, Organizational Change and Leadership Resource management is a two-fold problem for PMOs. On the one hand project resources are spread so thin that projects struggle to deliver on time. On the other hand organizations are changing their expectations of the role of a project manager and are now asking for involved leadership rather than box checking compliance with process. 2014 marks a period of dramatic transformation. Those prepared will prevail while those who aren’t will fail. PPM leaders must prepare for a significantly greater number of transformation projects and programs with different risk return profiles. This will require more in-depth skills in the areas of leadership, organizational change and communication.

F Project Risk Gartner predicts significant change driven by economic turbulence and a need to innovate. Significant change, while offering significant rewards, also offers increased risk. This track explores risk as it pertains to projects, programs, and the portfolio.
