THANK YOU AND WELCOME TO THE TEAM! As a Confident Girls community fundraiser you are helping the Netball Foundation make
a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged girls across Australia.
This year we’re aiming to raise $250,000 towards community netball programs such as our
Inclusion NetSetGO program and community introductory programs – giving more than
5,000 young girls a chance that they wouldn’t ordinarily have to play netball and thrive,
both on and off the court.
We’re proud of that and you should be too. What’s more, fundraising for Confident Girls is fun and every fundraiser goes into the draw to win some great prizes from the Australian
Netball Diamonds.
Let’s get started!

ABOUT CONFIDENT GIRLSConfident Girls is the main grass roots campaign of the Netball Foundation – the fundraising arm of Netball Australia and
partner of the Australian Netball Diamonds team.
We know that sport is a powerful tool in empowering girls to be happy and healthy. Every week, millions of girls around
Australia walk off the netball court with the confidence that comes from being part of a team, enjoying the bond of a shared
experience and the benefits of regular exercise. They also build the kind of resilience that is learnt from winning and losing,
and taking the good with the bad.
But for many reasons, not all girls have the chance to participate. In Australia, more than 600,000 children live below the
poverty line and don’t have the opportunity to be part of a sporting team. Many families cannot afford to pay sport fees, buy
a uniform and shoes to play in, or get transport to sporting events. Some schools don’t offer sports activities or have the
money to buy equipment. And unfortunately, many girls lack the self-confidence to get involved or their cultural background
doesn’t encourage them to be physically active.
In 2016 Confident Girls is aiming to raise $250,000 to give disadvantaged girls the opportunity to play netball. More
importantly, we’re giving girls a chance to have fun, make friends and be healthy, confident and resilient. So by supporting
Confident Girls, you are giving more girls the chance to be the best they can, on and off the court.

Netball promotes teamwork
in young students learning
by distance
45 students from Northern Territory’s
distance education school Katherine
School of the Air, played netball
through Inclusion NetSetGO for the
first time in 2015.
Students were visited by the school’s
Netball Ambassador Leanne Bugg as
part of their Health and P.E program,
and participated in the program’s
activities in small groups of three
to four.
The Inclusion NetSetGO program was
also undertaken during the four contact
events throughout the year, when all
students come together in town.
“The kids absolutely love netball,”
Bugg said.
“Many of them don’t get to play team
sports in our context very often. So to
be able to be a part of a team and play
sport that is so inclusive, we are able to
build on their foundation skills.”
Bugg said the main reason the school
wanted to implement netball was to
allow students to explore the value
of teamwork and working together to
achieve something.
“In our context it was important to
have that opportunity,” Bugg said.
“It was really good because netball is
a game that can be adjusted to include
the real younger students with basic
ball skills, the pre-schoolers, right up
until the older ones, who were keen
for a game.”
Engaged students at Old
Guildford Public School
Old Guildford Public School has
more than 400 students, including
98 per cent students from non-English
speaking backgrounds. The School’s
underlying philosophy is that happy,
engaged students are more likely to
achieve their full potential. So when
the opportunity to have an Inclusion
NetSetGO program at the school came
up, they grabbed it with both hands.
"... it boosted their
physical and mental
health, provided
fun and a sense
of belonging."
The netball program benefited the
school’s culturally and linguistically
diverse students, breaking down
language and cultural barriers. As the
school’s children discovered a love
for the sport through the Inclusion
NetSetGO program, it boosted their
physical and mental health, provided
fun and a sense of belonging.
Netball helps attendance at
Wugularr School
Netball is helping the children at
Wugularr School, about 120 kilometres
south-east of Katherine, thrive thanks
to teacher Sarah Mullucks. Teaching in
a multi-year classroom of 20 upper-
primary children, in a school with 110
students, Sarah introduced netball
to a place where children knew
only basketball and football. School
attendance rates have increased for the
students playing in the netball team,
as well as for the younger students.
Students in the lower primary classes
see the enjoyment and success of
the netball team and are keen to be
involved themselves when they are
in the upper primary class. Sarah
has also seen improvement in the
classroom with greater cooperation
and teamwork, as well as increased
confidence and leadership in the girls.
The Wugularr team play in the Katherine
Netball Association and two of the
Wugularr girls have played at the NT
Championships in the Katherine Netball
Association representative team.
The Katherine Netball Association
competition has teams with both
indigenous and non-indigenous players,
all in the one integrated competition
and Sarah Mullucks has been pivotal
in the development of the inclusive
ethos and culture at Katherine Netball
Association.
Sarah and the netball team have had
an impact on both their community at
Wugularr, as well as in Katherine and at
Katherine Netball Association.

MEET SOME OF OUR FUNDRAISERS
The Confident Girls campaign has inspired some fantastic fundraising efforts in the netball community.
Meet some of our 2015 best fundraisers:
Arena Jetz gather community
to support Confident Girls
Arena JETZ Netball Club in Melbourne’s
South East donated $1 for every
registered player in their teams and
raised more than $500 by donating the
proceeds of a sausage sizzle and cake
stall to the Confident Girls campaign.
President Kerryn Weickhardt said,
“you develop lifelong friendships
through netball and it’s also a great
network for women”.
Australian Netball Diamonds coach
Lisa Alexander said success stories like
Arena JETZ makes grass roots netball
so strong.
“you develop lifelong
friendships through
netball and it’s also
a great network for
women”.
“It’s fantastic to see local clubs
like Arena JETZ getting behind the
Confident Girls and giving their
time to raise funds to allow their
fellow netballers in disadvantaged
communities to play and participate
in the game that we all adore.”
Alexander said.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of the
Australian community and netballers,
like those involved with running
Arena JETZ, are special indeed.”
Young netballers unite for
Confident Girls
Teenager Caitlin Ardill and her netball
club St Bernadette’s in New South
Wales raised $501.50 for the Confident
Girls campaign.
After seeing the campaign advertised
on Facebook, 13-year-old Caitlin
rallied her teammates and raised
money through a combination of
online donations and a raffle at the St
Bernadette’s junior presentation night.
“I wanted to raise
money because I met
a lot of my friends
through netball..."
Generous organisations, community
members and Caitlin’s teammates all
donated items to be raffled on the
night, creating a total of three prize
packs with items including a pink game
day pack, a signed and framed NSW
Swifts poster and netballs.
“I wanted to raise money because I
met a lot of my friends through netball
and I wanted to give other girls the
opportunity to meet new people and
play netball too,” fundraiser Caitlin
Ardill said.
“I gained a lot from netball so it’s nice
to give it back to other people.”
Netball World Cup inspires
Northern Suburbs Netball
Association
The Northern Suburbs Netball
Association in New South Wales raised
$2,950 for the Netball Foundation
through the Confident Girls campaign.
After hearing about the Foundation
through the Netball World Cup, the
Northern Suburbs Netball Association
thought it was a great opportunity
to align with the international
tournament and raise money for
netball.
Through generous donations from
sponsors and the local netball
community, the Northern Suburbs
Netball Association held an online
auction that included items such as
two Netball World Cup Gold Medal
Match tickets, coaching sessions and
items from local businesses.
“We rallied around and within 10 hours
we had over 12–15 items to auction on
the day,” Association Treasurer Renee
Bates said.
“People should concentrate on the
Netball Foundation so they understand
what netball is about, and really not
take for granted the opportunities that
they have at their local netball club.”

Up close and personal
Taryn Campbell was one of the Netball
Foundation’s lucky donor winners,
winning four court-side tickets and a
behind the scene tour on day six of
Netball World Cup Sydney 2015.
Being a lover of all things netball, Taryn
had no hesitation in donating to the
Netball Foundation.
“Netball teaches young girls team
work, leadership and gets them
outside. It teaches responsibility and
accountability, plus it helps them learn
how to be a good winner and a good
loser,” she said.
“Netball helps people come together
to work towards a common goal.”
Taryn wanted to be involved in the
Netball Foundation as she wanted to
give back to young girls.
“We often forget that young girls really
value guidance from older females
and I think helping disadvantaged girls,
and giving them a life skill is really
important to help shape their future.”
Currently travelling, Taryn has
become very aware of the poverty
and disadvantage that can exist,
highlighting how much we sometimes
take for granted being out on a
beautiful netball court.
“I am currently in Sri Lanka where
everyone plays cricket. I went past a
school where the kids were playing
cricket with a plank of wood. Not even
a real bat and were having a great time.
It made me really appreciate how lucky
we are to have access to simple things
like a ball and a post,” she said.
“Netball is a really fun team sport where
you can make friends for life!”
In donating to the Netball Foundation, Taryn was
able to take her friends, Simone, Cindy and Mandy
on an amazing experience.
PRICELESS EXPERIENCESA mother-daughter date
to remember
By adding on a donation to tickets
purchased to the Netball World
Cup SYDNEY 2015 through Ticketek,
Justine Whiting was another one
of the Netball Foundation’s lucky
donor winners.
Not having much knowledge of the
Netball Foundation, Justine simply
thought donating was the right thing
to do.
Justine’s excited 10 year old daughter
Emily was able to present the match
ball at the start of the game, handing
it to Diamonds centre Kim Ravaillion.
At the end of the game, Emily was
given the match ball to keep.
“Coming back to our seats she had the
hugest smile on her face. It was the
happiest I’ve ever seen her.”
“She was excited to see the best
players, especially Laura Geitz. Just
the way they move around the court,
they are amazing athletes.”
Emily loves playing netball because
she loves playing with her friends and
this is why Justine thinks the Netball
Foundation is so important.
“The Netball Foundation is great
because it is looking after girls at both
ends of the spectrum. I think it is
really important to support both
of them.”
Justine loves seeing Emily thrive
through her netball.
“We love her developing through a
team sport and keeping fit while she
is enjoying herself,” she said.
Tossing happy
Simply by supporting the Confident
Girls campaign on social media,
Dianne Sylvester won two tickets to the
Australian Netball Diamonds game on
day five of the 2015 Netball World Cup
in Sydney.
She was able to toss the coin and meet
Diamonds captain Laura Geitz and
England captain Geva Mentor.
“I love, love, loved the opportunity
to toss the coin and be a part of the
Diamonds match,” she said.
“I watch crazy amounts of netball
and know all the players, so it was
really special.”
Dianne brought her husband Jason
along to watch the game, enjoying every
minute being part of the Diamonds
match.
“I love, love, loved the
opportunity to toss the
coin and be a part of the
Diamonds match,”
Dianne believes that the Netball
Foundation is a great way to get girls
involved in the game that she loves.
“I absolutely love netball, and most sport
in general, and hope that more kids can
get outside, learn to enjoy exercise and
hopefully get involved in a team sport
with equal opportunity,” she said.

WHAT IS THE NETBALL FOUNDATION?
Netball is the number one sport played by women and girls
in Australia. As the representative body, Netball Australia
has a strategic aspiration to impact the social political,
economic, education and health status of its community.
To help in achieving this aspiration, Netball Australia
launched the Netball Foundation to help women and girls
achieve their full potential, both on and off the netball court.
We see netball as the tool, and the end game as helping
women and girls to thrive.
Tax deductibility and Deductible Gift Recipient status
is provided through a partnership with the Australian
Sports Foundation.
How is the Netball Foundation governed?
The Netball Foundation was established in March 2015.
Its powers, duties and terms of reference where delegated
to it by the Netball Australia Board pursuant to Clause 34
of the Netball Australia Constitution. The Netball Australia
Board formally approves the composition of the Netball
Foundation Panel.
The Netball Foundation Panel provides financial oversight,
compliance, grant making and advice to the Netball Australia
Board. An update on the Netball Foundation’s activities is
provided at each Netball Australia Board meeting.
The Netball Foundation Panel is required to meet at least
three times a year; and at least once a year, the Chief
Executive of the Netball Foundation meets with the Netball
Australia Audit and Risk Committee.
The Netball Foundation Panel has its performance assessed
at least once in each financial year, as prescribed by the
Netball Australia Board.
Netball Foundation Panel members are not remunerated.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
Set up a fundraising page
It’s easy and fun to support Confident Girls. One of the best
ways is to reach out to your community by setting up a
fundraising page at www.confidentgirls.com.au and asking
friends, family and colleagues to donate.
Register and promote your event
Once you’ve decided on an activity (see some of our
suggestions here), register your event and create an online
fundraising page. Don’t forget to upload a photo or logo so
that everyone can easily recognise your fundraising page. It’s
a good idea to include some of the reasons you got involved
and why Confident Girls has inspired you to start fundraising.
For more information on how to get the best results out of
your registration, visit www.confidentgirls.com.au.
Or simply make a donation
If you want to be involved in Confident Girls but aren’t able
to set up an event, you can always donate directly by visiting
www.confidentgirls.com.au.
HOW MUCH WORK IS INVOLVED?
That’s entirely up to you! Being a Confident Girls fundraiser
can be as little or as much work as you want it to be.
The easiest way to donate is by making a contribution
directly to the Confident Girls campaign on our website at
www.confidentgirls.com.au.
If you plan to reach out to your community, you can set up a
fundraising page and ask your friends, family and colleagues
to donate. Register at www.confidentgirls.com.au and
promote through your social media pages.
If you are holding an event at your local netball association,
club or school, there will be some work in the lead up to the
event and on the day. It’s important to let everyone know
when and where your fundraising event is happening, why
you are raising money, and what you hope to achieve.
To help you out, we’ve created some great resources that
make it easy to promote your event and give you all the tools
you need for websites, newsletters, social media and more at
www.confidentgirls.com.au
WHERE WILL MY DONATION GO?
The money raised goes to helping girls who can’t play netball,
(for lots of different reasons), have the chance to play, have
fun and make friends.
100% of donated funds received by Confident Girls go
towards funding netball programs, equipment and coaching
in disadvantaged communities across Australia through our
Inclusion NetSetGO program and community programs.
Here’s some of the ways your donation will help:
• $15 pays for a Participant pack, including a take-home
netball.
• $25 pays for a disadvantaged girl to try netball at an
Inclusion NetSetGO clinic.
• $50 pays for a coordinator to complete the Foundation
Coaching Course.

groups are unable to nominate where funds are directed.
The Netball Foundation works closely with state and
territory Netball Australia Member Organisations to ensure
a proportion of funds raised in their state or territory is
returned to benefit disadvantaged girls in their communities.
WHO DECIDES WHERE CONFIDENT GIRLS
FUNDS ARE INVESTED?
The Netball Foundation Panel uses a rigorous process to
ensure funds reach disadvantaged girls. This includes grant
making, transparency and accountability.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY DONATION HAS
MADE A DIFFERENCE?
Transparency is important to the Netball Foundation. We
report back to everyone who donates on how the money
raised from Confident Girls has supported disadvantaged
girls including how we have used your money and what
impact it has achieved.
We publish a Donors Report annually, along with ongoing
updates and stories throughout the year. The 2015
Inaugural Donors Report can be downloaded at www.
netballfoundation.com.au
HOW MUCH OF MY DONATION GOES ON
ADMINISTRATION COSTS?
The Netball Foundation is fully funded by Netball Australia
so no funds donated to Confident Girls will be used on
administration or fundraising costs.
The Australian Sports Foundation retains between 5-8%
depending on how the donation is made. For example, 5%
online donation via electronic funds transfer (EFT), 6% online
donation using Visa or MasterCard, 7% online donation using
American Express, 8% Manual donation by American Express.

ARE THERE INCENTIVES TO FUNDRAISE OR
DONATE?
Yes. Apart from helping disadvantaged girls, there’s a chance
for fundraisers to win great prizes including:
• Tossing the coin at an international netball test match;
• Delivering the match ball at an international netball test
match and getting to keep the ball after the game;
• Taking a behind-the-scenes tour at an international
netball test match;
• Being part of a Coaching Clinic with Diamonds Coach,
Lisa Alexander;
• Attending motivational talks with Australian Netball
Diamonds;
• Receiving signed Diamonds dresses and balls; or
• Enjoying family tickets to 2016 International test
matches.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY ‘DISADVANTAGED
COMMUNITIES’ AND ‘DISADVANTAGED GIRLS’?
The Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) is a measure
of geographically concentrated disadvantage and helps the
Netball Foundation Panel determine where Confident Girls
funds are invested. The SEIFA was created by the Australian
Bureau of Statistics and uses information such as low
income, low education and occupational status as markers
of disadvantage.
The Netball Foundation uses this information to identify
where we can help girls that are unable to participate in
sporting activities due to where they live, the schools they
attend, a lack of financial support and a number of other
factors that unfortunately stop them from joining in on the
fun of playing netball. Communities with no existing
netball programs are prioritised.
HOW DO I APPLY TO THE NETBALL
FOUNDATION FOR SUPPORT?
The Netball Foundation Panel follows a grant making policy
which aims to be strategic and pro-active to achieve our
vision of helping women and girls achieve their full potential
both on and off the netball court. We work closely with
Netball Australia state and territory member organisations
and community partners in allocating support. As a result,
other than in exceptional circumstances, the Foundation
does not usually consider unsolicited submissions and we
regret that we are unable to respond to individual requests
for support.
WHAT IS INCLUSION NETSETGO?
Inclusion NetSetGO introduces girls with disability or from
disadvantaged, underprivileged, marginalised, Indigenous,
and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds to
netball. Developed as a modified program for juniors,
Inclusion NetSetGO can be adapted to suit the specific needs
and abilities of diverse groups.
Inclusion NetSetGO is offered in two formats:
1. Inclusion NetSetGO Program – an 8 to 10 week
program, which includes NetSetGO resources (session
plans, coordinator manual), a NetSetGO Equipment Kit
or Ball Kit, and an item for all participants; and
2. Inclusion NetSetGO Clinics – a “come and try” exposure
program run for a maximum of four weeks, which
include NetSetGO resources (session plans, coordinator
manual) and an item for all participants.
WHAT IS THE AUSTRALIAN SPORTS
FOUNDATION?
The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) was established by
the Australian Government in 1986, after the Australian
Sports Commission Act 1985 called for the creation of a
company to support the development of sport in Australia.

and is located on the Australian Institute of Sport campus
in Canberra. The ASF is a non-profit company limited by
