BAMURRU PLAINS TO JABIRU

A delicious full breakfast at the lodge will begin at 6:30am (with plenty of coffee to help ease the early start!)

before your group is transferred to Bamurru’s airstrip for an incredible scenic 30 minute flight to Jabiru.

Your air-conditioned vehicle will be waiting in Jabiru with a Bamurru Plains guide who will drive you into the

northern part of Kakadu and one of the park’s best Aboriginal rock art sites, Ubirr Rock.

Kakadu National Park covers an extraordinary 20,000-square-kilometres and has been inhabited by Aboriginal

people continuously for more than 50,000 years! The park is one of very few places on the World Heritage list

that has been recognised for both its cultural and natural values and with some of the world’s oldest rock art,

one fifth of Australia’s mammal species and one third of all Australia’s birds, it’s easy to see why!

UBIRR ROCK

A 45 minute drive through Kakadu’s beautiful floodplain and stone country leads to Ubirr Rock, with some of

Kakadu’s best Aboriginal rock art galleries. The reason for such a plethora of fantastic art is the landscape of

the region, with huge rocky escarpments throughout which provided shelter for the communities living in

Kakadu. Ubirr provides examples of all four historical periods—pre-estuarine, estuarine, freshwater and

contact—which could date back as far as 50,000 years!

A 1.5km walk will take you through two rock art galleries before climbing to the top of the rock where you

will be rewarded with incredible 360° views out over the Nadab floodplain. The climb is relatively easy-going

and there will be plenty of time to stop and take photographs and learn about the history of the Aboriginal

people responsible for the beautiful art.

Following the walk, enjoy a wild bush picnic in a shady spot with tasty fare from Bamurru Plains.

GULUYAMBI RIVER CRUISE

Join a Guluyambi River Cruise, an Indigenous tourism enterprise, for an afternoon slowly meandering down

the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide the group of up to 24 guests with an insight into their

culture, local mythology, the river’s abundant food chain, traditional uses for many plants and animals as well

as bush survival skills.

Count the crocodiles lining the banks of the river and spot the abundant birdlife of Kakadu before

disembarking briefly in Arnhem Land where your guide will demonstrate the use of traditional hunting and

gathering tools. With only a handful of operators allowed access into Arnhem Land, this will be a truly unique

experience!
