Masthead The masthead is not really covered is this issue of ‘Q’, connoting this magazine might not to well known to a mass audience. Unlike ‘Rollingstone’ this magazine is not as iconic meaning some audiences have to rely on reading the tile to identify the publication Tagline The tagline used in this issue entices and lure audiences into purchasing the magazine as it states ‘Award Special Edition. This gives this issue a USP as it is different to other issues Main image/ focal point The media text employs the use of a dominant focal point denoting the star persona-Ed Sheeran. This will attract an wide range audiences due to the star’s level of fame. This cover get the audience attention due to the background fading in to highlight focal point. The star’s black attire will aid this as it is one of the few black element on the cover connoting it will stand out. The colour scheme chosen is definitely effective for these reasons. Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze This theory cannot be applied to this issue or many magazine cover that denote men as the focal point. This is due to the men not conventionally being objectified and sexualised to entice audiences, unlike woman Colour Scheme A coherent colour scheme has been used to make the magazine visually appealing. This colour scheme consists of red, white, beige and black. Red has been used effective as it stands out against the overs. Top and Bottom Strip This informs readers of the other content in the magazine. The copy creates enigma, because the audience will be curious to know what these story are. Creating this enigma will lure audience into purchasing the magazine Barcode and price These are conventions of many magazines. The two are conventionally located on the bottom of the magazine, so they do not take any attention from the feature, main coverline etc. Barcode Allows audiences to purchase the magazine. Price this can indicate the social class of the magazines readership, as it show how much they are will be pay for the media text. Main Coverline/Headline Sans serif of font has been used to reflect the star persona public image, which is slightly edgy and light hearted Plug This draws attention to other content in the magazine. This could be view as a marketing technique because to the audience . This is because the design layout of the issue covered in a lot of copy; this would connote a new ‘section’ had to be created due to the amount of content is the magazine.
