Notification from Fort Drum Directorate of Emergency Services:

The North Country Spouses’ Club (NCSC) is now accepting

scholarship applications

The applications are due March 30, 2013.

The following people are eligible for scholarships: spouses

and children of active duty, reserve, or retired active duty

military (officer or enlisted) that will be enrolled in a full

or part-time accredited degree program during the up-

coming 2013-2014 academic year (fall & spring terms).

Applicants or their military sponsors must reside in the

Fort Drum area or associated communities.

Individuals who will be attending a service academy or

who accept any other full scholarship are not eligible to

apply for this scholarship.

Scholarships are based on scholastic merit and commu-

nity involvement. Race, color, sex, national origin, or fi-

nancial need will not influence the selection.

Applications are available through local schools, NCSC

Facebook page, and the NCSC website NorthCoun-

trySpousesClub.weebly.com.

with any questions or concerns.

Effective 28 January 13, the temporary gate on Nash Blvd and NYS Route 26, which is open from 0530-

0730, will be restricted to in-bound traffic only and will not be used to access WSAAF from the canton-

ment area. This will remain in effect until 15 Apr 13. This is being done out of safety concerns for the se-

curity personnel conducting access control operations. Accumulated snow and ice makes the narrow

roadway even narrower and there is no way to adequately protect the security personnel who have to

stand in the roadway. Two way traffic increases the possible risk of injury or worse due to slippery roads.

Personnel are not authorized to turn onto Nash Blvd and then conduct a U-turn to cross over NYS Route

26 and circumvent the traffic control device. Jersey barriers will be placed on the roadway of Nash Blvd

to prevent this from occurring. Once you are on Nash Blvd you will be required to enter Ft Drum and

then proceed to Gas Alley ACP to exit.

Reminder this gate is only authorized for use by personnel with a Government issued ID (CAC, DD form

2, DD Form 1173). RAPIDGate IDs or drivers licenses are not authorized identification for access

through this gate.

MEDDAC provide updated clinic coverage plans for Martin

Luther King Jr. training and federal holidays

U.S. Army Medical Department Activity officials have announced clinic coverage plans for the Mar-

tin Luther King Jr. federal and training holidays, Jan. 21 and Jan. 22, respectively.

On the federal holiday, Monday, Jan. 21, MEDDAC facilities are closed with the exception of the Am-

bulance Section

On the training holiday, Tuesday, Jan. 22, MEDDAC facilities will be open with reduced staffing,

with the exception of the Conner Troop Medical Clinic, which will be closed for patient care.

Patients with urgent care needs are asked to call (315) 772-2778.

For medical emergencies, please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department for

treatment.

Pharmacy sends reminder on ID policy for prescriptions

Guthrie Pharmacy has an identification policy in place for picking up prescriptions.

* Beneficiaries who pick up prescriptions or over-the-counter medications for themselves MUST

have their military ID card. A driver's license and other forms of identification are not accepted.

* If someone other than the patient is picking up the medication, the individual who is receiving the

prescriptions from the pharmacy MUST have either the patient's actual military ID card or a photo-

copy of the military ID card. Driver's licenses, text messages of ID cards and telephone calls from the

patient are NOT accepted.

Note: If the military ID card of the patient has been lost or destroyed, that individual can receive pa-

perwork from the Medical Records department which will give the Pharmacy department authoriza-

tion to dispense medications without the actual ID card. This is the only exception to the ID card pol-

icy. For more information, call Sgt. 1st Class Maria Waiters at 772-9513.

Report security issues to Fort Drum tip line

Fort Drum’s Directorate of Emergency Services encourages everyone to contribute to community

security by reporting suspicious behavior or activities to 774-8477 (TIPS).

Callers to the anonymous tip line should report odd behaviors and activities, such as people measur-

ing or asking for blueprints of important buildings; strangers asking about security protocols; a

briefcase, suitcase, backpack or package left behind; vehicles left unattended in front of buildings;

and chemical smells or fumes coming from a residence or business. The effort is part of iWatch
