FUNCTIONAL ROLES OF PARKS AND OPEN SPACES

FUNCTIONAL ROLES OF PARKS AND OPEN SPACESAREA 11 (DISTRICT 6) OF QUEZON CITY

INTRODUCTIONParks and open space refers to land that has been reserved for the purpose of formal and informal sport and recreation, preservation of natural environments, provision of green space and/or urban storm water management. Parks and open space vary in size, form and the functions that they perform. A strategic approach is needed in assessing the needs of a community and planning an open space network. Public open space is usually categorized into a hierarchy of neighborhood, district and regional open space and can be used for either passive or active recreation.

RATIONALEThis activity focus in evaluating and valuing the roles P/OS of our chosen urban area within the range and scale of urban design (UDDA). This also identifies and considers existing P/OS conditions, assess the need for it, and anticipate its future physical requirements in the UDDA. Likewise, potential P/OS location and physical development shall have to be presented based on urban design standards for parks and open spaces provisions.

INDICATED IN THE MAP OUR CHOSEN VICINITY BELONGS TO METRO MANILA. OUT OF THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION (NCR) MAP, WE HAVE DECIDED TO CHOOSE DISTRICT 6, BECAUSE BARANGAYS IN DISTRICT 6 ARE CLOSELY INTERCONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER.

ESTABLISHMENTS NEAR DISTRICT 6

AS GIVEN IN THE ILLUSTRATION, DISTRICT 6 OF QUEZON CITY IS ABUNDANT IN R-3 WHICH IS THE HIGH DENSITY RESIDENTIAL ZONE, WHICH CAN BE FOUND AT APOLONIO SAMSON; I-2 WHICH IS MEDIUM IMMERSLY INDUSTRIAL ZONE IS THE NEXT ABUNDANT IN DISTRICT 6, THE LEAST FOUND IN DISTRICT 6 IS THE PARKS.

OBJECTIVESTo analyze and explore the vicinity of District VI of Quezon City, examine its environment, ambience, facilities, function and its design/planning elements in relation to parks and open space and be able to understand and create a better development to improve the quality of park for its usersTo formulate an appropriate UD program for the P/OS in the UDDA based on the information and analysis prepared. To enhance our knowledge on how we will design a project considering the design, site planning and other parameters needed for the project that we can be used as our edge in our fieldASSESSMENT AND ANALYSIS (ANECDOTAL, QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE)The information given through the data gathering is clearly distinguished through the interview, and observation. We have formulated conclusions based on the data given to us and from the data we sought in the internet and from the guidelines we have gathered.
