Three layers of Three layers of WebcastingWebcasting

1. True Streaming Video such as Mediasite with a dedicated Streaming server.

2. Progressive Streaming as in Youtube.com In this, a professor can record his/her own

video through a Webcam and then post without IT intervention vis-à-vis physical, on-site tech support

3. Live Streaming through MSN, WebEX, Video Feeds, Mediasite

1,2 are usually on-demand in webcasts, podcasts, screencasts, RSS Feeds using video sharing syndication sites such as brightcove.com, youtube.com, or screencast.com, or hosted on personal ftp.

In Public Speaking, all three were integrated.

In PS, we have no degeneration In PS, we have no degeneration in caliber of learning or in caliber of learning or

speechesspeeches::1) Fact: Students are delivering more

compelling and dynamic presentations than when I was in the classroom full time.

2) I have unprecedented one-on-one interaction with students albeit processing 106 students.

3) Each class convenes at regular class times through MSN audio/video conferencing while I am in NJ.

In PS, we have no degeneration In PS, we have no degeneration in caliber of learning or in caliber of learning or

speechesspeeches::4) Mediasite is employed by students for

Webcasting inspiring careers in News, Television Hosting

5) We have Online Powerpoint Training using Camtasia

6) My Mediasite Lectures were embraced by students and were efficacious for reinforcement retention rates.

Advantages for the Advantages for the StudentsStudents

Students receive more feedback faster in Hybrid Setting or Synchronous Setting, sending drafts for editing & critique with instant transfer and communications—better live simulation

Students who have jobs will find online courses more simpatico with schedules.

Highly motivated and interactive students retain and thrive the most, probably learning 2X the amount than that in a conventional setting.

Advantages for the Advantages for the StudentsStudents

Students can avail themselves of global news/resources readily, since they are already online

Professors have to be more accountable to each student as the turnover time for feedback/response is expected expeditiously in “internet” time.

Advantages for the Advantages for the ProfessorProfessor

Professors can wield the overload of enrollment by offering online alternatives

Through LMS (Angel), instructor can vigilantly track users activity on every item on Angel and filter delivery

Professors can interact more one-on-one with students on a more personal level, if preferred.

Student who are proactive and eager will be less taxing.

ProposalProposal

Convert 5 courses Over the Summer

Need Handouts, Pwpts, Syllabi from Professors

All timers for materials will be configured and set on Angel before the inception of fall term or by June 1st.

Recommended Style: Asynchronous courses with rudimentary interaction via email and basic Angel

Conducive Courses: One course each from Business, English, Accounting, Science, Sociology which mandate minimal interaction

Each Professor will be responsible for evaluation and feedback. Online center will facilitate this process.

Proposal

ExpensesExpenses

Increase in Bandwidth

Small Studio to Record Lectures

Establishing Online Division

Marketing and Advertising the Courses

Budget for Personnel, Equipment, Training for Speaking with Mediasite Technology and Speaking in front of the Camera

Profits:Profits:Charge: $$$$$$ per course X 20 students in any country per term for aggregate for five courses per yr= $$$$. This is just a low-ball figure for now.

Summer Courses Online will augment this amount.

Enrollment can continue to Increase without us stewing over the dearth of space and more faculty

Finally…Finally…

Online Instruction will not supplant conventional, classroom learning or employment; rather it will complement in myriad ways.

All of the hardware, logistics, software, and tech savvy are futile if the Instructor has lukewarm zeal for his/her course and the content is lackluster.

Online instruction can be tailored--due to manifold permutations/styles of web communications-- so each instructor is empowered not emasculated.
