Paul Wissmach Glass MFGS came out with a coated glass - it is similar to the iridescent coatings but notexactly the same. Therefor they are calling it luminous coating/ luminized/luminescent . It does createdifferent effects, depending on the way you fire it.

You can fire it:

● Coated side down onto a Kaiser Lee Board fiber shelf and the coating will intensify.

● Coated side down onto a kiln washed shelf or shelf paper and it will still look intense but different

● Coated side up and the luminescent coating will fade a bit on lighter colors, but does give the glassa beautiful sheen

● Cover the coated side with a piece of clear and the coating will fade away completely.

Working with all these options will offer you a nice new pallet of design possibilities that we will introduceto you in a series of projects. We have been fusing with the luminescent coated glass for over a year nowand as with any glass, you have to see it to believe it. Photos can not show you how the light reflectionsplay with the glass. I can only tell you, that our customers and students like it a lot. So why not start withthis Project Kit!

With this project I would like to introduceyou to the new Wissmach luminouscoated glass. I want you to experience foryourself the incredible shine after firing.Make sure all strips are placedluminescent side up. It will make yourearrings stand out beautifully.

Run Score

For a good strip it isbetter to score themall and then run thescores in the ordershown. Start with thecenter score, then thenext center and so onuntil you have all yourstrips, this way youavoid half brokenstrips that flare off tothe side.

Hot Tip1. Mark

2. Score

3. Clean

4. Run Score

This Hot Tip I created for myself, since I often forget to clean the strips before I run the scores. Mark allthe strips first, score the glass, clean the glass and then run them as shown in the picture below.

Working with Glass Strips as a design element!

Glass Strips are a wonderful design medium. You can create a variety of projects with a small amountof glass, like baskets, chimes, clocks and this earring stand.

I like glass strips 5/16” (8 mm) wide and I use thissize so often that I prepared a custom ruler tospeed up the glass marking process. I just took a5/16” (8 mm) wide glass strip to use as a measureand drew my marks on the back of a metal ruler. You can use a piece of paper or cardboard, also.

This type of project involves layering of pieces without a bottomglass piece to hold everything in place. Therefore I like to“construct” them on a piece of shelf paper. It only needs to bea tiny bit bigger than the final set up (8” x 10”). Start by placingdown one solid piece of 8” x 2” glass and then the horizontalpieces in a diagonal for a more dynamic look. Now place thethe vertical strips. This will attach the horizontal glass strips tothe base and it will create the small openings as well. The basewill rest in the acrylic display stands.

white luminescentglass COE 96(Wissmach)

Even if you don’t usually use COE 96 glass, you can goahead and order this kit, since you will get all the glassyou need and a bit extra (just in case you need morestrips). To let the earrings play the main show, I do notrecommend embellishing the stand with any additionalglass.
