You might have seen her walking around cam-pus, but it's even more likely that you've gotten a

glimpse of Jaime Dugan on the newest season of"Survivorj'which took place in the Jiangxi provinceof China.Though she may look like iL,22-year-oldDugan is no girly girl, and she set out to prove justthat on this past season of "Survivorl'

'As a kid I was definitely a tomboyj' Dugan said."l used t0 play mud football in the rain with all ofthe boys in the neighborhood, and I would playkickball in the street barefootl'

Dugan refused to wear figure skates whenshe went ice-skating, so her dad had to buyher hockey skates.

"My grandpa taught me to shoot a

rifle when I was 10 years old. He wouldset up targets in a field and if I hit thebull's-eye he would give me a toonie

- a Canadian $2 coinl' Continuingthis athletic lifestyle, Dugan startedplaying softball in the ninth gradefor Spartanburg High School. "l played 0n thevarsity team all the way through my senior yearplaying center field, catcher and shortstop."

Dugan's tomboy attitude is still apparent today,

seen through her participation on "Survivorl'She even wants to form a career around sportsbroadcasting, especially in the marketing or publicrelations field, she said.

It's no wonder Dugan would try to get onto a

show that tests contestants' physical and mentalabilities beyond the extreme.

"l watched the show when I was in high school;'Dugan said. "l always thought it would be crazy tocompete in the challenges. Ever since high schoolI have not had much of a chance to be competi-tive. I knew it would be tough but I wanted to prove

to myself that lcould do itl'With that mindset, Dugan decided to submit her

audition tape and application for "Survivorl' Sheinitially received a call back to audition for "Pirate

Masterl'another show that CBS was filming in LosAngeles, but she didn't make the final cut.

"They called me back and asked if I was stillinterested in 'Survivorl" Dugan said. "l told them I

definitely was and then flew out to Los Angeles forfinalsl' The two-week audition in Los Angeles wasno ordinary interview.

"The auditions were tough. You had to sit lnfront of all the head executives from CBS and theyfired questions at you. Some would insult you tosee your reaction, others would ask you aboutyour personal lifel' ln many of the interviews, thecompetitors were told not to wear makeup so itcogq{l determined how good they would look on

cause she was true to herself in all the interviews, She and Erik Huffman, a fellow castaway (and fu-not just because she already knew how to gut a ture romantic interest), compared the idol she hadfish and survive in the wilderness. to the one that was still hanging at Fei Long. "Our

"l will never forget this one dayj'she said, idol matched the one that was still hanging so we

"0ne man asked,'What are you - Survivor saw that part. There was still a 1 percent chanceVersace?' l explained that all of the other girls that it could be real so l played it anyway. lt endedwere wearing workout clothes so I wanted to stand up being fake so it did not save me.The membersout, and even if I was all dolled up I was still an of Fei Long voted me off because they saw me as

athlete. I guess it workedl' the biggest threat from Zhan Hu, So I am happyDugan believes it was because of this attitude that I played well enough to even be found a

that executives cast her on the show. threatl'The executives must have Despite being voted off 21 days in, Dugan had

Dugan's younger sister Jenna, a student atUSC Upstate, had faith in her sister's survival skillsafter seeing her on air.

"When I first heard my sister was going to be on"Survivor" I was surprised and extremely excited.Everyone had their doubts about her becausewhen you first meet her she doesn't really seemlike someone that would be able to survive in suchha rsh envi ron ments;' Jen na said.'After watchin gher on the show though, she proved everyonewrong and showed just how tough she wasl'

And indeed she did prove people wrong and leftwith only a few regrets.

"l am happy with how I didj' Dugan said. "l hadan alliance with almost every member of my tribe. My biggest regret is not staying on long enough forthe family member visit. I really wanted my dad toget the chance to come and visit me in China."

Dugan certainly wasn't disappointed in herstrategy, as she was very comfortable as a mem-ber of the Zhan Hu tribe and didn't really have toworry about getting voted off. Unfoftunately for her,

the opposing Fei Long tribe had all of the largemales. According to Dugan, when it came to physi-cal challenges her tribe never really had a chance.

During the show, a member of the Fei Longtribe had found both hidden immunity idols thatgranted a castaway protection against being votedoff the show, Through editing, the producers of theshow made it look like Dugan had thought sheufound one of the immunity idols.

"l knew the idol I had was fakei'Dugan said.

so to the support ofher family and friends.

"My friends were re-me! I call my group of

friends "Team Blonde" (it's kind of an inside joke),and they are all coming with me to L.A. for thefinal episode and the afterparty. They were proudof me for doing so well in the physical challengesJ'

Dugan's sister wasn't surprised at her successon the show.

"She's a very determined person and I thinkthat's why she did so well on the show. When wewere growing up I always knew how tough shewas because when we got into fights, she coulddefinitely take me down j'.Jenna said.

Though she didn't win the $1 million prize, shedid manage to score a boyfriend - fellow castawayHuffman.

"0n the show, Erik and I were strictly friends. You did not want to form a relationship out therebecause it put a target on your back. You weremore Iikely to get voted off if the other people in

your tribe thought you were too close to someoneelse. Not to mention, we were too hungry to reallycare about relationshipsJ'

After the show, though, things have flared up.Huffman is a native South Carolinian and gradu-ated from Furman University. According to hisprofile on CBS.com, he is a part-time model and a

full-time musician for the band Florez, which hasperformed with big names like Sister Hazel, Betterthan Ezra and The Doobie Brothers.

Dugan's time on the show invigorated her home-
